Why Georgia has one of the easiest schedules in the SEC

The Georgia Bulldogs 2025 schedule has some similarities to 2024's schedule. Their SEC slate is the same except the venues from last season are flipped. Instead of playing several ranked opponents away, the Bulldogs will host them in Athens. Between this and many other factors, Georgia comes into the 2025 season with one of the SEC's easiest schedules. Georgia's schedule is the No. 14 most-difficult in the SEC, according to CBS Sports' Brandon Marcello. This comes a year after Georgia had the toughest schedule in the country. Here are four reasons why Georgia's schedule is easier this season. Georgia had a gauntlet on the road last year, playing against three ranked opponents (Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss) and one in a neutral site (Clemson). However, this season, Georgia only plays three total teams on the road. They play at Tennessee on Sept. 29, Auburn on Oct. 11 and Mississippi State on Nov. 8. The Bulldogs play Georgia Tech at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta this year (was set to be Georgia Tech's turn to host) and Florida in EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, so Georgia plays three road games and two neutral site games. Georgia's home schedule is a gauntlet. Playing against Alabama, Texas, and Ole Miss is not going to be easy, and it threatens Georgia's massive 31-home-game winning streak. However, playing all three of those games in your home stadium is an absolute advantage. Sanford Stadium is the No. 4 hardest stadium in the nation, according to College Football 26. Georgia was victorious on the road against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns last year and the Bulldogs had a fourth quarter lead on the road against the No. 4 Alabama Crimson Tide. Safe to say, Georgia gets a favorable draw in their ranked games. Rounding out the Bulldogs' SEC schedule, they play the Kentucky Wildcats on Oct. 4. With Kentucky finishing 3-9 last year and Mississippi State finishing 2-10, Georgia plays the two worst teams that are projected to be the worst in the SEC. Of course, Kentucky gave Georgia a scare in the Bulldogs' Week 3 road matchup. However, now with the game being at home, Georgia has a much bigger advantage. Mississippi State also played competitively with Georgia in their 2024 matchup, with Georgia winning 41-31. However, Georgia outgained Mississippi 605 total yards to 385 total yards. As long as Georgia can limit the turnovers, the Bulldogs should cruise in that game. In 2024, the Bulldogs had a tough nonconference slate, playing against No. 14 Clemson (who would go on to win the ACC championship) along with Tennessee Tech, UMass, and of course, Georgia Tech. This year, the Bulldogs play against Marshall, Austin Peay, and Charlotte this year. Marshall is ranked No. 94 in ESPN's FPI (Football Power Index), while Charlotte is ranked No. 116. Austin Peay isn't ranked in FPI because it is a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) team and FPI only rates the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams. Of course, Georgia will still have to play Georgia Tech, and the Yellow Jackets are progressing as a team. However, Georgia's relatively easy schedule should set them up nicely for that matchup. The Dawgs play Charlotte the week before facing Georgia Tech.

Bargain store staple set to close more stores as it launches 50% off sales amid retail apocalypse

Shoppers are rushing to a Goodwill Store & Donation Center in Tennessee before it closes its doors for good. Memphis Goodwill Inc. has decided to shutter the store located off the Austin Peay Highway on August 2. The location has begun liquidation sales and is offering up to 50 percent off all clearance items until July 26. The chain is not planning to offer special discounts on any of its new items. The company thanked its customers for their patronage at the Austin Peay store in a statement last week. 'Your generosity has truly changed lives in our community,' the company wrote. They concluded their statement by suggesting shoppers visit their stores in Millington and Stage for any 'future needs.' The news of the Goodwill shutter comes in the midst of a growing retail apocalypse, which is forecast to result in 15,000 store closures across the US this year. Goodwill, which was established in 1902, is a thrift store which sells donated clothing and household items. The retailer operates over 3,000 stores in North America. Despite surviving inflation and price hikes from tariffs, the chain has been closing several stores, including 13 locations in California. 'It became necessary to close a few store locations due to their size and operational limitations where store revenues were not enough to cover operational and personnel costs,' said Goodwill spokesperson Rodney Scearce. Goodwill's closure amount is nowhere near the number of Family Dollar and 99 Cents Only locations that have shuttered in recent years, however. Family Dollar closed around 600 stores in the first of 2024, some of nearly 1,000 locations the chain plans to shutter for store updates. Customers expressed concern that the store could also close more locations after Dollar Tree agreed to sell it to investors for $1 billion in a deal that was finalized earlier this month. Discount variety stores are not the only crumbling businesses. Retailers known for attire like Macy's and Torrid have been struggling amid mass closures. Macy's is finishing up the first 66 of its planned 150 store shutters later this year. While Macy's closures are mainly for restructuring and to get finances back on track, Torrid is closing up to 180 locations as a way to help it become a 'more digitally-led business.' Store closures have continued to gather pace and remain on track to far surpass the number of stores that shut down last year. 5,822 stores closed in the first half of the year alone, a new report from Coresight Research revealed. By comparison, 7,325 brick-and-mortar stores were closed in the whole of last year. Coresight predicted that as many as 15,000 stores would shut up shop in 2025.

Reece Britt set to join Tennessee's coaching staff

Tennessee announced the hiring of men's golf assistant coach Reece Britt on Wednesday. The Maryville, Tennessee native played collegiate golf at Austin Peay, recording four top 25 finishes as a senior during the 2024-25 season. Britt was also a five-year letterman at Webb School in Knoxville, Tennessee. He recorded three career top 10 finishes in TSSAA Division II State Championships, including finishing in eighth-place as an eighth-grader in 2016. "Reece recently completed an outstanding college career at Austin Peay before joining us in the coaching ranks," Tennessee head coach Brennan Webb said. "Reece brings an incredible level of enthusiasm and passion to the program that will be extremely beneficial to all of us. His love for The Vols is unmatched and I can't wait to watch him grow in his new position." Britt is the second assistant coach hired by Webb during the offseason. Former PGA TOUR winner Derek Ernst was hired by the Vols in June. More: Tennessee golf hires PGA TOUR winner Follow Vols Wire on Facebook and X (formerly Twitter).

Ranking Georgia football's 2025 home games from worst to first

The Georgia Bulldogs have a great home schedule for the 2025 season after having a pretty pedestrian home slate in 2024. Georgia's top home games are against Ole Miss, Alabama and Texas. Georgia fans have a lot to of interesting games to look forward to in 2025. The Bulldogs play three non-Power Four opponents and four SEC foes at home. Georgia enters the 2025 college football season on a 31 game home winning streak, which is the longest in the country. Georgia's last home loss came to the South Carolina Gamecocks in double overtime on Oct. 12, 2019. Since Georgia's last home loss, the Bulldogs have won two SEC championships and two national championships. However, Georgia will have a tough time going undefeated at home in 2025. Ranking Georgia football's 2025 home games from worst to best 7. Austin Peay Governors Austin Peay is Georgia's only Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) opponent this fall. The Governors lost to Georgia 45-0 in Athens back in 2018. There's no reason to think this game will be competitive. With a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff, Georgia fans in attendance will likely be battling the heat. Austin Peay is Georgia's second straight non-Power Four opponent to open the season, but doe not come with the excitement of the season opener. Fans tuning in on TV may not like the channel selection for this one either. Date: Sept. 6 at 3:30 p.m. (all times listed at ET)TV: ESPN+/SEC Network+ 6. Charlotte 49ers The Charlotte 49ers have just one bowl appearance in their short school history (since 2015). The 49ers play in the American conference and likely won't be competitive with Georgia, but it will be UGA's last home game of the season, so it will be celebration for Georgia's senior class. As an added bonus, we like the 12:45 p.m. kickoff time for two reasons. First of all, Georgia plays Georgia Tech on Friday, so it gives the Bulldogs a bit of extra rest. Secondly, Georgia fans will be able to get some sunlight on what is likely to be a cool November day. Date: Nov. 22 at 12:45 SEC Network 5. Marshall Thundering Herd Marshall is the best of Georgia's three non-Power Four opponents this season. Georgia plays Marshall in the season opener, so it is must-watch action for Bulldog fans to see how the 2025 edition of UGA looks. Marshall won at Notre Dame back in 2022 under current head coach Charles Huff. The Thundering Herd are coming off a strong 10-3 season where they won the Sun Belt Conference championship. However, Marshall opted out of the Independence Bowl after too many players entered the transfer portal. Marshall is capable of making things interesting with Georgia in Week 1. Date: Aug. 30 at 3:30 ESPN 4. Kentucky Wildcats Now we're getting into the good games. Georgia plays Kentucky in their second SEC home game of the season. Georgia plays the Wildcats a week after Alabama, so the Bulldogs could be dealing with a big game hangover. Kentucky always smells like a trap for Georgia and 2025 is no different. Kentucky has given Georgia a lot of trouble over the years, but Georgia has won 15 straight games over the Wildcats. Georgia fans should expect another physical, low-scoring battle against the Wildcats. Date: Oct. 4 at noonTV: ESPN or ABC 3. Ole Miss Rebels Georgia fell at Ole Miss 28-10 last season after dominating the Rebels in Athens during the a convincing 52-17 win in 2023. Ole Miss back up quarterback Austin Simmons shredded the Georgia defense on one drive after Jaxson Dart briefly left in the 2024 matchup. Simmons is expected to start for coach Lane Kiffin and the Rebels in 2024. Georgia-Ole Miss should be a very entertaining game. Both teams will look very different than their 2024 versions as both teams had at least eight players picked (Ole Miss 8, Georgia 13) in the 2025 NFL draft. Date: Oct. 18 at flex kickoff time (afternoon or night)TV: To be determined 2. Alabama Crimson Tide The Alabama game is technically Georgia's only scheduled home night game of the season (both Texas and Ole Miss are flex games), but we'd be surprised if the Bulldogs don't get at least two night home games. Last season, Alabama beat Georgia 41-34 after the Bulldogs mounted a furious comeback. The 2025 edition of Georgia-Alabama will feature two new quarterbacks and no Nick Saban, but the Dawgs and Crimson Tide are still two of the top programs in college football. Both schools are looking to make a name for themselves in 2025 and as usual a lot will be on the line when Georgia and Alabama meet. Georgia and Alabama have combined to win five of 11 national championships during the College Football Playoff era (they faced off in two national title games during this time span) and 10 of the last 11 SEC championships (they met in three of those 10 SEC championship games). Date: Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. TV: ABC 1. Texas Longhorns Arch Manning and Texas will travel to Athens for the first ever time as a member of the SEC. Texas is projected to be the preseason No. 1 team. The Longhorns played Georgia twice in 2024 with the Dawgs winning both meetings including the 2024 SEC championship. Both teams are expected to contend for the national championship and the winner of the Georgia-Texas game could clinch a berth in the SEC championship. The Georgia-Texas game has a little more intrigue than the Georgia-Alabama game because Georgia has never played Texas in Sanford Stadium and because it is later in the season. The Georgia-Texas game could also effectively eliminate the loser from the College Football Playoff depending on how the season shakes out. If we could only go to one UGA home game this season, then we'd pick the Georgia-Texas game. Date: Nov. 15 at flex kickoff time (afternoon or night)TV: To be determined

Georgia football's 2025 schedule after latest kickoff time announcements

We are less than three months away from the Georgia Bulldogs' 2025 season opener against the Marshall Thundering Herd on Aug. 30. The Bulldogs will have a new feel this fall with redshirt junior Gunner Stockton projected to start at quarterback. Stockton and Georgia have a manageable start to the 2025 season. The Bulldogs open the year with back-to-back home games against non-Power Four opponents in Marshall and Austin Peay. Georgia's first real test comes in Week 3 as the Dawgs hit the road to play the Tennessee Volunteers. Advertisement Following a recent announcement from the Southeastern Conference, we now know the kickoff time (or approximate time) for all 12 of Georgia's regular season games. The Bulldogs start the season with three straight 3:30 p.m. ET games before hosting the Alabama Crimson Tide at home for a night game (7:30 p.m. ET) in Week 5. Overall, the Bulldogs have three noon games (includes one 12:45 p.m. kickoff), five 3:30 p.m. games, two night games and a pair of flex games (could be afternoon or night) this fall. Georgia's schedule features great home games against Texas, Ole Miss and Alabama. The Dawgs have a manageable road slate with contests at Tennessee, Auburn and Mississippi State.
