U.S. provides ₱13.8 million aid to boost PH flood relief operations
The United States government has pledged approximately ₱13.8 million in aid to support the Philippine government's ongoing response to recent flooding caused by successive storms and the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat). In a statement on Friday, the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines said the assistance will be delivered through the United Nations World Food Program (WFP). 'This funding, provided through the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration, will support government relief operations by facilitating the transport of food to flood-affected communities in Metro Manila, Northern and Central Luzon, and Calabarzon,' the Embassy said. Monsoon rains intensified by multiple tropical cyclones over the past week have left at least 30 people dead, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). Earlier this week, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. said the Philippines was seeking U.S. assistance in distributing over three million prepositioned relief packs located at Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) sites across the country. 'We are tracking the devastation caused by the storms and floods and are deeply concerned for all those affected,' U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines MaryKay Carlson said. 'The U.S. Embassy's interagency team is coordinating closely with the Philippine government and the WFP to ensure aid reaches those in need,' she added.

Remains of OFW killed in Iran-Israel missile strike return home
The remains of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Leah Mosquera, who died from injuries sustained during an Iranian missile strike in Israel, arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday. Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac confirmed the repatriation in a Facebook post. Mosquera was critically injured when a missile struck a residential building in Rehovot, south of Tel Aviv, on June 15 amid escalating tensions between Israel and Iran. She was admitted to Shamir Medical Center and placed in intensive care but passed away on July 13. Two other Filipino workers were also injured in the incident but were released from the hospital after receiving treatment. Cacdac earlier paid tribute to Mosquera's dedication, calling her a symbol of the quiet heroism and strength of Filipino migrant workers. 'Her dedication and quiet heroism, we see the strength and sacrifices of our overseas Filipino workers who carry the hopes and dreams of their families, their communities, and our nation,' he said. The DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will provide full assistance to Mosquera's family.

DILG Chief Remulla Backs Off Humor After Sara Duterte Slams ‘Unprofessional' Posts
Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has dialed back his online banter, saying 'no jokes for now' after being publicly criticized by Vice President Sara Duterte for his casual social media messaging during government announcements. Duterte, in a chance interview during her stay in The Hague, said she was surprised by the DILG's tone on official platforms, stressing that 'government must be professional.' Her remarks were seen as a direct hit on Remulla's informal approach, especially after the department joked about being 'too full from a good meal' before releasing suspension updates. Responding on social media, Remulla took a more serious tone while announcing class and government work suspensions, stating in Filipino, 'I won't joke for now. Even the vice president criticized me.' He added, 'No more bargains. My list was right this time.' Despite earlier backlash from netizens and missed areas in suspension lists, Remulla defended his style, saying it worked during his time as Cavite governor. President Marcos Jr. also came to his defense, saying that what matters most is that the message reaches the people effectively.
