Spain's HBX slides around 20% after full-year guidance trim

Reuters30-07-2025
July 30 (Reuters) - Shares in Spanish travel technology firm HBX Group (HBX.MC), opens new tab slid 20.3% at the open on Wednesday and were on track for their worst day ever, after the group revised its full-year guidance as a result of the macroeconomic backdrop and a weaker U.S. dollar.
The company downgraded its expected 2025 revenues to between 720 million and 740 million euros ($831-$854 million) from a previous guidance of 740 million to 790 million euros.
It also revised down its total transaction value, now expected to grow by 6% to 9% instead of the 10% to 16% projected at the initial public offering in February.
HBX, which buys hotel lodgings, car rentals and other products and resells them in bulk to travel agencies and retailers, said the conflict in the Middle East resulted in double-digit declines in destinations such as Saudi Arabia and Jordan.
It also highlighted a 3% drop in revenues in the U.S. as a result of the weaker currency and lower demand in the country.
Operating in the travel tech sector, the company is particularly exposed to global dynamics. Fluctuations in travel demand driven by rising trade tensions, currency volatility or geopolitical uncertainty could directly affect its booking volumes and revenue outlook.
After a lacklustre start on the Spanish stock exchange, shares in the company have failed to pick up and are now around 20% lower than on their February debut, underperforming the Spanish blue-chip index IBEX-35 (.IBEX), opens new tab, which has gained 23.6%. HBX is not part of the IBEX.
The group said in a trading update its revenues in the April-June period, the third quarter of its financial year, were up 3% year-on-year.
Earlier in July, analysts from Bank of America and Renta 4 said in separate notes that HBX had substantial upside potential, as the fragmented market it competes in should consolidate around the bigger players and smaller ones are set to be pushed out.

Rupee rally to hit speed bump on weak Asian cues, tepid equity flows

MUMBAI, Aug 20 (Reuters) - The Indian rupee's rally to a three-week high is at risk of stalling on Wednesday, pressured by a decline in Asian currencies and lacklustre equity flows. The 1-month non-deliverable forward indicated the rupee will open in the 87.10-87.14 range versus the U.S. dollar, compared with 86.95 on Tuesday, when it hit a three-week high of 86.92. Unwinding of long-dollar positions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's planned tax cuts and cautious optimism on the Ukraine-Russia front drove the rupee to its best day in seven weeks on Tuesday. The "washout" of dollar longs has left positioning much lighter, and it won't be a driver for the rupee anymore, a trader at a Mumbai-based bank said. "And without a pickup in equity flows, it's hard to see the currency holding near 87." While Indian equities have rallied on hopes that Modi's planned tax cuts will bolster growth, foreign flows remain tepid. Overseas investors were net sellers of local shares on Tuesday after putting in just over $100 million the previous day. Asian currencies slipped between 0.1% and 0.5% on the day, while the dollar index inched up to 98.40. Regional equities were mostly lower, tracking the tech-led selloff on Wall Street. U.S. Treasury yields, meanwhile, fell on Tuesday after S&P affirmed the U.S. credit rating. Much of attention was on a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and European allies over the Russia-Ukraine war. Focus now shifts to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell's speech on Friday, with markets watching for any pushback against expectations of a September rate cut. Traders are largely confident a cut is coming, with futures pricing in a more than 80% chance. Spain wildfires LIVE: Foreign Office's new advice amid 'very high' fire threat

The British Foreign Office has revised its Spanish travel advice - as the country faces a "very high or extreme" wildfire threat. Temperatures have soared to 45C in Spain, which has fuelled several blazes, including multiple across northwestern regions in recent days. Soldiers continue to support firefighters across the Galicia and Extremadura regions in particular, both of which border Portugal. And, with around two weeks left of the school summer holidays, the danger poses a threat to British holidaymakers considering the Iberian Peninsula - or with trips booked there already. The Foreign Office's website now reads: "There is a high risk of wildfires during the summer season from April to October." But it doesn't warn against travelling to Spain, which last year welcomed more than 18 million visits from Brits. Holidaymakers, though, should be aware the smaller, sparsely populated towns, especially across Galicia in the northwestern tip of Spain, have been ravaged by the fires. Firefighting units from Germany arrived in northern Spain on Tuesday to help fight the blazes, Spain's Interior Ministry announced. More than 20 vehicles were deployed to help fight an ongoing blaze in Jarilla in the Extremadura region that borders Portugal, the ministry said. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the area Tuesday and spoke of the heat that has fueled the fires. Temperatures across Spain dropped by about 4 degrees Celsius (about 7 degrees Fahrenheit) Tuesday after a 16-day heat wave with several days above 40 C (104 F), Spain's weather agency reported. 03:41KEY EVENT Foreign Office updates advice for travel to Spain Following the major wildfires yesterday, the Foreign Office revised its Spanish travel advisory, stating: "There is a high risk of wildfires during the summer season from April to October." Officials warn that severe weather conditions can impact numerous Spanish regions, particularly throughout the warmer months. But crucially, it hasn't added Spain to the "no go" travel list. 03:36KEY EVENT One of Spain's most destructive wildfire seasons Spain is experiencing one of the country's most destructive wildfire seasons in recent decades. Temperatures are dropping - but they had peaked at 45C last week. Thousands of firefighters aided by soldiers and water-bombing aircraft continue to fires tearing through parched woodland. It is especially severe in northwestern Spain, where the country's weather agency AEMET reported a still 'very high or extreme' fire risk — particularly in the Galicia region.

Oil prices rise after supply concerns resurface as Ukraine peace talks stall

BEIJING, Aug 20 (Reuters) - Oil prices rose on Wednesday as supply concerns are resurfacing while peace talks ending Russia's invasion of Ukraine are likely to take longer, leaving in place sanctions on Russian crude and raising the chance of further restrictions on its buyers. Brent crude futures were at $65.93 a barrel by 0149 GMT, up 14 cents, or 0.21%. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures for September delivery, set to expire on Wednesday, rose 37 cents to $62.72 a barrel, up 0.59%. The more-active October contract was at $61.92 a barrel, up 15 cents. Prices settled down more than 1% on Tuesday on optimism a deal to end the war seemed closer, which would mean the easing sanctions on Russia and an increase in global supply. However, despite comments from U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday the U.S. might provide air support as part of a deal to end Russia's war in the country, he also conceded Russian President Vladimir Putin might not want to make a deal after all. Trump on Monday said he was arranging a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelenskiy, to be followed by a trilateral summit among the three presidents. Trump said on Tuesday he discussed holding possible talks between Zelenskiy and Putin in Hungary with the country's Prime Minister Viktor Orban. Russia has not confirmed it will take part in talks with Zelenskiy. "The likelihood of a quick resolution to the conflict with Russia now seems unlikely," said Daniel Hynes, senior commodity strategist at ANZ, in a note on Wednesday. In the U.S., BP (BP.L), opens new tab said on Tuesday operations at its 440,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Whiting, Indiana, were affected due to flooding caused by a severe thunderstorm overnight, potentially weighing on the facility's crude demand.
