Polavaram diaphragm wall will be ready by December: Water Resources Minister

VIJAYAWADA: Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu on Wednesday said the diaphragm wall of the Polavaram Project would be completed by December. In a video conference, the minister reviewed the progress of the Polavaram Project and its Right Main Canal.
The Officials said that diaphragm wall construction is 40% complete, with 25,238 square meters built and 130 of the required 372 critical panels finished.
The officials assured that work would continue uninterrupted during the flood season, with necessary precautions in place.
The Gap-1 Earth-cum-Rock Fill Dam is expected to be completed by March 2026, while Gap-2 dam work will begin once designs are approved by the Central Water Commission and the Polavaram Project Authority.
Nimmala Ramanaidu directed the officials to complete the Right Main Canal works swiftly to ensure Godavari water reaches North Andhra by 2025, as targeted by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for approving the establishment of a semiconductor manufacturing unit in the state. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Modi, gave its nod for Advanced System in Package Technologies (ASIP) to set up the facility in collaboration with APACT Co. Ltd, South Korea. The unit, which will have an annual capacity of 96 million units, will manufacture advanced chip packaging for various applications, including mobile phones, set-top boxes, automotive ECUs, and consumer electronics. This development is expected to boost India's backend semiconductor manufacturing capacity and foster a complete electronics ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister Naidu took to social media to thank the Prime Minister, saying, 'Grateful to Hon'ble PM Shri @narendramodi ji for approving the ASIP Technologies-APACT (S. Korea) semiconductor facility in Andhra Pradesh. With 96M units/year in advanced chip packaging for mobiles, set-top boxes, automotive ECUs & consumer electronics, this will enhance India's backend semiconductor manufacturing capacity and foster a complete electronics ecosystem in AP.' Minister for HRD and IT, Nara Lokesh, also welcomed the development, stating, 'Semiconductor manufacturing comes to AP, driven by a double engine sarkar! I am grateful to the Hon'ble Prime Minister @narendramodi ji for sanctioning the facility'.

He directed officials to take all precautionary measures to ensure the smooth implementation of the scheme without any hiccups. With heavy passenger footfall expected after the launch of the free bus travel scheme, the traffic management should be efficient, capacity should be scaled up accordingly, and people's safety should remain a priority. Passengers should be treated politely, and there should be no inconvenience caused anywhere, he said. The Chief Minister also stressed the need to collect regular feedback from passengers regarding the free bus travel scheme, so that improvements can be made accordingly. He also said better services should be provided through a service outsourcing agency.
