Katy Perry Was Granted an Unexpected Win Amid This Surprsing Legal Battle With Ex Orlando Bloom
On August 1, a Los Angeles judge ruled that Bloom will not be required to testify in Perry's ongoing real estate battle — a small but strategic victory for the pop star's team as they head into the next phase of trial, per Us Weekly. The case centers around a $15 million Santa Barbara mansion Perry purchased in 2020 via her business manager Bernie Gudvi. The seller, 84-year-old veteran Carl Westcott, tried to rescind the deal just days later, claiming he was on painkillers following surgery and mentally unfit to sign.

Orlando Bloom's Ex-Wife Miranda Kerr Subtly Showed Whose Side She's on Amid His & Katy Perry's Breakup
Westcott's team had been pushing to depose Bloom, arguing he had relevant knowledge about the property's condition. But Perry's side called the request untimely. The judge agreed, noting the information could be obtained through other means. According to Rolling Stone, sources say Westcott's attorneys aren't backing down — but for now, Bloom's name is off the witness list.
It's a rare moment of momentum for Perry, whose side of this case has drawn intense scrutiny online. Critics have zeroed in on Westcott's age, health, and veteran status, questioning the optics of a mega-rich pop star acquiring property from a bedridden man with Huntington's disease. Even Real Housewives alum Kameron Westcott — Carl's daughter-in-law — publicly accused Perry of exploiting his condition, calling the singer's actions 'disgusting.'
Perry, who has faced similar controversy before — including a failed attempt to buy a Los Feliz convent — has stayed mostly silent. Her reps confirmed her split from Bloom just weeks before the August 1 hearing, saying the former couple are focused on co-parenting their 4-year-old daughter, Daisy. But timing hasn't done much to soften the headlines.
Whether or not Bloom testifies, his presence in the case lingers. So does the question of what — and who — this win ultimately costs.

Burt Reynolds' Ex Wife and ‘WKRP in Cincinnati' Star Loni Anderson Dead Days Before 80th Birthday
Burt Reynolds' ex wife and former WKRP in Cincinnati star Loni Anderson has died. She was 79. 'We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,' Anderson's family said in a statement to the Associated Press on Sunday, August 3, announcing her death. According to her longtime publicist, Cheryl J. Kagan, Anderson died at a Los Angeles hospital due to a 'prolonged' illness, the AP reported. Us Weekly has reached out to Anderson's rep for comment. Anderson was famously married to Burt from 1988 to 1994. The pair first met in 1981 on The Merv Griffin Show, when she was still married to actor Ross Bickell and Burt was involved with fellow actress Sally Field. The pair started dating a year later, and went on to star alongside one another in 1983's Stroker Ace. In 1988, during their wedding ceremony on Burt's sprawling 160-acre Florida ranch, the late actor presented his then-bride with a seven-carat 'canary yellow diamond surrounded by smaller white diamonds,' as previously reported by People. At the time, Anderson was 41 and Burt was 52. (Burt died in 2018 after suffering a heart attack. He was 82.) 'I think back to the beginning of our relationship, it was so, oh, gosh, tabloid,' she previously told the AP. 'We were just a spectacle all the time. And it was hard to have a relationship in that atmosphere. And somehow, we did it through many ups and downs.' Anderson went on to detail her drama-filled marriage and subsequent divorce in the 1995 autobiography 'My Life in High Heels,' telling the AP that year that 'if you're going to write about yourself, you have to do it warts and all.' 'You may not even tell the nicest things about yourself, because you're telling the truth,' she added at the time. Burt Reynolds Calls Sally Field the Love of His Life: 'I Miss Her Terribly' In addition to her high-profile relationship with the former Hollywood star, Anderson made headlines for her award-winning performance on the hit TV comedy WKRP in Cincinnati, for which she received two Emmy nominations. She also landed roles in Easy Street, A Letter to Three Wives, White Hot: The Mysterious Murder of Thelma Todd and co-starred in Lifetime's Ladies Of The 80s: A Divas Christmas alongside Linda Gray, Donna Mills, Morgan Fairchild and Nicollette Sheridan. 'I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of the wonderful Londi Anderson!' Fairchild wrote via X shortly after news of her passing broke. 'The sweetest, most gracious lady! I'm just devastated to hear this." Anderson is survived by her daughter Diedra, whom she shared with her ex-husband Bruce Hasselberg, her son Quinton, her fourth husband, Bob Flick, as well as her grandchildren and step-grandchildren. Sabrina Carpenter Celebrates the ‘Special Moments' That Followed ‘Emails I Can't Send'
Before Sabrina Carpenter was rightfully objectifying men and serving up espresso shots on last year's Short n' Sweet, she was working late writing Emails I Can't Send. The singer is celebrating the third anniversary of the album that served as the breakthrough before the actual breakthrough with some light reminiscing. '3 years of my dear emails,' Carpenter wrote on an Instagram Story. 'This album means so much to me and was the gateway to many special moments I couldn't see ahead. I will never take this chapter for granted and what it taught me and how much closer it brought me to each and every one of to those of you who sing along. I love you forever!' More from Rolling Stone The Sabrina Carpenter You Don't Know Watch Sabrina Carpenter Perform 'Hungry Like the Wolf' With Duran Duran at BST Hyde Park How Sabrina Carpenter Raised $1 Million for Charity To commemorate the occasion, Carpenter has made the deluxe version of the record, 2023's Emails I Can't Send Fwd, available on vinyl for the first time. Before 'Espresso,' 'Please Please Please,' and 'Taste' became the ultimate hit trifecta for Short n' Sweet, Carpenter offered glimpses into her pop potential with the fleeting hits 'Nonsense' and 'Feather' from Emails. The songs were her first to land on the Billboard Hot 100 and remain staples in her live show. And though it never reached those heights, the drama-fueled single 'Because I Liked a Boy' showed another side to her, as well. 'What that era taught me was to just trust myself, and trust that everything is going to work out the way it's supposed to, and trust that relationships are put into your life for a reason,' Carpenter said about Emails I Can't Send in her recent Rolling Stone cover story. 'You might not see that in the moment, but you see it later.' When asked how often she thinks about this era, Carpenter paused before responding: 'I don't think about it, ever.'
