Free education for visually challenged girls in Mysuru
Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled has commenced the admission process for this academic year. The school has invited applications from visually impaired students from Karnataka for admission for the 2025-26 academic session.
Started in 1988, Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled (RMSD) is a free residential school for visually challenged girls. The school is run by the NR Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the NR Group. v
The school operates under 'child-centric project', and is supported by the Department of the Empowerment of Differently Abled and Senior Citizens. In the academic year 2017-18, the school had received the award for 'Best Service Organisation in Disability Sector' from government of Karnataka on World Disability Day.
The school was started with two students. Now, it is a well-equipped residential school that is changing the life of hundreds of visually impaired girls. It not only provides a safe shelter and quality education, but also helps in holistic development and prepares students to live a life with dignity. Extra-curricular activities, like dance, yoga workshops, singing competition, and vocational training, are a part of life at RMSD. The school follows the State syllabus learning through Braille system taught by qualified teachers and imparts technology upgradation of basic and computer skills.
The school provides parent counselling and organises house-to-house visits to bring about awareness on the importance of education and opportunities for visually impaired girls.

SSLC exam: Mysuru's special school achieves 100% results
Ranga Rao Memorial School for Differently Abled (RMSD), Mysuru, on Saturday said its students have achieved impressive results in the SSLC examination for the academic year 2024–2025. The school has achieved 100% results, with all the students passing the examination. Jahnavi H.K. secured the top position with a 91% score. Two students achieved distinction, while the remaining nine students who appeared for the examination passed in first class. 'This outstanding performance marks a significant achievement for the school,' the authorities said. It was established in 1988 to empower visually impaired girls in and around Mysuru through education and vocational training. Additionally, it equips students with life skills, music, dance, and basic cooking training, a press release said. 'The results reflect the dedication and perseverance of our students and the unrelenting efforts of our teachers and staff. The success brings us closer to our mission of empowering the differently abled and helping them lead independent and dignified lives,' said R. Guru, chairman of the NR Foundation, expressing his joy over the results. Jahnavi, the school topper, said, 'I am deeply grateful to my teachers for believing in me and guiding me every step of the way. Their support and encouragement have been instrumental in my success. This achievement has filled me with confidence to pursue my dreams and build a stable career in the future.'
