Italian belly dancer is arrested in Egypt for 'outraging public decency' by 'exposing ample parts of her body'
Linda Martino, 32, was held after videos of her scantily clad shows were spotted online by officials in Cairo where she lives and works.
Linda, who has more than two million followers on her Instagram profile, is in custody facing accusations of 'outraging public decency and values of family and society'.
Videos on her social media show her shaking her hips snake like while pouting and thrusting her cleavage towards an appreciative audience in a Cairo venue.
According to reports in Italy, prosecutors in the Egyptian capital say that in the clips she 'deliberately wore provocative clothing and performed dance moves with sexual allusions'.
Egypt is currently ruled by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi who came to power in 2014 and there have been concerns over human rights and political freedoms.
Fourteen belly dancers have also been arrested in the past two years as the country cracks down on exotic performing.
On her Instagram – which has dozens of clips of her and photographs in skimpy outfits - Linda describes herself as a 'belly dancer' and adds: 'More than you can handle.'
Although born in Egypt, Linda married an Italian businessman and moved to Europe where she lived in Switzerland before returning and she has dual citizenship,
One of the charges she is being held on relates to her social media profile which says, 'contains obscene content and incitement to debauchery'.
It adds that 'in the clips she wore indecent clothing and exposed ample parts of her body deliberately, in clear violation of public morality and values of society'.
Linda was arrested on June 22 as she tried to leave Cairo airport for a tour in Dubai and has already made one court appearance and her request for bail was denied.
She told the hearing: 'Belly dancing is an art, I did not incite debauchery or vice, my performances are not a crime.
'What you see on my social media is art, it's an artistic performance. Some of the clips have been manipulated to present me in a bad light.
'I have all the licences and paperwork needed to perform in a professional capacity and the videos that are on my social media are all normal.
'It is a dance routine that does not cross any boundaries and does not offend public morality.'
Linda moved to Italy in 2011 after marrying an Italian businessman called Domenico Martino, and they initially lived in the northern city of Cremona before moving to Switzerland.

Italian authorities are aware of the case and have informed her ex-husband of the situation and are trying to arrange a consular visit.
No-one from the prosecutor's office in Cairo was imemditely available for comment.

Stevie Nicks cancels tour dates just days before first gig due to injury
Stevie Nicks has been forced to postpone a series of upcoming tour dates after sustaining a shoulder fracture that requires time to heal. The 76-year-old music icon took to Instagram to share the news directly with fans, confirming that concerts scheduled for August and September will be rescheduled. 'Due to a recent injury resulting in a fractured shoulder that will require recovery time, Stevie Nicks' scheduled concerts in August and September will be rescheduled,' she wrote. 'Please note that October dates will be unaffected.' The Fleetwood Mac legend added that the tour is expected to resume on Wednesday, October 1 in Portland, Oregon. 'Stevie looks forward to seeing everyone soon and apologizes to the fans for this inconvenience,' the message concluded. Fans who have already purchased tickets are advised to retain them, as they will be valid for the rescheduled shows. Specific details about new dates and venues will be made available at the original point of purchase. Nicks had initially announced a nine-date tour across the US and Canada back in April, with performances slated for August and October. Due to overwhelming demand, additional shows were later added, including a launch night at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on August 8, as well as stops in Hollywood, Florida and Detroit in September. October was set to bring her to cities including Portland, Sacramento, Atlantic City, Charlotte, and Hartford. The news comes after Nicks postponed her Glasgow gig at short notice after having minor surgery for a leg injury. The Dreams singer was due to appear at the OVO Hydro earlier this month but organisers said she needs a 'few days of recovery' following a medical procedure. Even more recently, Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham officially confirmed the re-release of their 1973 duo album Buckingham Nicks. The famously acrimonious former bandmates caused fans to 'crash out' with a matching pair of social media posts in June, and then the appearance of a mysterious billboard a few days later. More Trending Many took to social media to speculate that the pair might finally be on speaking terms again after famously feuding for decades. Then, they informed the world that a re-release of Buckingham Nicks – which they recorded before joining Fleetwood Mac – will be available September 19. For now, fans will need to wait just a little longer to see the mystical frontwoman return to the stage. The silver lining? Nicks plans to be back on the road this autumn. Got a story? 'Worst show on TV' is ending and its biggest critics are full of regret
And Just Like That… Sex and The City fans will no longer be tormented by its divisive revival. Creator Michael Patrick King has confirmed that And Just Like That, which has regularly been branded 'the worst show on TV',is coming to an end after its third and current season. In a statement shared on Instagram, King wrote: 'And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex and the City universe is coming to an end. 'While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. 'Along with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys and Sarah Aubrey, we decided to end the popular series this year with a two-part finale and extended the original series order from 10 episodes to 12. 'SJP and I held off announcing the news until now because we didn't want the word 'final' to overshadow the fun of watching the season. 'It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years.' Despite the relentless backlash and calls for it to be over, viewers who have spent three seasons 'hate-watching' are still absolutely crushed. And Just Like That hater Tom Zohar wrote on X: 'PLEASE I DIDN'T MEAN ALL THE THINGS I SAID ABOUT YOU I LOVE YOU PLEASE DON'T LEAVE.' Another fan who loved to hate-watch, Felipe, tweeted: 'conflicted because the show is objectively terrible but i'd still watch 10 seasons of it.' Pop Culture Instagram account Deuxmoi commented: 'See what happens when you complain!!!!!' Others said they 'felt sick' and were 'devastated' but there was also a large sector of the And Just Like That audience who breathed a sigh of relief. Sex and The City was an instant movement when it launched in 1998, making Carrie Bradshaw (Parker), Miranda Hobbes, (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte Yorke (Kristin Davis) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) four of the most loved women of the decade. Their influence has hardly faltered almost 30 years later. In 2021 the girls were back – well, without Samantha due to Cattrall's fall out with the rest of the cast – in And Just Like That, the reboot so many longed for but never thought would happen. The excitement was unrivalled but soon fizzled out when Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte were criticised for being unrecognisable to the women fans adored and watching Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez) felt like a punishment when we'd all been so patient. The latest series was praised for getting back on track but it also came with bizarre misfires. In one episode, Lisa Todd Wexley's (Nicole Ari Parker) dad died from a stroke. Fans noted that she claimed he'd already died back in season one. Producers did explain the issue, insisting the father mentioned in season one was her stepfather but fans weren't satisfied with the response. Parker shared a series of iconic Carrie moments and said the columnist with the wardrobe worth millions 'dominated my professional heartbeat for 27 years. I think I have loved her most of all.' Davis, who starred as Charlotte for 27 years, wrote: 'I am profoundly sad. I love our whole beautiful cast and crew. 400 artisans working so hard on our show with deep love. 'And to our loyal fans, we love you forever and ever.' And Just Like That is available to stream on NOW. Got a story? Prosecutors have signed a final indictment requesting the 26-year-old to be charged in criminal court. The case stems from an alleged incident on February 25, 2023. According to Le Parisien, a 24-year-old woman told police she met Hakimi on Instagram in January of that year. After a month of exchanges, he reportedly ordered her an Uber to his home in Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife and children were away on holiday. Once inside, the woman claims Hakimi kissed her mouth and breasts through her clothes, despite her protests. She alleged he then assaulted her without consent. According to her account, she managed to push him away with her foot before fleeing and texting a friend to pick her up. She went to a police station the same day to 'make a statement of rape,' though she initially declined to file a formal complaint. Messages she later provided to investigators reportedly showed her distress following the encounter. Achraf Hakimi shows what he is made of at PSG training On March 3, 2023, Hakimi was charged with rape by an investigating judge and placed under judicial supervision after being held in custody. He has consistently denied the allegations. The footballer, currently holidaying in Puerto Rico with former teammate Kylian Mbappé, previously claimed the case was a plot against him. 'The truth is that when you are successful and things are going well, you become an easy target for certain people and that taught me that you can't trust many people around you,' Hakimi said this January in a interview. 'They wanted to blackmail me and that's why we filed a complaint and it's going well. The justice system handled things rather well.' His lawyer, Fanny Colin, slammed the prosecution's latest move. 'These requisitions are incomprehensible and senseless in light of the evidence in the case,' she told Le Parisien. 'It establishes the plaintiff's lies, particularly through the psychological assessments conducted on her. 'Achraf Hakimi and I remain as calm as when the proceedings began. 'If these requests were to be followed, we would obviously pursue all avenues of appeal.'
