Ozzy Osbourne revealed his favourite ever song and it's not Black Sabbath hit
Ozzy Osbourne and his pioneering metal band Black Sabbath inspired hundreds of big-name musicians over decades of rock excellence.
Fans might expect a man with such talents and reputation to have impeccable music taste, but the one song Ozzy labelled his favourite song of all time might surprise you. Long before his death on Tuesday (July 22), Ozzy revealed the one song he favours above all others - and it's not a Black Sabbath tune.
Nor, indeed, is it one of his many excellent solo tracks. Perhaps even surprisingly still, despite being a self-professed Beatles lover, it's not even a song by the Fab Four.
Instead, Ozzy disclosed that his top choice is the spine-chilling 1967 masterpiece A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum. In a 2009 piece for NME's publication Inspired By Music - celebrities pick their favourite songs, Osbourne detailed why this track strikes such a profound chord with him.
"When I hear that haunting melody on the Hammond organ, I immediately become transfixed," he stated. Launched in 1967, A Whiter Shade of Pale became an immediate sensation, dominating the UK charts for six weeks.
It remains amongst the rare recordings to shift over 10 million copies and earned induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. For Ozzy, the track's eerie ambience distinguishes it - a characteristic that arguably echoes the shadowy elements within his own compositions.
Whilst Procol Harum claims the premier position, Ozzy's remaining beloved tracks demonstrate the breadth of his musical inspirations. During a 2004 chat with Rolling Stone, he unveiled his favourite songs from that period, providing insight into the tracks that influenced his existence and profession.
Leading the selection is A Day in the Life by The Beatles. "It takes me back to a magical time in my life," Ozzy remarked.
His admiration for The Beatles extends beyond this single track. He also selected Hey Jude ("Hands down, one of the greatest songs ever written") and Yesterday as two of his top picks.
He expressed awe at the simplicity of the latter's original title, remarking: "I would have loved to have heard the working-title version, Scrambled Eggs". John Lennon's 'Imagine' takes second place on Ozzy's list, with his admiration for the track being deep and constant. "This song will never get old for me," he declared.
Another McCartney hit, Live and Let Die, earns third place: "A f***ing great song. I love it!". The Pink Floyd classic Money stirs up vivid recollections from Ozzy's wilder years. "Reminds me of my LSD days. I'm glad I survived," he reminisced.
Mountain's Mississippi Queen also resonates deeply with Ozzy, bringing back memories of Black Sabbath's first US tour. "This one brings back memories of my very first U.S. tour with Black Sabbath," he shared.
Unsurprisingly, Led Zeppelin's Dazed and Confused made it onto his list, with Ozzy recalling the profound impact it had on him.
He said: "My world stood still the first time I heard this." The Animals' hit Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood has long been a favourite for Ozzy, who considers it to have "always [been] a favourite".
To complete his selection, the rock legend included Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, praising it heavily.
Ozzy said: "Great melody. Great lyrics. Great song. I love Elton John!".

Ozzy Osbourne's poignant wish after falling 'unconscious' at his and Sharon's wedding
Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne shared the one regret he had about his and Sharon Osbourne's wedding day, during what he described as his "crazy years" Ozzy Osbourne once expressed hopes of redoing his wedding night with Sharon Osbourne, after he was discovered unconscious following the ceremony. The Black Sabbath legend and Sharon, now 72, exchanged vows in July 1982 in Maui, Hawaii. Photographs from their special day show the couple looking utterly smitten as newlyweds, though their evening took a rather different turn. Speaking to The Big Issue, Ozzy said he was found "unconscious" in a corridor after saying "I do" to his bride. Filled with regret about that night, he confessed: "If I could live one day of my life over again it would be the day I got married to my wife Sharon. I was off my face and I didn't make it to the bedroom suite. "They found me face-down in the hotel corridor unconscious. I'd like to go back to that day and go to bed with my wife." Their nuptials occurred during a period when Ozzy, by his own acknowledgement, was "drinking a lot of booze and doing a lot of drugs and living the lifestyle". The metal icon admitted this behaviour was especially rampant throughout his "crazy years" spanning the 70s and 80s. Speaking in 2014, the singer said about turning over a new leaf, adding: "Now I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. But I'm definitely living on borrowed time." Fortunately, Ozzy managed to reaffirm his love to Sharon when they renewed their wedding vows in 2017. The singer revealed to Hello! Magazine at the time: "For me, this was actually our real wedding day. This is the one that I will remember." Ozzy first met Sharon through her father Don Arden, who was managing his band Black Sabbath. After being booted out of the group due to substance abuse issues, Sharon, a former X Factor judge, became his manager and supported him through his solo career. Just months after finalising his divorce from his first wife Thelma Riley, with whom he has three children; Elliot, 59, Louis, 50, and Jessica, 45, the couple tied the knot. Together, they had three more children; their eldest Aimee, 41, who opted to stay away from the limelight, and Jack, 39, and Kelly, 40, who gained fame on the family reality show The Osbournes, and have since carved out careers of their own. On July 22, Sharon and their children announced the heartbreaking death of Ozzy, who was 76. He was laid to rest in a private ceremony at his Buckinghamshire home, following a funeral procession in Birmingham. His cause of death has not yet been confirmed by the family, but it's known that Ozzy was battling multiple health issues before his passing. In 2020, he announced that he had been diagnosed with a rare form of Parkinson's called Parkin. He also suffered from neck and spinal problems following an ATV accident in 2003, which necessitated major spinal and neck surgeries. A fall at home in 2019 exacerbated those injuries, which required further surgery.

Jack Osbourne admits he 'doesn't have a great relationship' with sister Aimee
Jack Osbourne has opened up on his relationship with his rarely seen older sister Aimee following their father Ozzy's death. The Black Sabbath icon died aged 76 on July 22 after dealing with a myriad of health issues, including being diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. A funeral cortege took place in his beloved home city of Birmingham on July 30 before he was buried in Buckinghamshire, with celebrities including Sir Elton John, Yungblud, and Marilyn Manson in attendance. Ozzy's wife Sharon Osbourne, as well as their three children – Aimee, Kelly, and Jack – were also pictured paying their respects among fans in Birmingham, and at the private burial among loved ones. Aimee, 41, shunned a life in the spotlight, not appearing in his reality show The Osbournes alongside her parents and siblings. Speaking on the Disrespectfully podcast, Jack 39, said that he and musician Aimee were 'not close at all' as he shared an insight into their relationship. Talking about her decision not to appear in the MTV show, he said: 'Back then she really wanted to be a musician and the kind of musician she wanted to be was like a Fiona Apple, Mazzy Star, like this kind of obscure, mysterious, moody… 'And she deemed doing a show on MTV as low-hanging fruit. She was like, 'I'm not going to be seen riding coat-tails,' kind of thing, that's how she perceived it. 'Once the show was hugely successful, I think she was kind of like, 'Well I can't now come on because I don't want to be seen even more so as jumping on the bandwagon'. And she dug her heels in and wanted to be relatively private and obscure.' He went on to say they 'don't have a great relationship' as he opened up on the differences in their careers. 'I've never asked her outright, 'Do you regret it'' I think there must be a level of like, 'Hey, my life would have probably been different than what it is if I'd done that', so I don't know, I think I would feel like I would have regretted it,' he continued. Kelly, 40, previously said that she and her sister 'don't talk' after famously having a strained relationship over the years. 'We're just really different. She doesn't understand me and I don't understand her,' she said during an interview on the Armchair Expert podcast in 2021. A year prior, Aimee told New York's Q1043 Out of the Box how much she valued her privacy after growing up with a famous father. 'For me, I had grown up around having a pretty well-known dad anyway, and … I always really valued my privacy within that family,' she said. 'And for me personally, and for who I am, you know, as far as morally and also just to give myself a chance to actually develop into a human being as opposed to just being remembered for being a teenager, it didn't really line up with what I saw my future as.' She continued. 'It definitely worked great for the rest of my family, but for me, and who I am, I just knew it was never something that I would have been able to consider realistically.' More Trending Sharon, 72, however, said it broke her heart when her eldest child chose to move out of the family home at just 16. She explained on The Talk: 'I know that my eldest girl, Aimee, left home at 16 and she couldn't live in our house because we were filming and it drove her insane. 'She felt too that she didn't want to grow up on camera. She hated the idea — it was appalling to her. And so she left at 16 and I regret every day that she did.' Sharon added: 'She was happy, but it broke my heart when she moved.' Got a story? Over the years, Aimee hasn't been seen in public with her brother and sister. She is a singer who has released music under the moniker ARO since 2010. However, Aimee has shied away from the limelight around her parents. She is the eldest of the Ozzy and Sharon's kids but famously declined to appear on the family's MTV reality series The Osbournes in the early noughties. The show was an instant hit and propelled her parents and siblings into huge stardom. However, just weeks before his dad's death at the age of 76, Jack opened up about his relationship with Aimee, and said they were "not close at all". Appearing on the Disrespectfully podcast, Jack was quizzed on whether Aimee regretted not taking part in the family's reality series. He admitted: "I've never had the conversation with her, we're not close at all. "We don't have a great relationship, she'll be the first to tell you that, so it's no secret.
