Caitlin Clark will be in a 3-point contest for the first time in her pro career as the Indiana Fever guard will compete Friday night in the WNBA All-Star competition. She'll be joined by contest record holder Sabrina Ionescu who last entered the contest in 2023 and hit 25 of her 27 shots in the final round scoring 37 points. It was the most shots made in a 3-point contest in either the WNBA or NBA. The Liberty's star guard wanted to make sure she was completely healthy before officially entering the contest. She said she'll be trying to break her own mark.
Clark's management team said earlier this year when she turned down competing in some fashion at NBA All-Star weekend that the young star wanted her first 3-point contest to be in Indianapolis at the WNBA weekend.
Allisha Gray who made her own history last season winning the 3-point and Skills Challenge will try and defend her title in both competitions. She beat Jonquel Jones 22-21 to win the 3-point shootout. Gray beat Sophie Cunningham by 2 seconds to win the skills competition. The Atlanta Dream star received 110,000 from Aflac as part of a partnership with the WNBPA. The 3-point contest winner this year will get an extra 5,000 from Aflac. Gray also got 2,575 from the league for each of her two victories. Other participants in the 3-point contest are Washington rookie Sonia Citron and Los Angeles Kelsey Plum. The other players competing in the skills challenge will be New York's Natasha Cloud Seattle's Skylar Diggins and Erica Wheeler and Minnesota's Courtney Williams.

Kyle Hamilton's versatility earns him the top safety spot in AP rankings

Kyle Hamilton has quickly proven that he can be a jack of all trades on Baltimore's stellar defense, thriving in the slot, the box, or as a deep safety. But it was the decision to move Hamilton to free safety midway through last season that helped eliminate the big plays and boost the Ravens' defense. Hamilton's talent and versatility helped him earn the honor of being voted the top safety in the league by The Associated Press. A panel of eight AP Pro Football Writers ranked the top five players at safety, basing selections on current status entering the 2025 season. First-place votes were worth 10 points. Second- through fifth-place votes were worth 5, 3, 2, and 1 points. Hamilton got five first place-votes, one second, and one third to claim the top spot. Detroit's Kerby Joseph got the other three first-place votes and finished second. Green Bay's Xavier McKinney, Detroit's Brian Branch, and Derwin James of the Los Angeles Chargers rounded out the top five. Atlanta's Jessie Bates, Tampa Bay's Antoine Winfield Jr., Miami's Minkah Fitzpatrick, Denver's Brandon Jones, Arizona's Budda Baker, and Houston's C.J. Gardner-Johnson also received votes. 1. KYLE HAMILTON, Baltimore RavensHamilton has been the most important piece on Baltimore's defense thanks in large part to his versatility. He has the ability to stop the run, excel against the pass, and rush the quarterback, and was voted a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and second-teamer last season. Hamilton played the majority of his snaps starting in Week 11 last season as a free safety, and the Ravens went from allowing 4.7 pass plays of at least 20 yards per game to 1.6 after the switch. 2. KERBY JOSEPH, Detroit LionsJoseph emerged as a big-time playmaker in his third season, leading the NFL with nine interceptions to earn first-team All-Pro honors. His 17 career interceptions are the most for any safety in his first three seasons since Hall of Famer Ed Reed had 21. 3. XAVIER MCKINNEY, Green Bay PackersMcKinney made a major impact on Green Bay's defense in his first season after signing with the Packers as a free agent. He was at his best in pass coverage as a deep safety. McKinney had eight interceptions last season and allowed a 56.4 passer rating when targeted in coverage according to Pro Football Focus. 4. BRIAN BRANCH, Detroit LionsBranch has become an immediate impact player on Detroit's defense since being drafted in the second round in 2023. He led all safeties with 16 passes defensed last season and was tied for third with eight tackles for loss as he performed at a high level both in the run and pass game. 5. DERWIN JAMES, Los Angeles ChargersJames bounced back from a down 2023 season to earn second-team All-Pro honors in his first season in coordinator Jesse Minter's defense. James is one of the most versatile safeties, getting extensive time working in the slot as a box safety, a deep safety, and even as a pass rusher, where he had the second-most pressures of any safety last season.

Caitlin Clark Could Be Sidelined Again With Another Injury Heading Into All-star Weekend

The Indiana Fever might be without star guard Caitlin Clark again for a bit after she injured her groin Tuesday night late in a win over the Connecticut Sun. It will be a busy week for the league's young star if she can play. Clark and the Fever visit New York on Wednesday night in the second half of a back-to-back, and Indiana hosts the All-Star Game this weekend. Clark is set to compete in a loaded 3-point contest Friday night and is captain of one of the All-Star teams. 'No update. Just felt a little something in her groin,' Fever coach Stephanie White said after an 85-77 victory over the Sun in Boston. 'We'll get it evaluated and see what happens from there.' Clark got hurt with under a minute left when she walked downcourt holding her right groin after assisting on the Fever's final basket. As teammate Aliyah Boston tried to console her, Clark walked to the basket stanchion and banged her head against it before heading to the bench. During the timeout, she covered her head with a towel and appeared to be holding back tears. Clark had been durable throughout college and her first season in the WNBA, never missing a game. Now she's had four different muscle injuries so far this year. She missed the preseason opener with tightness in her quad but played the next day in an exhibition game at her alma mater Iowa. She suffered a quad strain against New York on May 24 that kept her out for five games. Clark returned on June 14 and played in five games before suffering another injury to her left groin that kept her out for four contests and the Commissioners Cup final. The Fever canceled shootaround Wednesday morning in New York, a common practice when a team is playing back-to-back games. 'I think we just take it one step at a time. We'll get some food, get on the plane, and start talking about New York,' White said. 'She's being evaluated, we'll see where we are with that, and certainly we'll have another evaluation probably in conversation in the morning and see where we are. But you know, this group has played without her; we've at least got experience in that. We know that we have a tough opponent in New York, and we know it's going to be a challenge no matter what.'

USA Bobsled and Skeleton signs endorsement deal with Honda through 2030 Olympics

USA Bobsled and Skeleton has entered into a multi-year endorsement deal with American Honda, one that will give the sliding sports federation financial and technical support going into both next winter's Milan-Cortina Olympics and the 2030 Games in the French Alps. The deal announced Wednesday has been in the works for some time. Honda – which becomes the official premier technology partner of the teams – will give USABS among other things access to its wind tunnel in Ohio for research and development purposes. Such access is crucial when determining optimal sled positioning and other aerodynamic factors in sports where one-hundredth of a second can be the difference between winning and losing. Eventually, the partnership will evolve into sled design as well. 'Long term they'll be playing a role in helping us design bobsleds,' USABS CEO Aron McGuire told The Associated Press. 'We'll be looking at building four-man sleds initially. They will be providing the aerodynamic expertise and providing us insights, recommendations into how we can best design a sled as it relates to other factors like safety of the athletes sitting in the sled and the performance side of the design.' The teams will also have Acura logos on their sleds for all competitions through the 2030 Games. 'In sports where sleds can reach speeds of over 90 miles per hour and the difference between first and last can be measured in fractions of a second, our Honda engineers are eager to apply their engineering skills and racing background to the USABS programs,' said Larry Geise, the executive vice president of Honda Development & Manufacturing of America. Financial specifics were not disclosed, but the deal is one of the more significant in USABS history. 'It's at the top of the cash partners that we've had,' McGuire said. The news comes at a key time for the programs, with the next Olympics just seven months away. The US has legitimate medal hopes in bobsled and skeleton going into Milan-Cortina. Kaysha Love is the reigning women's monobob champion, women's pilots Kaillie Humphries Armbruster and Elana Meyers Taylor are the two most decorated female drivers in Olympic history, and the American duo of Austin Florian and Mystique Ro won a gold medal in the new mixed team skeleton discipline at the world championships earlier this year.
