'Woody Harrelson playing me in a film is surreal'
Mr Allcock, who lives in Chesterfield but was originally from Bradford, said he had met the actor twice. "We went on set in Malta for four days and had a really good chat. He was trying to get my background and my feeling," he said."The first thing he said was 'I'm not doing the Yorkshire accent'."
Recalling the 2012 near-disaster recreated in the movie, Mr Allcock said his two colleagues - Chris Lemons and Dave Yuasa - had been diving on the seabed, inside a large metal framework, about 100m (300ft) below the surface. He explained they were attached to a "diving bell" by "umbilicals" - large cables providing breathing gas, communication and warm water. The diving bell - which Mr Allcock was inside as the safety diver ready to rescue a colleague if needed - was then attached to the boat."So wherever the boat goes, the bell goes," said Mr Allcock.
He said the boat's computer suddenly stopped working, the vessel lost power, and started drifting off. Mr Allcock said: "Diver two - Chris - got his umbilical caught on the top of the structure, and that changed everything."He said the cord "stretched like a rubber band" and he heard "a massive almighty bang, like a shotgun, then Chris's umbilical goes limp". "I thought I was going to go with it out the hole," he said."I pinned myself to the roof like Spiderman because if I had gone out the hole, I couldn't have rescued anybody."He said Chris Lemons was left in total darkness, and his emergency tanks on his back only had enough oxygen to last about 10 mins.
He said he and the other diver Dave Youasa - who had made it back to the diving bell - could not do anything to help Mr Lemons until the boat was up-and-running again."It ended up at 38 minutes," he said.He explained Mr Youasa went down to rescue him and "had to clip Chris on, and climb back up his own umbilical". Once the pair were on a framework under the diving bell, Mr Allcock said he was able to pull Mr Lemons inside using a set of pully systems ropes. He had stopped breathing and was hypothermic but went on to make a full recovery, including resuming his diving job and marrying his fiancee. The three men attended the film's New York premiere in February, with the movie due to hit UK cinemas this month.

Emmerdale legend returning to soap 26 years after she was killed off to quit acting for teaching
LEGENDARY Emmerdale star Glenda McKay is making a return to soap - 26 years after being killed off. The actress played Joe Tate's mother Rachel Hughes in the ITV soap for 11 years between 1988 and 1999. 3 3 3 She famously stepped away from acting shortly after leaving, having joined the soap at 17 alongside her real-life brother Craig McKay. But now she's making a return to screens - and soap - in sister show Coronation Street. A source said: 'Glenda is making an acting comeback 13 years after she was last on TV - she'll be playing a social worker called Alison Hale who deals with Tim and Sally. 'Just as she arrives to tell them they're set to foster the Michealis children, a shocking incident happens that throws everything into chaos.' The actress bowed out of Emmerdale in 1999 with Rachel being dramatically killed off in a domestic abuse storyline. At the time Glenda said: "I've been at Emmerdale for 11 years so it is a big change, but there comes a time when you have to go. 'I have other strings to my bow, and now seems like the right time to put them to the test." More than a decade later she returned to the soap as a visitor after taking a step back from acting to become a teacher. She took her class on a visit to the soap's set and reunited with some of her co-stars. 'The children were delighted to meet Chris Chittell who answered all their questions about what it is like to be famous and what is involved in being a soap actor,' she told the Ilkley Gazette at the time. 'It really was quite a trip for the class and I was delighted that they all behaved well and represented their school with pride. 'They also all appreciated how fortunate they were and were genuinely bowled over by their experience.'

Emmerdale fans 'fume to Ofcom' in shock over 'disgraceful' storyline
Emmerdale viewers were so shocked by violent Emmerdale scenes that they felt the need to reach out to broadcasting regulator Ofcom after a fan favourite was beaten up An Emmerdale fan has 'fired off a complaint' to Ofcom after seeing disturbing scenes. Viewers tuned into ITV's Yorkshire-based soap as usual on Tuesday night and one of them was so impassioned by a certain moment in the half-hour instalment that they felt the need to get in touch with the broadcast regulator. It all happened when Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson), confused about his sexuality, met Mike (Macaulay Cooper) on a dating website. Vinny, already tortured after developing feelings for his friend Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) whilst being engaged to Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham), invited the man over after he thought they had connected over sharing a problem in common, and it comes as a confrontation saw Mike accuse Vinny of inviting him over just to sleep with him. But as it turned out, Mike was only after money and savagely beat Vinny before walking off with his and Gabby's wedding rings. READ MORE: Is Vinny leaving Emmerdale? Future for Bradley Johnson revealed after heartbreaking storyline As Vinny lay on the floor, he realised that he had disclosed a whole host of sensitive information to this man about his inner turmoil. But fans were so shocked by the violence portrayed, and one was so 'disgusted' that they decide to take action, writing on X afterwards: "I've fired off a complaint to Ofcom- disgusted with how what used to be a family show has morphed into something that seems to be trying to to show as much violence and depravity as it can squeeze into each programme. 7.30 is far too early to show this sort of muck." The angry viewer was not the only one to take umbrage with the upsetting scenes, as another wrote: "This storyline is disgusting, Vinny reaches out to a support group and gets a homophobe and blackmailer, what sort of message is that sending to anyone questioning their own sexuality and wanting to seek out help." Another said: "This storyline is disgusting, Vinny reaches out to a support group and gets a homophobe and blackmailer, what sort of message is that sending to anyone questioning their own sexuality and wanting to seek out help." A further fan slammed the entire storyline as they suggested that the bosses of the soap enlist a Hollywood director to helm all the action that takes place in the fictional Yorkshire village. They said: "Appalling, disgusting storyline. Why don't you just get Tarrantino or Guy Ritchie to Direct. Vinny was a lovely character." One viewer also agreed the scenes were 'shocking', and one suggested: "The 9pm watershed is just a gimmick. Before then, nothing with strong language is allowed to be broadcast. But seriously violent and disturbing scenes such as this are perfectly fine. I can only assume that violence is socially more acceptable than swearing. Disgraceful." But other social media users were quick to play down all the controversy, and reminded them that that tuning in was a completely free choice to begin with. They said: "You know that if people don't like what they're watching, then turn your tv over, miss the episode, these things happen in real life, pity it was Vinny getting pulverised, it should have been John, just saying. Great camaraderie with Manpreet and Ruby." One said: "I knew there was something fishy about that bloke when Vinny first met him. But I wish # emmerdale hadn't got as dark as this. I much prefer the old." Another added: "Felt sorry for poor Vinny in Emmerdale I knew that lad was dodgy! No need for such violence, really laying into him! This happened before and not just with his dad!"
