Film carnival in city from June 6 to 9
Bhubaneswar: Film buffs in the capital city are all set to enjoy classic films as the Bhubaneswar Film Festival (BFF) 2025 returns with a fresh edition from June 6 to 9. Organised by the Bhubaneswar Film Circle, this year's theme is "An Indian Language Film Carnival," which will bring a rich and diverse showcase of Indian cinema rooted in regional languages and culture.

The four-day festival will feature an eclectic mix of genres, from celebrated classics to groundbreaking avant-garde films, offering audiences an opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich tapestry of Indian storytelling. A curated line-up of landmark films, many of which are considered milestones in India's cinematic history, will be screened, highlighting the linguistic and thematic diversity of the sub-continent.
The festival will feature iconic works from legendary filmmakers, representing multiple states, languages, and time periods. Along with Odia films, this year the screening list includes award-winning Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Gujarati, Chhattisgarhi, Bengali, Tiwa, and Kannada films.
The Bhubaneswar Film Festival is not limited to film screenings alone. It will also host panel discussions, filmmaker interactions, retrospectives, and masterclasses aimed at engaging students, critics, and aspiring filmmakers.
These sessions will delve into the art and politics of cinema, the challenges of preserving regional film heritage, and the future of Indian language films in the digital age. There will be a masterclass on screenplay writing on June 7 and a masterclass on acting on June 8.

With the 2025 edition, BFF hopes to strengthen as an inclusive, forward-thinking celebration of Indian cinema's plurality," said Sanjoy Patnaik, a member of the festival management committee.
BFF will hold an obituary for eminent filmmaker Shyam Benegal by screening one of his best creations, 'Ankur'. Odisha recently lost the very popular and adorable Uttam Mohanty, one of the brightest superstars of Odia cinema, and BFF will showcase his films. Besides, BFF will celebrate the birth centenary of two of the most brilliant filmmakers of India, Guru Dutt and Ritwik Ghatak, by screening their classics and hosting memorial lectures by experts.
