Local superfans gearing up for Super Bowl
(WKBN) — It's Super Bowl Sunday, and many in the Valley are watching the screen, either at home or in public.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philidelphia Eagles are back in the Super Bowl after their match-up in 2023.
Last year, First News spoke with Chiefs superfan and Farrell resident Mike Borsa when the Chiefs were in the Big Game. A year later, he's celebrating a historical consecutive three-year appearance and maybe a win.
'It's incredible even making it to the Super Bowl three times in a row. It's insane,' Borsa said. 'Really excited about this and going in with a positive attitude.'
Since last year, he's added more memorabilia to his collection — another trophy and he's framed each jersey he's worn for Super Bowl wins. Borsa and his friends will be celebrating at home.
'[We'll] go pick up some chicken wings from Nancy's Tavern in West Middlesex. Everyone should be here about 5:30 p.m. and just from there on out, be playing some music and having fun leading up to the game,' Borsa said.
On the other side of the matchup is Eagles superfan Ray Marrow, an Austintown resident. He's been a fan since he was a teenager when he was compared to Randall Cunningham, a longtime quarterback for the Eagles.
'They said I played like him, and I believe when he came up, it was like 1985-86. So, when he came up, that's when I became an Eagles fan — a die-hard Eagles fan,' Marrow said.
Marrow says this year he believes the Eagles are going to take home the win and by a big margin.
'Oh, I'm very excited. This is our second time playing the same team a second time. I can't give you a score, but I think it's going to be like 20 or more. We're going to surprise the nation,' Marrow said.
Marrow is hosting an Eagles watch party at Club 221 in Youngstown and brought all his green jerseys for people to wear in support.
Each superfan has their own traditions planned if their team wins.

And now that the tour is over, the source said Taylor is "genuinely excited to have the time and flexibility to show up for Travis more consistently." "This fall will be completely different," the source continued. "Taylor plans to be at as many of his games as possible. They've both had such demanding schedules for so long, so having this stretch of time where things aren't quite as chaotic feels like a welcome change." The source added that it's also "a chance for them to settle into more of a routine" and that Taylor and Travis are "both really happy about that." Aww! Can't wait to see her at the games! Defenders' rout of Panthers in UFL title game proves who the true MVP is
At the start of the fourth quarter, DC Defenders QB Jordan Ta'amu stood among his teammates as they chanted "M-V-P! M-V-P!" before sealing a 58-34 rout of the Michigan Panthers in the 2025 UFL Championship Game on Saturday. Ta'amu's evening was made that much sweeter with newly minted UFL MVP, Offensive Player of the Year and All-UFL QB Bryce Perkins standing on the opposite sideline. Ta'amu, the league's leader in passing touchdowns, continued what is the most impressive season by a passer in UFL history with 390 passing yards, completing 75% of his passes (21 of 28) for four touchdowns — in three quarters. At halftime, Ta'amu had completed 16 of 20 passes for 320 yards, as everything the Defenders did offensively worked. His counterpart, Perkins, finished with 338 passing yards, four touchdowns and one interception, completing 60% of his throws (21 of 35). Perkins completed eight of 13 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown in the first half. "I'd rather have a championship with the team than my own individual honors," Ta'amu said. Here are a couple of my biggest takeaways from Saturday's tilt. Unstoppable force vs. even more unstoppable force Heading into this matchup, the Defenders knew they had a large advantage: their No. 1-ranked passing offense against the Panthers' dead-last passing defense. Instead of outsmarting themselves, Coach of the Year Shannon Harris and Assistant Coach of the Year Fred Kaiss dialed up an offensive game plan that led to the Defenders putting up more than 500 yards of total offense and 50 points in three quarters against the USFL Conference champions. Before the game began, Michigan likely thought it had its own psychological and statistical advantages. The Panthers beat the Defenders by double digits, 38-14, in Week 6 of the regular season. That win was powered by a rushing attack that put up 213 yards and a Michigan defense that allowed just 250 total yards in the mid-season rout. While the Panthers' rushing offense didn't miss the bus this time around, their defense got left in the dust. Against the Defenders' big-play offense, the Panthers were left without an ability to sit on the ball, run it or play complimentary football. The Defenders ultimately turned the title game into a track meet and forced Michigan to keep up. The Defenders put up 379 yards and 37 points in the first half, including 31 points in the second quarter alone. Even with offensive success that led to 19 first-half points, the Panthers' defense could not give its offense any help, allowing 18 first downs on the Defenders' first 40 plays. Wideout Jaydon Mickens caught six passes for 132 yards and a touchdown en route to joining an exclusive club of men who have won both a Super Bowl and a UFL championship. Aside from Perkins, Malik Turner played best among Panthers players with 10 catches for a UFL record 168 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Both teams combined to score 92 points and put up more than 1,000 yards of offense. Defenders take over Michigan must've felt good about its chance of winning because of how difficult it was to survive the playoffs and punch its ticket to St. Louis. The Panthers beat the three-time defending spring football champion Birmingham Stallions for the first time; Birmingham won the USFL titles in 2022 and 2023 and the inaugural UFL title in 2024. The Stallions have been the standard every other franchise has been chasing since spring football returned in 2022. The Defenders would've known that too when they pulled off an upset win against Skip Holtz's squad in Week 1. With wins against the three best teams in the sport over the past two years, including two in the 2025 playoffs, it's fair to say that the Defenders are not just the 2025 champions. With Ta'amu, Harris and an explosive offensive identity that makes them a threat in every game they play, the Defenders are the team everyone else will be chasing in 2026. After a long Super Rugby season, a final that seemed inevitable
Associated Press WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — After 77 matches in the regular season and five more in the playoffs, Super Rugby has thrown up the final that seemed obvious since the tournament began. The Hamilton-based Chiefs who finished the regular season in first place will face the second-placed Crusaders in Christchurch on Saturday. The Crusaders gained top-seeding when the Chiefs lost to the Blues in the first playoff round and will host the final for a record eighth time. Through the ups and downs of the season, the Chiefs and Crusaders clearly established themselves as the two best teams in Super Rugby with matching 11-3 records in the normal season. The Crusaders beat the Queensland Reds and Auckland-based Blues in the playoffs while the Chiefs lost to the Blues and beat the ACT Brumbies after advancing to the semifinals as the top-ranked quarterfinal loser. After their 21-14 win over the Blues on Saturday, the Crusaders will defend a 31-0 record in home playoffs in the final. The Chiefs will be playing in the final for the third-straight year after losing to the Crusaders in 2023 and the Blues in 2024. The Crusaders will attempt to win the title for the 13th time in full Super Rugby competitions — they won twice in regional tournaments during the COVID pandemic. The Chiefs will attempt to win for the third time, the first since 2013. Penney's redemption Last year, in their first season under head coach Rob Penney, the Crusaders won only four matches in one of their worst-ever seasons. The Crusaders' management decided to keep Penney on and this year he has led them to the final. When asked how he would celebrate the semifinal win over the Blues, Penney replied 'very quietly. The job is not done." 'I'm excited to be where we're at and just rapt we've got another week. The organization has got such a great history and to be able to be a small part of the team getting to this part is wonderful.' The Crusaders showed all the grit that has been part of their winning culture when they held out the Blues through more than 40 phases close to their goal-line in the dying minutes of Friday's match. Backrower Christian Lio-Willie finally won the turnover that ended the match in the 85th minute. 'The last few minutes was just heart and soul,' Penney said. Defense coach Matt Todd 'has done great work with the D which has been building all year. 'The boys dug deep and showed how much it means to them and how much they care about this place. And they wanted to get another week which is just such a joy.' Chiefs extend Brumbies' playoff woes After a tight first half, the Chiefs won with some comfort thanks to flyhalf Damian McKenzie who kicked six penalties and two conversions for 22 points. After leading 19-17, the Chiefs scored 18 unanswered points to close out the match. 'It was an outstanding performance from the lads,' McKenzie said. 'The Brumbies came out of the blocks fast as we knew they would and I liked the way we were really composed and stuck to our game.' McKenzie kept the ball in front of the Chiefs' forwards while the Brumbies suffered a major blow when Wallabies flyhalf Noah Lolesio failed a head injury assessment in the 11th minute. Once again, the Brumbies fell just short of the title game after reaching the semifinals in each of the last three years. Australian teams are now 0-21 in playoff matches in New Zealand. 'There's frustration because it's the same story as last year,' Larkham said. 'We've had this story for more than two years in a row now.
