Kochi: The Kerala high court has directed the Erumeli grama panchayat to ensure that no construction activities related to the 'Vapura Swamy' Temple at Erumeli are carried out without obtaining the necessary permit/building permit, in accordance with the Kerala Panchayat Building Rules and other applicable statutory requirements.
The bench comprising Justices Anil K Narendran and S Muralee Krishna issued the order on a petition filed by K K Padmanabhan of North Paravur in Ernakulam. The petitioner alleged that the proposed temple was being constructed without obtaining the mandatory permit from the panchayat, as required under Rule 5 of the Kerala Panchayat Building Rules, on 49 cents of land at Erumeli owned by a native of Thiruvananthapuram.
The petitioner alleged the construction was being carried out with the support of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, but Parishad's senior counsel informed the court that it was not involved in the project. Similarly, the Erumeli grama panchayat secretary submitted that no application for a building permit under the rules has been submitted by any person for the construction of the Vapura Swamy Temple.
Accordingly, the court directed that no construction activity should be undertaken without obtaining the requisite permit in compliance with the building rules. The bench also instructed the panchayat secretary to seek police assistance if necessary. Further, the court directed the Erumeli police station house officer to report the matter to the district police chief, Kottayam, if required, to ensure that no law-and-order issues arise in the locality.

UP Teacher Comments On Student's 'Tilak', Activists Create Ruckus In School
A group of 50 to 60 people belonging to a Hindu outfit created a ruckus in a school in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad after a teacher allegedly objected to students wearing 'tilak' (a religious mark on the forehead). The incident took place on Wednesday at the Rajkiya Balika Inter School. The furore among the Hindu organisations began last month when two sisters, identified as Manu and Soni, got admission in the school for Class 11. The classes began on July 15, but the siblings reportedly attended only two days so far - August 5 and 6. When they went to school last week, their teacher asked Manu a question that she could not answer. To this, the teacher told her to focus on her studies and that "nothing will happen by applying a tilak". However, the student also alleged that the teacher used to throw her out of the class whenever she applied a 'tilak' on her forehead. She also alleged that many other children wearing a 'tilak' were made to wipe it before entering the class. "She often told us that if we want to worship, go to a temple and not school," she said, adding that it hurt their religious sentiments. A week later, members of the Hindu organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) entered the school and created a ruckus, officials said. According to the teacher, many women were a part of the group who asked her to apologise to the students over her comments on applying 'tilak'. "In our country, every religion has the freedom to wear 'tilak'. Girls from Pandit families wear it every day. What's wrong with it? Girls from Muslim families come wearing a hijab. Did you ever stop them? If someone is going to school wearing a 'tilak', then they should not be stopped. The school has decorum, and we respect it," VHP President Alok Garg said. The school's principal, Vibha Chaudhary, said they will apologise if they have made a mistake. "I was not aware of the incident till the group came in. The police came in and dispersed the crowd. Our school has an excellent academic record. If anyone feels that we have made a mistake, we will apologise," she said.

Tamil lyrisict Vairamuthu's remarks on 'Lord Ram' stokes row, Sangh Parivar lashes out
CHENNAI: Award-winning Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu's recent reported remarks on 'Lord Ram' having "lost" his mind post his separation from Sita has stirred a controversy, with the BJP branding him a "fool." The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) condemned the remarks as "vulgar." The remarks were made at an event in the city recently, where Vairamuthu received an award named after Tamil poet Kamban, and in light of the killing of Vali. With the comments kicking up a row, Vairamuthu took to his social media page, claiming neither Valmiki forgave Lord Ram nor did Vali. The analogy refers to 'Lord Ram' killing Kishkinta King Vali during his duel with brother Sukreeva. To aid Sukreeva, 'Lord Ram' apparently targets Vali from behind, which some interpret as 'hiding' while releasing the arrow at Vali. Talking about this, Vairamuthu said he remarked that neither Valmiki, nor Vali forgave 'Lord Ram' for this incident, "nor was the world ready" to do so.
