Vir Chakra For IAF Pilots Who Hit Muridke, Bahawalpur Terror Bases, Downed Pakistani Jets
Nine IAF officers, including pilots who targeted terror headquarters in Muridke and Bahawalpur, as well as key Pakistani military assets during Operation Sindoor, have been awarded the Vir Chakra, news agency ANI reported Thursday.
The IAF also successfully downed at least six Pakistani aircraft during the May counter-terror operation to avenge the massacre of civilians in Pahalgam in April.
The Vir Chakra is the third highest wartime gallantry medal.
The officers awarded, according to ANI, are: Group Captain Ranjeet Singh Sidhu, Group Captain Manish Arora (Shaurya Chakra), Group Captain Animesh Patni, Group Captain Kunal Kalra, Wing Commander Joy Chandra, Squadron Leader Sarthak Kumar, Squadron Leader Siddhant Singh, Squadron Leader Rizwan Malik, and Flight Lieutenant Aarshveer Singh Thakur.

Gangster Salman Tyagi found dead in Delhi jail after conviction
New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): Gangster Salman Tyagi was found dead inside Delhi's Mandoli Jail on Saturday morning, hours after being convicted in a 2012 rioting and attempt-to-murder case, officials said. He was found hanging from a noose in Jail Number 15. 'In Mandoli jail, a gangster named Salman Tyagi died allegedly by suicide by hanging himself. The incident took place in jail number 15, and his body was found hanging from a noose this morning. Probe underway," Delhi Police said in a statement. Tyagi had several cases registered against him, including murder, extortion, and charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Earlier in the day, a Delhi court convicted Tyagi and four of his associates in a 12-year-old case registered at Hari Nagar Police Sessions Judge (ASJ) Shivali Sharma of Tis Hazari Court held Tyagi, along with Sahil alias Chhota Roshan, S Mustafa Tyagi, Mansoor Tyagi, and Manish alias Deepak, guilty of rioting with deadly weapons and attempt to murder. Tyagi was also convicted under Section 25 of the Arms Act. Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Shivali Sharma of Tis Hazari Court held Tyagi, along with Sahil alias Chota Roshan, S Mustafa Tyagi, Mansoor Tyagi, and Manish alias Deepak, guilty of rioting with deadly weapons and attempt to murder. Tyagi was also convicted for an offence under section 25 of the Arms Act. However, the court acquitted Mohd. Saddam alias Gauri of all charges. The prosecution had alleged that on the intervening night of September 24 and 25, 2012, Tyagi and his associates, namely Mansoor Tyagi, Mani Nasa (since deceased), Saddam Gauri, Deepu alias Bunda and Sahil alias Chhota Roshan, armed with firearms, swords and iron rods, attacked a man named Salim near Shamshan Ghat road in Hari Nagar. Delhi Police chief sets fresh target for the force
Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Friday set fresh targets for the Delhi Police in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Red Fort address on Independence Day. (ANI) According to a Delhi Police spokesperson, the commissioner congratulated officers and staff for ensuring incident-free security arrangements on Independence Day and said, 'Despite working so hard, even beyond working hours, we have not been able to win the trust of the public in the form that we should have done.' Drawing from the Prime Minister's speech, Singh outlined three areas of focus for the force — self-reliance, technology adoption and healthy competition — and gave timelines to come up with a proposal. The commissioner asked units to submit proposals within 15 days on reducing dependence on other agencies for specialised resources such as commandos, bomb disposal squads and wireless systems. He also said that the force needs to 'go further' in surveillance, cybercrime prevention, anti-drone defence and counter-terror operations. He directed technology units to form committees and submit recommendations within a month. Singh stressed on the need to cultivate healthy competition within the force while discarding jealousy, at both the individual and organisational levels. Singh also congratulated 18 Delhi Police personnel who were conferred police medals for distinguished and meritorious service on Independence Day. Meanwhile, eight Delhi Police personnel, including an inspector, were suspended on Saturday after a surprise inspection by Singh found that they were absent from duty outside an ISKCON temple in Shahbad Dairy. Officials said Singh was reviewing Janmashtami security arrangements across the city when he noticed that officers posted at Gate No. 2 of the temple were missing. A senior police officer confirmed the suspensions and said a departmental inquiry has been initiated to ascertain if more personnel were absent. The suspended staff range from constables to inspector-rank officers, the officer added, stressing that strict action has been ordered.

Delhi Police bust cyber-extortion racket, arrests three including LSE graduate
New Delhi [India], August 17 (ANI): In a major bust of cyber-extortion, a joint team of PS DBG Road and PS Cyber, Central District, Delhi Police arrested three men, including a London School of Economics graduate, for allegedly trying to extort money through international WhatsApp calls and cryptocurrency payments, officials said on Saturday. The accused, who allegedly posed as associates of a notorious gangster to instil fear, were traced to Thailand before being apprehended on their return to India, they said. According to police, the case came to light after a complainant approached PS DBG Road, reporting that he had received a threatening WhatsApp call from an international number. The caller identified himself as a well-known gangster, demanded money, and even sent a cryptocurrency QR code for payment. The threat escalated when the complainant was warned that his children would be shot if the demand was not met. Based on the complaint, a case under Section 308(4) BNS was registered at PS DBG Road, and a joint investigation was launched by PS DBG Road and PS Cyber of the Central technical team swung into action using advanced & paid cyber tools, traced the suspected International WhatsApp call & the origin of the QR Code sent to the complainant, for the receipt of extortion money to Thailand. The previous crypto-transaction was analysed using advanced cyber tools in coordination with i4C, MHA, and the suspects were successfully tracked down in Thailand, they said. Meanwhile, surveillance teams in India monitored the suspects' local addresses. As soon as the suspects returned from Thailand, they were immediately apprehended. The accused have been identified as (1) Sumit, resident of West Punjabi Bagh, Delhi; (2) Prince, resident of Roshanara Road, near Pulbangash, Delhi; and (3) Nitish, resident of DLF Capital Green, Moti Nagar, Delhi – a master's graduate from the London School of Economics (LSE), police said. Two mobile phones used for generating crypto QR codes and making international WhatsApp calls were also recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they were all heavily debt-ridden and sought an 'easy way" out of their financial troubles. Sumit, who works in the jewellery business and was acquainted with the complainant's family, allegedly orchestrated the plan. To create fear, the trio used the name of a well-known gangster. The accused conspired in India, travelled to Thailand to evade detection, purchased an international SIM card, and used it to place WhatsApp calls, police added. (ANI)
