'More like a trip with friends': Cast of K-drama Love, Take Two recall bonding in the countryside during filming, Entertainment News

AsiaOnea day ago
Filming for their new drama almost turned into a retreat for actors Yum Jung-ah, Choi Yoon-ji and Kim Min-kyu.
AsiaOne recently spoke to the cast of new K-drama Love, Take Two about their experiences portraying their characters, as well as filming in the countryside.
The comedy-drama follows the story of construction site manager Lee Ji-an (Jung-ah) and her medical student daughter Lee Hyo-ri (Yoon-ji), who move to Cheonghae Village in the countryside to start a new chapter in their lives. There, Ji-an bumps into her first love Ryu Jeong-seok (Park Hae-joon) and Hyo-ri crosses paths with his son Bo-hyun (Kim Min-kyu), a bright young farmer.
The cast spoke to AsiaOne about the memorable times when they bonded on and off set.
Min-kyu, 30, regaled: "One memory that comes to mind is the three-day shoot we had in Gangneung with our Cheonghae Village friends. We went to arcades, worked out together and enjoyed great food.
"It honestly felt more like a trip with friends than work. We all got a lot closer during that period so it really stands out in my memory."
Actors Kim Mi-kyung, Kang Ae-shim, Jung Young-joo and Park Soo-young played residents of the village.
He added: "While filming, we visited so many beautiful places across South Korea. Each time, we'd have meals together and share stories together and those little moments became such a source of healing for me."
We asked the actors if they would consider living in the countryside, now that they've had a taste of the fresh air and wide-open spaces.
Min-kyu told us he would still pick living in the city. "It's mostly because I love food so much - I need delivery options even late at night. But rather than a big, bustling city, I prefer somewhere quieter. A city where I can enjoy time alone."
Jung-ah, 53, said: "It's hard to choose between the convenience of city life and the comfort of the countryside but because we filmed most of this drama outside the city, the cast became closer than ever.
"We even made fun little videos together like Shorts and Reels while watching funny clips. I hope viewers will enjoy these behind-the-scenes moments as much as we did."
For Yoon-ji, it was through the drama that she found herself thinking: "Life in the quiet countryside might be wonderfully peaceful too."
The 28-year-old added: "At times, the landscape even speaks for the characters' emotions. I think viewers will naturally find themselves immersed in that atmosphere. The calm, seasonal music woven throughout adds to a sense of peace, making the entire watching experience comforting." Living vicariously through their characters
Despite having portrayed mother-daughter relationships in past shows, Jung-ah said it was different this time. "This was the first time the story felt so personal - like a reflection of my own life. That made it easier to fully immerse myself. As a mother myself who shares both tender and tough moments with her daughter, I naturally found myself blending into my character."
In their likeness, she relates to her no-nonsense character Ji-an in more ways than just being mothers.
The veteran actress shared: "No matter what role I take on, it's impossible to completely separate myself from the character. Ji-an's independence and boldness are qualities that really resemble who I am in real life. And like her, my children always come before work."
"But honestly, she has more lovable sides than I do. In portraying these qualities, I found myself living vicariously through her at times."
While Yoon-ji was never a rebel in her youth, she resonated with her character in other ways.
"From the moment I first read the script, I felt that Hyo-ri's personality had a lot in common with mine and I really wanted to play her. She's a multi-dimensional character who lived a simple life but begins to grow through a major turning point and experiences a wide range of emotions. As an actor, I was drawn to that challenge.
"However, because she doesn't openly express her feelings, I felt it was even more important to convey her inner world through silence and glances - nonverbal, subtle expressions rather than lines.
"I don't see Hyo-ri as defensive. I think she's a girl who knows more than she lets on. Even in her cold tone, I felt there was a quiet desperation hiding beneath and I tried to reflect that in my performance."
Love, Take Two is now available for streaming on Viu.

NDP 2025: Crowds gather at Marina Bay as celebrations extend beyond Padang for the first time, Singapore News

Even as people were taking their seats in Padang, the Marina Bay area was with buzzing with various local acts performing at the Waterfront Promenade entertaining the crowd with a mix of pop tracks and National Day Parade theme songs. More than 200,000 are expected to be in the area to be part of Singapore's 60th birthday bash. Among the crowd was a Singapore couple, who arrived as early at 2.30pm to secure good spots to watch the festivities and even set up a tripod to capture photos. Soaking in the National Day Parade atmosphere for the first time were 20-year-olds Ashraff and Haini, who are especially looking forward to the fireworks — particularly the special SG60 finale feature at the end. Ashraff also surprised Haini with her favourite perfume, given in celebration of her birthday three days earlier, as they enjoyed a picnic with a spread of food. Another Singaporean who was in the thick of action with her immediate and extended family was 30-year-old Jean Toh. Toh's family, who usually gather at their parents' house to watch the celebrations on TV, arrived around 2pm to reserve good spots for the event. She also said that her 8-year-old son was especially excited to see the fly-past. 'Take Singapore as an inspiration' Ato Wright, who arrived from Ghana, West Africa, on Aug 6, said he was very impressed by Singapore's success. Speaking to AsiaOne, the YouTuber, also known as Red Ringo, credited former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and Singapore's leadership as key reasons for his interest in the country. "A country like Ghana has so many resources, but we suffer because of poor leadership and corruption. I hope we can learn from Singapore, and I will keep telling people back home about Singapore," said Wright, adding that he sees Singapore as an inspiration for education, leadership, and technology. "I always take Singapore as an inspiration for developing countries." Wright, who will be in Singapore for a week, said that during his visit, he managed to explore religious sites and cultural areas. He also shared his love for Maxwell Food Centre and tried different types of food, including Indian, Chinese, Malay, and Vietnamese cuisines during his stay. To commemorate the SG60 milestone, the scale of NDP 2025 is different from previous parades with the national day live show extended from Padang to Marina Bay for the first time. This year's NDP will also feature a first-ever "Jump of Unity" with the Red Lions and Naval Divers landing at two iconic locations: the Padang and Marina Bay. [[nid:721156]]

NDP 2025: More than 27,000 people throng Padang as festivities kick off, Singapore News

The weather forecast in the morning of National Day Parade (NDP) warned of thundery showers in several areas across Singapore later in the day. Instead, the 27,000 spectators, most wearing red and white, thronged the stands at the Padang on Saturday (Aug 9) under the blazing afternoon sun for the National Day Parade. The gates opened around 4pm, and as spectators made their way to their seats, many shielded themselves from the heat with umbrellas. Farina Jumat, 28 and her sister Farisah, 19, went even further. The pair told AsiaOne that they 'came prepared'— with portable fans. Farina, a pre-school teacher, said it was raining when they left home at Bukit Batok two hours ago. 'It's really hot now, but I'm looking forward to the parade. Happy SG60,' she added. Adeline Toh, 55, is attending the NDP for the first time as a spectator. Toh, who was with her husband, William, told AsiaOne at the Padang said that she was a performer at the NDP held at the former National Stadium in 1985. The patient service executive said: "I've been trying to get a ticket for more than 40 years. "We've been watching the previous NDPs at home and at Marina Bay. I'm sure we will have the best seat for fireworks later." More than 200,000 people are expected around Marina Bay area to enjoy the festivities as part of an "expanded canvas" to mark Singapore's 60th birthday. The pre-parade segment in Padang is expected to begin at 5pm with a musical film by singer Benjamin Kheng and his original NDP tune Makin' Our Way. Transitioning from the screen, 59 students from the Institute of Technical Education and 100 volunteers from TOUCH Community Services will take to the stage in vibrant costumes in a dance performance. In total, more than 3,000 performers and artistes converging from various schools, ministries and organisations are involved in this year's NDP. They will be performing on a 360 deg moving platform, in what has been described by organisers as the largest mobile stage in NDP history. There is also a nine-meter mobile floating stage in Marina Bay mounted on a Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) Fast Craft Utility, where Kheng will sing with 12 dancers from the Music and Drama Company. This will be followed by the Jump of Unity, featuring the Red Lions parachutists from perennial crowd favourites the Red Lions and naval divers from the RSN. It is the first time the two parachute teams will land at separate venues at the NDP. Another first? The Singapore Armed Forces Volunteer Corps is fielding its first full contingent and the inaugural appearance of the Singapore Civil Defence Force guard-of-honour contingent. They are part of the parade featuring 2,100 participants in 40 marching contingents from the Singapore Armed Forces, Home Team, uniformed groups as well as social and economic groups. For those enjoying the festivities at home, look out for the aerial state flag fly-past of two CH-47 heavy lift helicopters, and escorted by two AH-64D Apache attack helicopters. The flag fly-past will be making its way across the island from 5.30pm to 6.20pm. The show segment then kicks off as dawn turns to dusk. It will be told across four acts, each inspired by the words and lines from the National Anthem, Majulah Singapura. NDP2025 culminates in a fireworks show specially designed for SG60. [[nid:720908]]
