Pankaj Tripathi reveals if he is part of Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life amid row. Here's what actor has to say
Actor Pankaj Tripathi has reacted to a question on whether he is part of Thug Life amid a row following Kamal Haasan's recent statement. When India Today asked Pankaj about his experience working with Kamal, he refuted being part of the film. Pankaj Tripathi called the rumours false, adding that it is a brainchild of the internet. The actor said, "Yeh jhooti khabar hai, yeh satya nahi hail. Yeh internet dwara paida ki hui khabar hai. Haan ji, main nahi kar raha hoon (This is false news, it's not true. It's a rumour born on the internet)." However, Pankaj is open to working in South films provided that the language is Hindi.
The actor said that when he speaks the lines, he should know the language. 'Kyunki main gaya tha ek baar Telugu film karne. Aur jab main 'ABCD' bolne mein... mujhe bahut asahajta hoti hai. Ki line samajhni chahiye, ki main jo bol raha hoon. Toh main chahta hoon karun, lekin character Hindi-speaking taki mere abhinay mein sahajata rahe (I once went to do a Telugu film, and when I had to say even simple lines like 'ABCD', I felt very uncomfortable. I need to understand the meaning of what I'm saying, and I want my character to be Hindi-speaking so that my performance can feel natural and effortless)," he added.
Thug Life found itself in a controversy after Kamal made "Kannada was born out of Tamil" remark. On Tuesday, the Karnataka High Court rapped the actor for refusing to apologise for the comment while hearing a plea seeking protection for release of his movie Thug Life in the state.
The movie will not be released in Karnataka on June 5, the scheduled date for the pan-India release, its producers told the court, following which it postponed the hearing to June 10. Kamal had said that his statement was misunderstood and that his words were taken out of context.
Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, also stars Trisha Krishnan and Silambarasan TR in the lead roles.
Pankaj will be next seen in Metro In Dino helmed by Anurag Basu. Backed by producer Bhushan Kumar, the film introduces a world of modern love and relationships. The film also features Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Neena Gupta and Saswata Chatterjee. The film is set to release on July 4.

'Census delay no accident, delimitation not a coincidence', says Stalin
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) president MK Stalin on Friday accused the BJP-led central government of deliberately delaying the national Census and orchestrating the delimitation process with a hidden agenda. Calling the Census delay 'no accident' and the delimitation exercise 'no coincidence,' he said, 'The danger I warned of is at our doorstep.' In a post on social media, he alleged: 'There is a sinister design in how the BJP-led Union Government is implementing the national Census and the subsequent delimitation. Developed states, especially in the non-Hindi speaking South, which followed population control norms, will now be punished.' He argued that states which disregarded population control for years would be rewarded with additional seats in Parliament. This, he said, distorts the federal structure and unfairly benefits neglect over progress. Stalin noted that he had already 'warned about this design' and cited senior Congress leader P Chidambaram's detailed explanation of 'how this sleight of hand is unfolding.' He said it was time to remain vigilant and prepare strategies to defend the South's representation. 'The 2027 Census will form the basis for the next delimitation, replacing the 1971 data. This gives the Union BJP government the means to restructure parliamentary representation to its advantage, at the cost of the southern states,' he alleged. While the Ministry of Home Affairs has stated that the concerns of affected states will be considered, Stalin described such assurances as vague. He insisted that the situation calls for a clear commitment in Parliament and the introduction of a Constitutional amendment. He added: 'Just look at what happened after Article 370 was abrogated. The Union government spoke of restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Elections were held. Assurances were given in the Supreme Court. Yet, Jammu and Kashmir remains a Union Territory. This is the track record of BJP we are dealing with.' Stalin warned that if delimitation is carried out using the 2027 Census, the democratic influence of the southern states would be severely diminished. He also criticised the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), saying, 'Betrayers like the AIADMK choose to kneel before the BJP for their political survival,' but that the people of Tamil Nadu, under the DMK's leadership, would not allow the state to suffer for its developmental success.

Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: Decent start for Akshay Kumar's film, crosses ₹13 crore on opening day
Housefull 5 Box Office Collection day 1: The much-awaited film, Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and his gang released in cinema on Friday. Off to a decent start, the murder mystery has crossed ₹ 13 crore at the box office. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Housefull 5 has so far minted ₹ 13.81 crore. However, these are the real-time updates from morning and afternoon. The final figures will be out after 10 pm. If the film maintains similar momentum during the evening and night shows, its total earnings could potentially double by the end of the day. Housefull 5 had an overall 20.93% Occupancy on Friday in 2D format. The 3D format saw an occupancy of 10.76% on June 06, 2025. Cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Ahmedabad had the highest occupancy with the highest number of screenings for the film in all formats. Following closely is Pune, Bengaluru and Surat on the list. Overall, the film has done better business than expected. Going by its advance sales booking, the film was set to premiere with ₹ ₹ 6.87 crore gross earnings (including the blocked seats). Housefull 5 is clashing with the Hindi version of Kamal Haasan's Thug Life which was released a day ahead of Housefull 6. Thug Life, however, has received an underwhelming response. On the other hand, both the films are also clashing with Maddock Films' Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi. ‘Mere paas janta hai': How Bollywood and Hindi are powering Mira Nair's son Zohran Mamdani's run for NYC mayor
Zohran Mamdani, a New York State Assembly member and Democratic mayoral candidate, has turned to Bollywood to fire up his campaign for the city's mayoral race, and is doing it using the lingua franca of those of South Asian descent – Hinglish. In a video posted on social media, Mamdani—who could become the first South Asian mayor of New York City—invokes the cinematic legacy of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kishore Kumar to challenge front-runner Andrew Cuomo, in a campaign message that feels more like a film trailer than a typical political ad. It is quite fitting as he is the son of acclaimed Indian filmmaker Mira Nair, who has directed internationally acclaimed films such as Monsoon Wedding and The Namesake. The background music is Deewanagi Deewangi from the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Om Shanti Om. The video opens with a scene from Deewar (1975), where Amitabh Bachchan, playing the hardened Vijay, faces off with his idealistic brother Ravi (Shashi Kapoor). In the original, Vijay boasts: 'Aaj mere paas buildingein hain, property hai, bangla hai, bank balance hai, gaadi hai. Tumhare paas kya hai? Urging the electorate not to vote for Cuomo, whom he marks as his primary adversary, he uses the lyrics: 'Khana milega pina milega bhaiya ki shadi hai sab kuch milega' to subtly send home the message that while Donald Trump-backed candidate may offer freebees, real change will be elusive. The election will take place on June 24.
