Govt. gives nod to revise cost estimate of Sita Rama Lift Irrigation Scheme project by 48%
The State Government has decided to revise the estimated cost of the Sita Rama Lift Irrigation Scheme (SRLIS) to ₹19,325 crore from ₹13,058 crore and the revision would benefit 11 constituencies in three districts by creating irrigation potential of 3.29 lakh acres, besides stabilising the 3.45 lakh acres existing ayacut, Minister for Agriculture Tummala Nageswara Rao said.
He thanked Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for giving a go-ahead to revise the estimated cost of the project by about 48%. The project would create an irrigation facility to 3.29 lakh acres of new ayacut in 31 mandals of the 11 constituencies in Khammam, Bhadradri-Kothagudem and Mahabubabad districts.
The main canal of the SRLIS was completed for 104 km length and the revised cost would also enable modernisation of distributaries and field channels in the purview of the SRLIS ayacut. The Minister stated that Sattupalli Trunk (tunnel) and Palair link canal was completed till 60 km and work was in progress for the remaining 125 km and would be completed in a year.
Stating that tenders were called for eight distributaries and the process of land acquisition would be completed soon by the districts' administration concerned, Mr. Nageswara Rao said that Grama Sabhas and enjoyment survey pertaining to the land acquisition was also in progress. 'All the distributaries and field channels would be completed in two years time,' he added.
Plans were afoot to release at least 1,600 cusecs by June-end next to stabilise the 1.21 lakh acres ayacut under Nagarjunasagar Left Canal and benefiting another 10,000 acres by filling water in the minor irrigation tanks. The revised cost would also enable completion of the Yathalakunta tunnel in Package-9 to give water to 120 minor irrigation tanks in December.
Further, the revision of estimates had enabled planning taking up Julurupadu tunnel with the target to complete it by 2026-end.

PC Ghose Commission report on Kaleshwaram project submitted to Telangana CM
The PC Ghose Commission report on Kaleshwaram project was submitted to Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday and it is likely to come up in the next Cabinet meeting. Principal Secretary, Irrigation and Command Area Development, Rahul Bojja, submitted the report to the Chief Minister in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. Immediately after the report's submission, the government constituted a committee with Secretaries of the Irrigation, Law and General Administration Departments to study the report. The Committee is likely to complete the exercise and submit its report to the government, to be taken up in the State Cabinet on August 4. Later, the Chief Minister held a preliminary discussion on the report. It is learnt that the PC Ghose Commission has made it clear in its report about failures in the construction of the barrages of Kaleshwaram project and said faults were seen from the lowest level to the highest level in the government. The Commission apparently felt that norms were thrown to the winds and works were done not professionally, by according to the whims and fancies of the individuals. The decisions at the engineering and construction level were taken due to pressure from the top officials and political bosses. Violations were found right from the preparation of the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Committee, which was appointed to study the construction of the Kaleshwaram project comprehensively, including structural and procedural lapses and violations of norms in administrative decisions, submitted its report to the Irrigation Secretary Rahul Bojja on Thursday.

Panchayat Secretary suspended for uploading CM's picture on DSR mobile app meant for marking attendance
A Panchayat Secretary in Jagtial district was suspended for allegedly uploading Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy's 'capture photo' instead of his geo-tagged photograph on the Daily Sanitation Report (DSR) Mobile Application for Panchayat Secretaries to mark their attendance. T Rajanna, Panchayat Secretary, Chandaiahpalli, Buggaram mandal, was placed under suspension by Jagtial Collector B. Satya Prasad on Friday, official sources said. The action came a day after the Panchayat Secretary failed to give a suitable reply to a show-cause notice served on him over the alleged discrepancy. According to official sources, the Panchayat Secretaries have to monitor maintenance of sanitation in their respective Gram Panchayats daily before 7 a.m. and mark their attendance with their geo-tagged photographs on the DSR App, as per the provisions of the Panchayat Raj Act 2018.

Telangana CM stresses need for strengthening Congress–Left cooperation
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has underlined the need for further strengthening the cooperation between the Congress and the Left parties as the understanding between the two will help in serving the people. The Chief Minister recalled the role played by the Communists in helping the Congress come to power in the past as well as present and said that the coordination should continue in future too. He was speaking at the anniversary celebrations of Nava Telangana Telugu daily, which is backed by CPI (Marxist), in Hyderabad on Friday (August 1, 2025). Newspapers worked for forging unity among the people in the struggle for independence. The dailies backed by the Left parties especially strove to create awareness among the people on social evils/stigmas. Only a few newspapers stood by the side of the people and Nava Telangana was one among them. 'Political parties of the yesteryears used dailies to spread their ideology,' he recalled. However, Mr. Reddy expressed concern that newspapers, those launched with political motivation in particular, were working to protect their monetary interests as well as hide the mistakes of the parties promoting them. 'People should keenly observe the behaviour of some political dailies which are trying to influence them in the garb of journalism,' he said. Added to this was the influence of the social media allowing unqualified people to masquerade as journalists. 'The time has come when genuine journalists are forced to define the meaning of journalism holding seminars,' he said. He recalled how senior leaders used to gather information from journalists on relevant subjects in the past before holding press meets. 'The situation has changed now as political parties are influencing the content. Conspiracies are being launched to dilute journalism field,' he lamented adding that journalists, like political leaders, were fast losing the confidence of the people. The time has come to draw a 'Lakshman Rekha' to separate genuine journalists from those masquerading as journalists, or else the situation was likely to pose a threat to the nation, he said. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Advisor to Government Vem Narender Reddy were among present.
