Telangana CM stresses need for strengthening Congress–Left cooperation
The Chief Minister recalled the role played by the Communists in helping the Congress come to power in the past as well as present and said that the coordination should continue in future too. He was speaking at the anniversary celebrations of Nava Telangana Telugu daily, which is backed by CPI (Marxist), in Hyderabad on Friday (August 1, 2025).
Newspapers worked for forging unity among the people in the struggle for independence. The dailies backed by the Left parties especially strove to create awareness among the people on social evils/stigmas. Only a few newspapers stood by the side of the people and Nava Telangana was one among them. 'Political parties of the yesteryears used dailies to spread their ideology,' he recalled.
However, Mr. Reddy expressed concern that newspapers, those launched with political motivation in particular, were working to protect their monetary interests as well as hide the mistakes of the parties promoting them. 'People should keenly observe the behaviour of some political dailies which are trying to influence them in the garb of journalism,' he said.
Added to this was the influence of the social media allowing unqualified people to masquerade as journalists. 'The time has come when genuine journalists are forced to define the meaning of journalism holding seminars,' he said.
He recalled how senior leaders used to gather information from journalists on relevant subjects in the past before holding press meets. 'The situation has changed now as political parties are influencing the content. Conspiracies are being launched to dilute journalism field,' he lamented adding that journalists, like political leaders, were fast losing the confidence of the people.
The time has come to draw a 'Lakshman Rekha' to separate genuine journalists from those masquerading as journalists, or else the situation was likely to pose a threat to the nation, he said. Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Advisor to Government Vem Narender Reddy were among present.

Believers could be brought in to fight Hindutva ideology, says Govindan
Religious believers and all secular, progressive-minded people should be rallied against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh-Bharatiya Janata Party (RSS-BJP) combine's bid to bring in a 'neo-fascist rule' in the country, Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State secretary M.V. Govindan has said. He was opening a seminar on 'Theocratic state: In India and abroad', organised by the Keluettan Centre for Study and Research, Kozhikode, on Saturday (August 9). Mr. Govindan claimed that the country had not yet gone into a 'completely militaristic and fascist rule'. 'We are under a partially militaristic administration. The Union government has taken control of all independent constitutional institutions such as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, the Enforcement Directorate, and the Central Bureau of Investigation. Even a section of the judiciary has been compromised. Now, Bharatiya Janata Party spokespersons are being nominated as judges,' he said. Mr. Govindan claimed that if the country moved towards a fully 'militaristic administration', it would pave the way for 'neo-fascism'. The CPI(M) leader also highlighted that apart from the RSS-BJP combine that functions under the Hindutva theocratic ideology, there were organisations such as the Jamaat-e-Islami and Church Auxiliary for Social Action, which too were divisive forces. 'These communal organisations represent various theocratic ideologies. However, if they fight with each other, that will not end up in one side winning. Their fight will only result in mutual benefit,' Mr. Govindan said. To fight such forces, the help of all religious believers, who are not communalists, should be needed, he said. Academics K.M. Seethi and A.M. Shinas presented papers on the topic.

CM, Deputy CM to join Janahita padayatra
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief B. Mahesh Kumar Goud said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and several other ministers will join his 'Janahita padayatra' sometime, stating that the yatra will resume on August 23. He remarked that attempts were made to project his yatra as AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan's by some for vested interests. The yatra, launched on July 31, was halted on August 4 since the TPCC staged a dharna in Delhi demanding approval of bills on BC reservation bills. In an informal interaction with the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Saturday, Mr. Mahesh Kumar revealed that they initially wanted to launch a bus yatra but later decided to take up a padayatra (foot march), adding that the yatra is receiving an overwhelming response, akin to the Bharat Jodo Yatra. 'The majority of the appeals from the people during the yatra are related to the sanction of new pensions,' he said. Referring to the issue of BC reservations, the TPCC president reiterated their commitment towards implementing 42% reservations for BCs. He, however, criticised the BJP leaders for their opposition to Muslims reservations within the BC reservations. 'Why is Union Minister Kishan Reddy silent on reservations for Muslims in Gujarat, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh?' he asked, adding that the silence of BJP BC MPs, Bandi Sanjay, Eatala Rajender, and Dharmapuri Arvind, would harm the BCs in the State. The Congress senior leader also said that a BC leader from the Congress would certainly become the Chief Minister for Telangana. He also said that there is nothing wrong with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for saying that he would remain in the post for 10 years, as that would help the government gain the confidence of the people. 'There has been a lot of change in the Chief Minister's behaviour, he is a different person now compared to when he was TPCC president,' he said. Mr. Mahesh Kumar also dismissed the reports that he had differences with Chief Minister. 'We maintain a good relationship. It should be noted that we fought unitedly for the BC reservations,' he claimed. On recent comments by Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy and Jadcherla MLA J. Anirudh Reddy, the TPCC president said the party's disciplinary committee would look into the matter. He also stated that the political advisory committee would meet in four to five days to take a call on BC reservations in the local bodies.

Congress and BRS share a protection bond: Bandi Sanjay Kumar
Accusing the BRS and Congress of shielding each other's 'corruption' and 'acts of deception', Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has alleged that the two parties are having a mutual understanding to defend each other from 'wrong-doings' as part of a 'protection bond.' He was speaking to mediapersons in Karimnagar after participating in Raksha Bandhan festivities on Saturday. Mr. Sanjay reiterated his demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the phone tapping during the previous BRS rule, saying the scope of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) currently probing the case is very limited. The phone tapping was done under the K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) government in violation of the regulations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority, he said, saying, 'This is entirely a matter under the jurisdiction of the Centre. The accused extorted hundreds of crores of rupees from political leaders, businessmen and film actors through phone tapping, he charged. Where did that money go? he asked, saying finding an answer to that is beyond the capacity of SIT officials. Responding to a query, he said, 'We do have trust in the SIT officials. But we have no trust in the Congress government. In cases like irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, power purchase agreements and the Formula E Race, and other scams surfaced during the previous BRS rule, the current Congress dispensation in the State is only delaying under the pretext of investigation without taking any action.' He further alleged that the phones of several politicians including the present Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy were also tapped by the previous BRS government. Can the SIT issue a notice to the Chief Minister and summon him for questioning? Mr Sanjay asked. It is imperative to hand over the phone tapping case to the central investigative agencies to complete the investigation quickly without delays, he insisted. Replying to a question, he said, 'The phones of the ministers, MLAs and MLCs were tapped. If BRS MLAs have any self-respect, they should leave that party.' 'BRS MLC Kalvakunta Kavitha should be served notices and questioned in the phone tapping case,' he said in reply to another query. On BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR)'s reported statement to issue a legal notice to him, Mr Sanjay said, 'I am ready to swear before God on phone tapping. Will KTR be ready to accept my challenge?'
