Samsung details One UI 8 Watch health features, will open up a beta program soon

GSM Arena9 hours ago

Samsung is working on One UI 8 Watch, which will debut with the upcoming Galaxy Watch8 models in July. Older watches will receive it as an update after that. However, a limited number of Galaxy Watch owners can join the beta program this month and experience some of the new features.
Samsung is highlighting four health-focused features that are coming with the new update – they are aimed at improving your sleep, keeping an eye on your vascular system and helping you with your run training. One feature can monitor antioxidants (carotenoids), which promote healthy aging.
The Bedtime Guidance feature will suggest an optimal bedtime based on your lifestyle and sleep patterns. And it will ping you with reminders to encourage you to stick to it. The feature will continuously recalculate your bedtime based on your sleep over the last three days.
Related to that is the Vascular Load feature, which measures the stress on your vascular system during sleep. The watch will monitor your stats and combine those with other factors such as sleep, exercise and stress to help you live a healthier lifestyle and to develop healthy habits.
Speaking of exercise, the Running Coach can analyze your running performance after a 12 minute run and will give you a score from 1 to 10. Then it can calculate a detailed running plan for a 5K, 10K, half marathon and even full marathon, based on your level. On your subsequent runs it will deliver real-time guidance and will help you avoid injuries related to over-pacing.
Good sleep and exercise are great but not enough as bad habits can creep in and negatively impact your health. The Antioxidant Index uses its optical BioActive sensor to measure carotenoids stored in your skin in just 5 seconds. Carotenoids are antioxidants found in green and orange vegetables and fruit.
'Sleep remains a cornerstone of our approach to health, as it influences physical and mental well-being, social relationships and even work performance. Now, we envision our Galaxy Watch delivering holistic insights centered around sleep — insights that lead to meaningful changes in daily life. We believe this aligns with our vision of empowering you to lead healthier lives through proactive care and holistic health management,' said Dr. Hon Pak, Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Health Team at Samsung's Mobile eXperience division.

Hall-of-Fame leaker disseminates images of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 line

Last month we passed along renders of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic showing off a squircle design similar to last year's Galaxy Watch Ultra model. Today, famed leaker Evan Blass posted images showing the design of the Galaxy Watch 8, Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra (2025). All three timepieces seem to share a common look with each model featuring a squircle design. To accommodate the squircle design and a rotating bezel, the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic will feature thicker bezels than the other watches in the series. According to Blass, the three watches in the line will be named the Galaxy Watch 8 , Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025). The trio should be unveiled next month during the company's next Unpacked event which will include Sammy's new foldables for 2025. The One UI 8 Watch interface includes Wear OS 6 which will supposedly include better battery life, the new Material 3 Expressive design language, and a more modern look that flows better. It also will include dynamic color theming which takes the dominant color from your selected watch face and uses it to create colored accents that match throughout the timepiece's interface. But Samsung says that there will be a 10% improvement in battery life from Wear OS 5 to Wear OS 6. Image of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra (2025). | Image credit-Evan Blass Samsung currently owns a 9% share of the global smartwatch market according to Counterpoint Research. Those results put the South Korean manufacturer in third place worldwide after Apple and Huawei. The summer's Unpacked event is rumored to take place on July 13th in New York City. Last year's event was held on July 10th so the rumor mill might be right. There was a prototype Galaxy Watch 8 Classic already posted for sale on eBay. Model number SM-L505U features 64GB of internal storage with LTE support and a 46mm case. It was priced at $150 and was not sold.

Close-up photography could be getting a major upgrade with the Google Pixel 10

Referential image of a Google Pixel 9 Pro . | Image credit — PhoneArena The Google Pixel 10 is rumored to be getting a new feature aimed at improving macro photography. According to a new report, Google may use the phone's telephoto camera to take close-up shots, instead of relying only on the ultra-wide lens like in previous models. This technique is called tele-macro photography. It allows the phone to use the telephoto sensor to focus on close subjects, such as flowers or insects. The idea isn't entirely new, as Samsung used it briefly on the Galaxy Z Fold 4, but more smartphone makers have been returning to the idea in recent months. OPPO introduced it on the Find N5, and OnePlus has something similar on the upcoming OnePlus 13, even though it hasn't highlighted the feature. Google's approach appears to combine both the telephoto and ultrawide cameras for macro. Depending on how far you are from the subject, the Pixel 10 might automatically pick the better option. This could help avoid common issues in macro photography, such as shadows or blocked lighting when the camera is too close. The Google Pixel 9 Pro used the 48MP Ultrawide for Macro focus. | Image credit — Google Using the telephoto lens for macro also has another advantage. Telephoto sensors usually have better optics, which can result in clearer and more detailed images. Being able to stand a little farther away from the subject can make it easier to capture things like insects, without disturbing them or getting in the way of light. This new camera setup is one of several changes expected for the Pixel 10 . Although unconfirmed, it has been previously rumored that Google is planning to announce the Pixel 10 lineup on August 20, with full availability starting August 28. That's a week later than last year's Pixel 9 reveal, but the delay may allow all four Pixel 10 models to ship at the same time. The Pixel 10 will also reportedly bring a refreshed set of color options. The standard model may come in Ultra Blue, Limoncello, Iris, and Midnight. The Pro and Pro XL versions will offer Sterling Gray, Light Porcelain, Midnight, and Smoky Green. The Pro Fold may come in Sterling Gray and Smoky Green only. If this feature does arrive, it would give the Pixel 10 a useful tool without adding more sensors or raising the price. That makes it a smart move, helping the phone stand out with better image quality in everyday use.
