Dharmasthala mass burial case: SIT uses GPR at Site No. 13, no remains found
The GPR had reached Belthangady on Monday and demo of the search operation at Site No. 13 which was pending for technical reasons was done. On Tuesday, GPR technology was used at the spot in the presence of SIT chief DGP Pronab Mohanty and SP Jitendra Kumar Dayama, who is the investigating officer and Puttur Division Assistant Commissioner Stella Varghese and the witness complainant.
The machine didn't detect any remains at the spot and SIT decided to take up manual digging which went on till evening. No remains were found even after digging for 15 ft deep. Sources said manual digging is expected to continue on Wednesday too.

SIT arrests parents, friend of key accused in Kothamangalam woman's death case
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of a 23-year-old woman at Kothamangalam has arrested the parents and a friend of the key accused in the case. The arrested are Rahimon Yousuf, 47, of Thoppil, Panayikulam, and his wife Abdul Sahad, both parents of Rameez who has been remanded, and his friend Abdul Sahad, 25. The trio were arrested from a lodge near Salem in Tamil Nadu on Monday morning. They have been charged with Section 108 (abetment to suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a police officer said. The police were yet to get Rameez in custody for further interrogation. Rameez and his parents were named in the note reportedly written by the victim who was found dead in her house at Kothamangalam on August 9. Rameez was arrested based on certain allegations in the note, a day after the woman's death. The SIT was constituted after the police came under pressure as the kin of the victim and right-wing political parties alleged that the woman was a victim of attempted forcible religious conversion. Rameez was booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means etc), 108 (abetment to suicide), and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt). What is its plan now? The investigation was launched after a former sanitation worker claimed he was forced to bury the bodies of sexually harassed and murdered women around the Netravathi river. Armed with ground-penetrating radar and other sophisticated forensic technology, the SIT meticulously excavated every site identified by the complainant. His most damning claim—that site 13 held the remains of 60 to 100 bodies—was found to be completely unsubstantiated. While partial skeletal remains were found at site number 6, forensic experts have opined that they belong to a male, not a mass grave of women. The SIT has decided to suspend exhumation and excavation in Dharmasthala till the forensic reports are out. The Home Minister informed the Karnataka assembly that the exhumation has been stopped by SIT for now. 'Chemical analysis at the spot and forensic reports about any possible DNA traces from these sites are awaited. The SIT has decided to stop this till reports come. Uttarakhand rains: Jawan's body recovered 13 Days after Dharali disaster; 66 still missing
DEHRADUN: Rescue teams on Monday made a grim discovery, recovering the body of one of the nine Army jawans who went missing 13 days ago in the devastating rain-induced water disaster that struck Dharali and Harsil in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district. The jawan is among 68 people officially confirmed missing in the tragedy. The remains, believed to be that of an Army personnel, were located approximately three kilometres beyond Harsil, near Jhala, in the river. This recovery brings the total number of human bodies found in the Dharali-Harsil disaster zone to two. Previously, the bodies of two mules and a cow were also recovered. According to police sources, entire hotels and individuals are believed to be buried under eight to ten feet of debris, swept down by the gushing waters of August 5. This crucial insight has been gleaned using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) deployed by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). The State Disaster Management Authority had confirmed 68 people missing, including nine Army jawans from the Harsil camp, five days after the initial catastrophe.
