Police warn of online scams targeting Char Dham devotees
Jaipur: The police headquarters Friday issued an advisory warning people about a spike in fraud cases targeting pilgrims travelling for the Char Dham yatra, cautioning them against falling prey to these scams. Officials said cybercriminals are creating fake websites and online booking platforms to deceive devotees.
These scammers pose as representatives of bogus travel agencies and offer seemingly attractive deals, including helicopter rides, hotel stays, and full tour packages, tricking people into losing their money.
The cyber branch of the state police urged the public to make bookings only through official websites and authorised agents. It also warned people to stay vigilant against flashy advertisements spreading across social media platforms.
Director general of police (Cyber Crime) Hemant Priyadarshi said cybercriminals are using multiple methods to target devotees, especially those planning helicopter trips to Kedarnath or arranging accommodation for Char Dham and related pilgrimage routes.
