Will Dhoni play in IPL 2026? Here's what the legend said on his retirement

As the 2025 IPL season winds down, speculation about MS Dhoni's future in the league intensifies. At 43, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon remains a pivotal figure, both on and off the field. Despite ongoing discussions about his retirement, Dhoni has not provided a definitive answer, leaving fans and cricket enthusiasts eagerly awaiting his decision.
In a recent post-match presentation, Dhoni addressed the retirement rumours, stating, "There is no escaping the fact that I am in the last phase of my career. After this IPL gets over, I have to work hard for another 6–8 months to see if my body can take this pressure." This candid acknowledgment highlights his commitment to assessing his physical readiness before making any decisions about the 2026 season.
Dhoni's impact and CSK's performance
Dhoni's influence on CSK extends beyond his on-field contributions. His leadership and experience have been instrumental in shaping the team's strategy and mentoring younger players. CSK's performance without him has been notably inconsistent, underscoring his value to the franchise. While he may not continue as captain, with Ruturaj Gaikwad being groomed for the role, Dhoni's presence remains vital.
Head coach Stephen Fleming emphasised Dhoni's importance, stating, "He is still going strong. I don't even ask about his future these days." This sentiment reflects the trust and reliance the team places in their veteran player.

Dhoni's bond with fans is unparalleled. Stadiums across India are filled with supporters donning yellow jerseys, eager to witness what could be his final appearances. Acknowledging this, Dhoni remarked, "I'm 42 now. I've been playing for a long time. Many fans don't know if it's the last time they'll see me, so they want to catch these moments." This deep connection adds an emotional layer to his potential retirement, making the decision even more significant.
Looking ahead
While Dhoni has not confirmed his participation in IPL 2026, his statements suggest a thoughtful evaluation period ahead. He plans to spend the next 6–8 months assessing his physical condition before making a final decision. For now, fans can take solace in the possibility of seeing their beloved "Thala" grace the field once more.

Scott Boland in dark about his spot in Australia's playing XI for WTC final

London [UK], June 6 (ANI): Australia's seasoned quick Scott Boland is still in the dark about his potential appearance in the World Test Championship final against South Africa on Tuesday at the Lord's, a venue where he would 'love' to play. With match figures of 5/105, the 36-year-old was one of Australia's premier pacers when they lifted their maiden WTC mace at The Oval in 2023 against India. He boosted his credentials against India by scalping 21 wickets in three appearances as Australia celebrated its first Border-Gavaskar Trophy triumph in a decade. Despite his exploits, Boland has found himself in a neck-to-neck battle with IPL-winning seamer Josh Hazlewood for one spot in the defending champions' pace setup against the Proteas. With less than a week left for the enticing contest, Boland has yet to receive the green light from the selectors about his spot in the playing XI. 'I haven't had any chats with them (selectors). My goal coming into the last two months is just to get myself and my body in the position where I can put my hand up and be ready to go if it (selection) goes my way,' Boland said in London on Thursday, as quoted from ICC. 'I probably felt like back into the Shield season (Australian domestic red-ball competition), my knee was sort of not wearing away but wasn't going how I wanted it to go and didn't feel like I was bowling how I wanted, but now I feel like I'm in a really good spot that I can bowl how I want to bowl. It's pulling up really well, so that's all I can do, and I just want to make that decision (for selectors) as hard as possible,' he added. Boland snuck his first training session with Australia on Wednesday while Hazlewood linked up with the team in London after his title-winning campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday. The 36-year-old is aware of the carnage that a fully fit Hazlewood can inflict on the opposition. However, he pushed his case by citing his recent stellar performances for Australia in the Test format. 'I feel like I had a couple of really strong games (during the Border-Gavaskar series), but Josh is obviously a world-class bowler. He's one of the best bowlers in the world, coming off a really good IPL, so I'm sure he'll be doing the same thing here (to push his case for selection). Obviously, we all want to play, but there's probably not room for all of us,' Boland said. If Boland earns a spot in Australia's playing XI, he will make his first appearance at the iconic Lord's. For him, it will be a 'pretty special' moment to bowl at the 'Home of Cricket'. 'I'd love to play at Lord's. I think everyone's looking forward to getting there for training in a few days' time and then getting to the game, as it's a pretty special place for cricket,' he added. (ANI)

Preity Zinta pens heartfelt note after PBKS lose IPL final to RCB: 'It didn't end the way we wanted it to'

After Punjab Kings' narrow defeat in the IPL 2025 final against Royal Challengers Bangalore, team co-owner Preity Zinta took to social media to share an emotional message, reflecting on a season full of highs and lows. Actor and PBKS owner Preity Zinta wrote on Instagram on June 6. "It didn't end the way we wanted it to but the journey was spectacular ! It was exciting, entertaining & it was inspiring. I loved the fight & the grit our young team, our shers showed through out the tournament. I loved the way our captain, our Sarpanch lead from the front & how Indian uncapped players dominated this IPL," she wrote. This year, Punjab Kings reached the IPL final for the first time in over a decade. Zinta described the season as 'unique', noting the team overcame multiple challenges — including injuries to key players, national call-ups, a pause in the tournament, and even having to relocate home games. 'This year was unique. We smashed records even though we lost key players to injury & national duty, witnessed a pause in the tournament, transferred home games to other states & evacuated a stadium ! We adapted & topped the points table after a decade & fought till the end in an exciting final,' she said. Zinta praised every player and thanked the support staff and fans for their unwavering belief. She wrote, 'I am so proud of each n every player of Punjab Kings for showing so much character throughout the tournament. A big thank you to each of them and to our support staff and everyone at PBKS for an incredible season. Most of all a HEARTFELT THANK YOU to our - SHER SQUAD - our FANS that stood with us through thick n thin.' Ending on a hopeful note, she promised a stronger comeback: 'Whatever we are & how far we have reached is all because of you. I promise we will come back to finish the job cuz as of now the job is still half done. See you next year in the stadium , till then take care n stay safe everyone. Love you all." Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched their maiden IPL title with a narrow 6-run win over Punjab Kings in the final.
