Police warn of online scams targeting Char Dham devotees
These scammers pose as representatives of bogus travel agencies and offer seemingly attractive deals, including helicopter rides, hotel stays, and full tour packages, tricking people into losing their money.
The cyber branch of the state police urged the public to make bookings only through official websites and authorised agents. It also warned people to stay vigilant against flashy advertisements spreading across social media platforms.
Director general of police (Cyber Crime) Hemant Priyadarshi said cybercriminals are using multiple methods to target devotees, especially those planning helicopter trips to Kedarnath or arranging accommodation for Char Dham and related pilgrimage routes.

3 electrocuted in 2 accidents during Ganeshotsav prep in city
Hyderabad: Three men died in two electrocution accidents during Ganeshotsav preparations in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The twin tragedy came a day after five persons were electrocuted during a Janmashtami chariot procession in Ramanthapur late Sunday. In Bandlaguda, two men — tractor driver Dhoni alias Toni (19) and Vikas (21), a labourer — were electrocuted and their associate, Akhil (23), was injured when the Ganesh idol they were transporting in a tractor-trolley came in contact with a high-tension power line on Tuesday. The injured man was hospitalised. Cops relax loudspeaker timings for festivals, but put volume cap
Nagpur: The Nagpur city police announced exemptions for extended loudspeaker use from 6am to midnight on August 27 (Ganesh Chaturthi), August 29 (Gauri Visarjan), September 5 (Eid-e-Milad), and September 6 (Anant Chaturdashi). "These exemptions, however, are strictly conditional on compliance with the high court's noise pollution guidelines," said CP Ravinder Singal. According to the high court's orders, permissible sound levels are capped at 55 decibels in residential areas and 50 decibels in silence zones, such as areas near hospitals, schools, colleges, and courts. The use of loudspeakers and musical instruments require prior permission and are generally allowed only between 6am and 10pm, except on exempted days. During processions, organisers must comply with these limits, particularly in silence zones, and avoid using loudspeakers or raising slogans near religious places during prayer times, cops said. Violators face fines, equipment seizure, and legal action under the Maharashtra Police Act and Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. The police have mandated strict adherence to noise limits for loudspeakers and musical instruments. Last year, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) processed 1,246 permission applications for Ganeshotsav, approving 917 and rejecting 329 due to non-compliance. Man kills wife with axe in Khandwa, arrested
Indore: A man allegedly killed his wife with an axe after she refused to sleep with him while they were visiting his family in Kudalda village in Khandwa district late on Monday night. The man, Dharmendra, was found sitting next to his wife's body when he was arrested by the police. The victim was identified as Malti. According to her sister-in-law, Gayatri, the couple, who usually resided in Singot, had come to the village for Raksha Bandhan. They stayed on for funeral and other rituals of Dharmendra's elder brother, Tarachand, who had died on August 15. Gayatri said that late on Monday night, Dharmendra asked Malti to come to their own house to sleep. Malti refused, saying that she would sleep on a mat with the other family members, including her son and Gayatri. While the family was asleep, Dharmendra returned and allegedly struck Malti twice with an axe near her ear and neck. Her screams woke up Gayatri but by the time she could react, Malti had died.
