BREAKING NEWS College football star William Hardrick killed at 22 as man is arrested on murder charge
A man has reportedly been charged with murdering college football star William Hardrick after the 22-year-old was killed in a deadly car crash in Alabama.
Investigators claim that Hardrick's dreams of reaching the NFL were tragically ended after an alleged drunk driver hit eight cars.
Hardrick - a defensive back for Austin Peay State University in Tennesee - was killed while driving home to Adamsville, Alabama. He was pronounced dead at the scene after a car left the road and flipped multiple times, the coroner said.
According to KPLC, John McAdams has been charged with murder, as well as leaving the scene of an accident and DUI, over the deadly crash.
It's said that a sobriety test showed McAdams was over the legal drink-drive limit.
Hardrick was described as 'an exceptional young man' in a statement by Austin Peay football coach Jeff Faris.
'Our team is heartbroken by his loss... he made everyone around him better and has made a real impact both on and off the field. We lift up the Hardrick family in prayer as we grieve this tragic loss with them.'
Hardrick grew up in Adamsville, where he was a standout receiver and defensive back in high school.
The 22-year-old spent two seasons with Mississippi State, where he played in one game as a freshman in 2021. He transferred in 2023 to Miami.
He played in 18 games for the RedHawks during the past two seasons, during which made 32 solo or assisted tackles, forced a fumble and broke up five passes.
'We are truly saddened by the passing of William Hardrick, a new member of our football program and the Austin Peay family,' Austin Peay vice president and director of athletics Gerald Harrison said.
'All of our thoughts and prayers are with the Hardrick Family today. We will do everything we can to support his friends, family, and teammates at this time.'

Louisiana father charged with murder after leaving daughter, 1, inside 105F car for NINE hours
A Louisiana father was arrested for murder after he allegedly left his infant daughter inside a car for more than nine hours on a day where temperatures reached over 100 degrees. Joseph Boatman, 32, was detained Sunday after his 21-month-old daughter was left buckled inside a car in the Madisonville-area for hours on end. Deputies with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office were called to a residence just before noon after a family member found the baby unresponsive inside the vehicle, police said. Authorities soon discovered that Boatman picked his daughter up from a family member's home earlier that morning after he 'consumed multiple alcoholic beverages.' He then strapped his child into a car seat around 2.30am and 'went back inside the residence and never returned to the vehicle,' police said. The temperature in Madisonville that day reached 95F, meaning it felt more like 105F inside the car. 'This is a devastating loss that no family ever wants to face,' Sheriff Randy Smith said. 'When a child is left in a vehicle, especially on a day when the heat index climbs over 100 degrees, the outcome can turn deadly in a matter of minutes. This case involved compromised judgment, and the result was heartbreaking.' Boatman is facing a second-degree murder charge and is currently being held on a $75,000 cash bond, according to his arrest report. This is not his first run-in with the law, as Boatman is also a registered sex offender. In June 2019, Boatman was nabbed by the FBI, along with more than 60 others as part of 'Operation Broken Heart' - an initiative designed by Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force taskforce and Attorney General Jeff Landry's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation. Boatman was convicted for the online solicitation of a minor, according to records obtained by Boatman's daughter was the fifth child to die in a hot car in the US this year, according to Kids and Car Safety. At least 1,130 children have died in hot vehicles in the country since 1990, and at least another 75,000 survived with injuries, the non-profit stated. Every year, an average of 38 children die in hot cars and about 88 percent of them are three-year-old or younger, per the statistics. This comes after a one-year-old boy was found dead inside a hot pickup truck in southwest Albuquerque on May 25. Police said the 'very tragic incident' occurred while the child was supposed to be under the supervision of a male relative, who authorities say simply forgot he was there. The child's parents dropped him off around 10.0am leaving him in the care of a young adult relative. But what should have been a routine day turned to horror when that relative left the child in the back seat of his vehicle, parked in the sun with the windows closed. It wasn't until almost six hours later at 5pm that someone realized the baby was missing. Family members contacted the caregiver to ask where the child was, prompting a frantic search - and a heartbreaking discovery. 'They realized the child wasn't inside the home,' Albuquerque Police Department Public Information Officer Gilbert Gallegos said at a press briefing. The child unfortunately died at the scene after family members and emergency personnel performed CPR to try to revive him. Although the official cause of death is pending an autopsy, police say all signs point to heatstroke. The National Weather Service estimates the interior of the parked vehicle could have reached more than 200F even though Albuquerque's high on that day was around 83F.

Watch: Hainault swordsman vows to do ‘ninja stuff'
A man accused of murdering a 14-year-old schoolboy with a Japanese sword said he would 'do some ninja stuff' as he unboxed the weapon. Marcus Arduini Monzo, 37, is on trial accused of murdering Daniel Anjorin, 14, as he walked to school in Hainault, north-east London, on April 30 last year. In footage shown at the Old Bailey, Mr Monzo was filmed removing the weapon from its packaging on April 4 2024, just weeks before the attacks. The self-filmed iPhone video recorded him exclaiming 'wow' and 'freaking sexy' before telling the camera: 'This just came through the post.' He added: 'This is very ninja stuff. I'm sort of obliged to do some ninja stuff.' The footage shows the martial arts enthusiast practising swinging the sword. A ginger cat, which Mr Monzo refers to as 'Wizard', also appears in the footage. Prosecutors previously told the jury that Mr Monzo 'skinned and deboned' a cat before the attacks. In the video, he is wearing a yellow Quiksilver hooded jumper which jurors have previously been told was worn during the attacks. The court heard Mr Monzo purchased two handmade katana swords from Japan for £427.80 on Feb 21, 2024, which were delivered to his home in early April. The Spanish-Brazilian national, from Newham, east London, was charged with murder after being arrested near the scene of Daniel's murder. He is also accused of attacking four others, including two police officers, during a 20-minute rampage. Mr Monzo has denied eight of the 10 charges against him, including murder. The trial heard last week that Mr Monzo believed 'he was in a battle against evil forces' during the attacks and that he had experienced psychotic episodes after taking cannabis. Jurors were told that his mental state had been 'materially altered' by cannabis use and, at the time of the alleged attack, he had 'developed a cannabis-induced fully fledged psychotic episode characterised by reality distortion symptoms'. Tom Little KC, prosecuting, said Mr Monzo was 'informed by his delusional beliefs that he and his family were in mortal danger, and that he was engaged in a battle against evil forces at a time of revelation or Armageddon'. The court was previously told Mr Monzo left his home at 6.30am in his grey Ford Transit work van, which he drove at Donato Iwule, a pedestrian, on Laing Close at 6.51am. Mr Monzo then allegedly exited the vehicle to swing his sword at Mr Iwule, who was able to roll away and escape over a fence. He is accused of then approaching Daniel from behind as he walked to school and then inflicting 'a devastating and unsurvivable chopping injury to the left-hand side of Daniel's face and neck'. Mr Monzo is said to have then attacked Pc Yasmin Margaret Mechem-Whitfield as she pursued him down a series of alleyways, before entering a nearby house where he attacked a couple – Sindy Arias and Henry De Los Rios Polania – in their bedroom. He is then accused of attacking another officer, Insp Moloy Campbell, before being disarmed and detained. In court last month, Mr Monzo denied eight of the 10 charges against him but admitted two counts of having an offensive weapon – a katana sword and a tanto katana sword. The trial continues.
