YouTube app coming 'soon' to Nintendo Switch 2

YouTube has confirmed it is working with Nintendo to bring its video streaming app to the Switch 2 "soon," addressing one of the new console's notable omissions at launch.
The announcement came via the official TeamYouTube account on X after users reported that the original Switch's YouTube app is incompatible with Nintendo's latest handheld. When Switch 2 owners attempt to open the transferred app, they receive an error message stating the software cannot start.
"We're working with Nintendo to make YouTube available on the Switch 2 soon," the company posted in response to user inquiries. No specific timeline or additional details were provided about whether YouTube will update the existing app or create a Switch 2-specific version.
The YouTube compatibility issue extends beyond a single app. Nintendo has previously confirmed that several popular streaming services from the original Switch don't work on the Switch 2, including Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Japan-based platforms Niconico and Abema. None of these services have announced updates for the new console.
The situation mirrors the original Switch's launch experience, when YouTube took over a year and a half to arrive on the platform. The app finally debuted on the Switch eShop in November 2018, well after the console's March 2017 release.
Released on June 5, the Switch 2 features several hardware improvements over its predecessor, including a larger screen, magnetic Joy-Con controllers, and a more powerful custom Nvidia processor. While the console maintains backward compatibility with most Switch games and apps, streaming services appear to require specific updates to function properly on the new hardware.

The reports suggested that VF 6 will be measured 4,241mm in length, 1,834mm in width, and 1,580mm in height, while the wheelbase will be 2,730mm with the ground clearance of 190mm. Inside the cabin, the company continue to offer a luxury treatment from every corner. It sports yet uncluttered appeal, which will make it look clean and classy. The dual-tone colour scheme with low-set dashboard and flat-bottomed 3-spoke multi-functional steering wheel will be there to level up the cabin game. The EV will come with a 12.9-inch infotainment touchscreen, which will be positioned atop the dashboard. Getty Argues Its Landmark UK Copyright Case Does Not Threaten AI
London: Getty Images' landmark copyright lawsuit against artificial intelligence company Stability AI began at London's High Court on Monday, with Getty rejecting Stability AI's contention the case posed a threat to the generative AI industry. Seattle-based Getty, which produces editorial content and creative stock images and video, accuses Stability AI of using its images to "train" its Stable Diffusion system, which can generate images from text inputs. Getty, which is bringing a parallel lawsuit against Stability AI in the United States, says Stability AI unlawfully scraped millions of images from its websites and used them to train and develop Stable Diffusion. Stability AI - which has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in funding and in March announced investment by the world's largest advertising company, WPP - is fighting the case and denies infringing any of Getty's rights. Before the trial began on Monday, Stability AI's spokesperson said "the wider dispute is about technological innovation and freedom of ideas". "Artists using our tools are producing works built upon collective human knowledge, which is at the core of fair use and freedom of expression," the spokesperson said. In court filings, Stability AI lawyer Hugo Cuddigan said Getty's lawsuit posed "an overt threat to Stability's whole business and the wider generative AI industry". Getty's lawyers said that argument was incorrect and their case was about upholding intellectual property rights. "It is not a battle between creatives and technology, where a win for Getty Images means the end of AI," Getty's lawyer Lindsay Lane told the court. She added: "The two industries can exist in synergistic harmony because copyright works and database rights are critical to the advancement and success of AI ... the problem is when AI companies such as Stability want to use those works without payment." WIDER IMPACT Getty's case is one of several lawsuits brought in Britain, the U.S. and elsewhere over the use of copyright-protected material to train AI models, after ChatGPT and other AI tools became widely available more than two years ago. Creative industries are grappling with the legal and ethical implications of AI models that can produce their own work after being trained on existing material. Prominent figures including Elton John have called for greater protections for artists. Lawyers say Getty's case will have a major impact on the law, as well as potentially informing government policy on copyright protections relating to AI. "Legally, we're in uncharted territory. This case will be pivotal in setting the boundaries of the monopoly granted by UK copyright in the age of AI," Rebecca Newman, a lawyer at Addleshaw Goddard, who is not involved in the case, said. Cerys Wyn Davies, from the law firm Pinsent Masons, said the High Court's ruling "could have a major bearing on market practice and the UK's attractiveness as a jurisdiction for AI development".

Kaynes Semicon, L&T arm to acquire Fujitsu General's power modules business
Kaynes Semicon and L&T Semiconductor Technologies (LTSCT) are acquiring Japanese Fujitsu General 's power modules business for Rs 118.34 crore. Fujitsu will transfer the business to Larsen & Toubro's fabless chip company and related production facilities to Kaynes, which will in turn manufacture these products for LTSCT, the companies said. The transaction is expected to close on June 23, pending regulatory clearance under Japan's Foreign Exchange and Foreign Trade Act. 'The new OSAT facility being setup in Sanand, Gujarat, is launching its operations with a focus on the global power device packaging market,' Raghu Panicker, chief executive of Kaynes Semicon, told ET. Mysuru-based Kaynes is one of the production contractors for LTSCT. The LTSCT specialises in semiconductor product development, manufacturing, and sales. Kaynes is one of the four companies under the India Semiconductor Mission 1.0 building OSATs in the country. 'The partnership with AOS will cover core power devices like IGBTs, power modules and MOSFETs with volumes projected to reach nearly 670 million units annually, while the Fujitsu technology provides immediate capability for high-reliability automotive and industrial-grade power modules, adding a production capacity of approximately 0.6 million units per month,' he said. These moves position the company as a significant new player in the power electronics supply chain , Panicker said. By combining a foundational, high-volume customer with advanced packaging technology and immediate production capacity, the company is poised to meet the surging global demand for power semiconductors driven by the electric vehicles , renewable energy , and industrial automation sectors, he said. This establishes a vital new capability in India's domestic semiconductor ecosystem and addresses the global need for a more resilient and diverse manufacturing footprint for power devices. L&T has invested more than $300 million to create LTSCT. Fujitsu General, in a regulatory filing on Monday, announced the divestiture of its power module business operated by its consolidated subsidiary, Fujitsu General Electronics (FGEL). This transaction is expected to result in the recording of an extraordinary gain of approximately 2 billion yen (about $13.8 million) from the business transfer in the April-June 2025 quarter, it said. Reasons for the Divestiture FGEL's tech solutions division is involved in the development, manufacturing, and sale of electronic devices, as well as the manufacturing of information and communication equipment. The divestiture of the power module business is part of a broader portfolio transformation within the electronic device business, aimed at strengthening the Fujitsu General Group's business foundation, it said.
