Why Fans Shouldn't Get Too Excited About 'Awesome' Taylor Swift Update
A supposed new update surrounding 's original manuscript and directorial debut set Swifties screaming on social media today, but all is not as it seems.
Entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider reported yesterday, Aug. 7, that there was movement on the front of the singer's feature film directorial debut, closing in on three years after news first broke that Searchlight Pictures had signed on to produce her original screenplay.
"Taylor is a once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller,' Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said at the time (Greenbaum has since transitioned to Disney). 'It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.'
According to Sneider, playwright and screenwriter Alice Birch was recently brought on board for the project, reportedly to help rewrite Swift's script.
"Allowing more experienced writers to rewrite scripts is standard practice in Hollywood," Sneider wrote. "I'm told that the [sic] Birch is working closely with Swift and 'tailoring' the project to her creative vision."
Fans on social media were largely thrilled by the news, with words like "awesome" and "amazing" thrown around, while another said they "can't wait" to see the final product. However, our sources at Searchlight confirm that the news is not true, and Birch is not involved. Parade has also reached out to Birch's rep for comment.
While details about this film's plot remain under wraps, Swift did once share with fans, "I think I will always want to tell human stories, about human emotion. I never say never, but I can't imagine myself like filming an action sequence. If it happens one day, honestly, like that'll be funny character growth, but at this point I could see it going in a more comedic, irreverent place.'
She added, while in conversation at the Toronot International Film Festival in 2022, 'I don't always see myself always telling stories about extreme guttural heartbreak at your most formative age that really sort of debilitates you emotionally for years and then you have to develop the scar tissue in order to move on with your life, and then like limp your way to your typewriter, write a novel about it. I think I've done that.'Why Fans Shouldn't Get Too Excited About 'Awesome' Taylor Swift Update first appeared on Parade on Aug 8, 2025

Amazon Deals of the Day: I Found a Discount on Taylor Swift's Album-Reveal Headphones
Amazon sells a vast array of products, with new ones arriving daily across multiple categories, including home essentials, tech gadgets and furniture. Lucky for us, the retail giant loves cutting prices as much as it loves adding new products. But deciding which offers are worth grabbing (and which aren't) is a full-time job, so we did all the heavy lifting, hand-picking the top markdowns from the bunch. Today, we spotted the headphones that Taylor Swift just wore in the announcement for her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, at a nice discount. We also found the Anker Soundcore portable speaker for over 30% off. And finally, the Magic Bullet is only $5 more than its record-low price. Unless you're living under a rock, you know that Taylor Swift just announced her 12th studio album "The Life of a Showgirl" on football star Travis Kelce's podcast. But what you might've overlooked are the headphones she was wearing as she revealed the blurred-out cover art album. These are the Sony MDR7506 headphones and they've actually been around since the 90s. But they prove to be a great pair of vintage headphones. It uses neodymium magnets and 40-millimeter drivers to produce excellent sound. I mean, why else would Taylor Swift be rocking them? These wired headphones have an almost 10-foot cord, so you can still move around without having to unplug. Swifties, it's your chance to grab Swift's headphones at a discount. Normally listed for $110, you can score $10 off the headphones, bringing them down to $100. It's not the best deal ever, but it lets you twin with Taylor for just $100. A reliable speaker can make a huge difference to your life, especially one that you can take on the go. The Anker Soundcore 2 is exactly that, it even previously took home the CNET Editors' Choice award. We love it because it delivers higher than average sound quality, especially for the price. It is also water-resistant and has strong battery life, perfect to bring along on any adventure. There's also a built-in microphone for speakerphone calls. Plus, it can go up to reasonably high volumes before it starts to distort, something we don't usually see for speakers in this price range. This affordable speaker retails for $45. But thanks to a limited-time 35% discount, you'll pay just $29. That's a price you can't beat, plus it's only $1 more than the lowest price of the year. Having a blender to make smoothies, sauces and more is essential. But an easier way is by using the Magic Bullet Blender. This 11-piece set is compact and made for fast and easy food prep. It is made with a high-torque power base and stainless steel blades, meaning it can handle all sorts of ingredients. The blender also comes with cups, lids and to-go accessories to help make it easy to serve and store what you made. It's lightweight and easy to clean, no hassle required. This blender set is normally 50 bucks. But thanks to a 30% discount, you can pick one up for $35, only $5 more than the all-time low price. With so many deals on Amazon, deciding which ones are worth your money can be difficult. But CNET combs through what the world's largest online retailer has to offer each day and gathers the best deals for you to check out.

The 35-year-old wrapped her record-breaking Eras Tour in December, which was the highest-grossing concert tour in history. Xavi Torrent/TAS24/Getty Images for TAS Rights Management What To Know On August 12, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon shared a segment of Swift's 2021 interview on their official Instagram and TikTok accounts. In the clip, she tells host Jimmy Fallon that she has "fun" teasing her fans, affectionately known as Swifties. "I started to realize that it wasn't just me that had fun with this, that they had fun with it too, and I should never have learned that because then I couldn't stop," Swift said. "And then all I started thinking was, 'How do I hint at things?' Like, 'How far is too far in advance? Can I hint at something three years in advance? Can I even plan things out that far? I think I'm going to try to do it!'" Swift added: "The first time we did a crazy video like that was a video called 'Look What You Made Me Do,' and I started playing with doing nods to former musical eras I've been in in my career and all kinds of weird stuff for them to just go through the video and be like, 'That over there! What's that? What's that? What's that? Does this connect to that? What does that mean?'" "I do that!" Fallon said, to which she replied, "Really?" "Yes! I did that with Folklore," he shared. "I think that it is perfectly reasonable for people to be normal music fans and to have a normal relationship to music, but if you want to go down a rabbit hole with us, come along," Swift said. "The water's great, jump in. We're all mad here." At the time of publication, The Tonight Show's Instagram post racked up 3.1 million views and 167,000 likes. On TikTok, it had an additional 1.5 million views and 212,600 likes. The "Cruel Summer" artist is known for plotting Easter eggs, or hidden messages, in her music videos, lyrics, clothing and more. For The Life of a Showgirl, fans pointed out many of these Easter eggs online. On August 12, 2024, exactly one year before Swift's album announcement, she was photographed in an orange and mint green miniskirt and cropped jacket—which matches the color palette of the album, X user @CourtneySong_ shared on the social media platform. In October, the 14-time Grammy Award winner posted a video to her Instagram and TikTok standing in front of section A12 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. X user @corneliastagain called her "diabolical" for the move, which seemingly hinted at the August 12th announcement for her 12th studio album. As Swiftie @lexs_version said: "TS12 was basically slapping us in the face, [and] we had no idea."
