United Bank has participated with EGP 600m in a syndicated long-term loan worth EGP 6.2bn, arranged by a consortium of six banks led by Banque Misr, to finance part of the Mountain View 1.1 project's EGP 14.4bn investment cost. The facility has a maximum tenor of seven years.
CEO Ashraf El Kady said the bank's participation reflects its commitment to supporting the state's development strategy and contributing to sustainable, integrated infrastructure projects that enhance citizens' quality of life. He highlighted the construction sector's vital role in driving economic growth and GDP expansion, noting that bank financing for such projects helps stimulate investment and create jobs.
El Kady also stressed the importance of directing investment to promote balanced geographic and demographic development, easing population pressure on the Nile Valley and Delta, while supporting housing supply for various income segments—particularly middle-income and social housing—thereby fostering social stability.
Deputy Managing Director for Business Sectors Nevine Kashmiry said United Bank is a major supporter of Egypt's construction sector, given its central role in development. She noted that the country's urban expansion under the 'New Republic' includes the New Administrative Capital and 12 new smart cities such as New Alexandria, New Assiut, New Suez, and New Alamein.
Deputy CEO Farag Abdel Hamid described the participation as a reflection of the bank's national role in shaping Egypt's future under Vision 2030, while Deputy CEO Moataz El Kassaby stressed the bank's preference for partnering with developers committed to quality and sustainability standards to maximise economic and social returns.
Albir Nasan, Head of Syndicated Loans, said United Bank's involvement in financing real estate projects aligns with its longstanding role in supporting the Egyptian economy and the state's urban development goals under Vision 2030.

Egypt Launches Fourth Special Train to Support Voluntary Return of Sudanese Citizens

Taarek Refaat Egypt's National Railway Authority on Sunday launched the fourth train service dedicated to supporting the voluntary return of Sudanese citizens residing in Egypt to their home country. The initiative, carried out under the directives of Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, reflects Egypt's commitment to its historic and fraternal ties with Sudan. According to an official statement from the Railway Authority, Train No. 1940 — a third-class air-conditioned service, departed from Ramses Station in Cairo at 11:00 a.m., heading south to Al-Sadd Al-Aali River Port in Aswan, where passengers are set to continue their journey into Sudan via river transport. The train is scheduled to arrive at 11:10 p.m. the same day. The authority emphasized that comprehensive logistical arrangements were made to ensure comfort and dignity for the Sudanese passengers, including the addition of an extra luggage carriage to accommodate personal belongings. The initiative is overseen by a special coordinating committee, tasked with maintaining safety and ensuring that travelers are treated with dignity throughout the process. 'This operation reflects the depth of the people-to-people bond between Egypt and Sudan, built on shared history, geography, and mutual respect,' the statement read. In a symbolic gesture that underscored the spirit of unity, passengers at Platform 8 of Cairo's Ramses Station were greeted with flowers and warm farewells from Egyptian officials and citizens alike. Photos and eyewitness accounts from the platform depicted heartfelt scenes of genuine solidarity as travelers boarded the train, many expressing gratitude for the support they've received during their time in Egypt. The return service, Train No. 1945, is set to depart Monday from Aswan back to Cairo, continuing to serve both Egyptian passengers and Sudanese nationals still residing in the country. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Standard Chartered: Egypt's Economy Shows Resilience amid Global Pressures

Taarek Refaat Despite mounting global economic headwinds, Egypt's economy continues to demonstrate notable resilience, according to a new report from Standard Chartered Bank, which praised the country's macroeconomic stability and rising investor confidence. In its latest mid-year economic outlook, titled 'Global Focus – H2 2025 Forecasts', the bank highlighted Egypt as a standout among emerging markets, particularly as economic conditions remain volatile in major economies such as the United States, China, and the Eurozone. 'Egypt's macro stability supports strong foreign currency inflows from both portfolio and official sources,' the report stated, adding that these dynamics are 'enhancing market confidence in the Egyptian pound.' Standard Chartered expects Egypt to receive more than 50% of the $12.5 billion in major investment pledges from Qatar and Kuwait by the end of 2025. These inflows are seen as a significant cushion for Egypt's foreign reserves and a testament to sustained interest from Gulf nations in Egypt's strategic sectors. This comes amid a broader effort by Egyptian authorities to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and bolster private sector involvement, as the country implements reforms under its agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). While the Central Bank of Egypt continues a monetary easing cycle aimed at spurring economic growth, the report noted that carry trade remains a key draw for investors, particularly after Egypt passed a key test regarding the convertibility and availability of foreign currency. The report emphasized that Egypt's commitment to a more flexible exchange rate and recent currency adjustments have helped restore investor confidence in the Egyptian pound, even as global interest rates remain relatively high. The IMF continues to call for stricter fiscal discipline and accelerated privatization efforts as part of Egypt's reform agenda. According to Standard Chartered, these measures are essential to ensure sustainable long-term growth and to broaden the base of foreign and domestic private investment. Standard Chartered forecasts Egypt's GDP to grow by 4.5% in the 2025/26 fiscal year, underpinned by ongoing structural reforms and increasing private sector activity. 'Private investment is a key driver of Egypt's recovery,' the report noted, underscoring the country's potential as a resilient, reform-oriented economy in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani

Silver Maintains Its Shine in 2025 – Weekly Gains and Relative Outperformance Over Gold

Waleed Farouk In a week marked by sharp turbulence in global markets, silver managed to preserve its luster as one of the most sought-after safe-haven assets, benefiting from a combination of economic and geopolitical factors that fueled demand for precious metals. Domestically, silver prices held steady, with 800 purity silver at EGP 52 per gram, 925 purity at EGP 60 per gram, and 999 purity at EGP 65 per gram. The price of a silver pound coin (925 purity) stood at EGP 480, according to data from the 'Safe Haven' Research Center. Globally, silver opened the week at $36.96 per ounce and closed at $38.26, posting weekly gains of nearly 3% and remaining near its highest levels in 13 years. This performance slightly outpaced gold, which rose by about 1%, although gold recorded a historic jump to $3,534 per ounce following reports that the United States intended to impose tariffs on imported gold bars — news that rattled the market. Silver held above the $38 per ounce threshold, supported by a generally bullish environment for precious metals. The gold-to-silver ratio fell to around 89 by the end of the week, down from levels above 100 in April, signaling relative strength for silver in recent months. Support for precious metals came from U.S. data showing jobless claims rising to their highest level since 2021, boosting market expectations — with an over 80% probability — of a Federal Reserve interest rate cut in September. Lower yields on alternative assets enhanced the appeal of non-yielding bullion. Trade tensions between Washington and Beijing, coupled with signs of a potential de-escalation in the Ukraine conflict, also maintained elevated uncertainty, further strengthening demand for safe havens. Year-to-date performance has been remarkable; silver broke the $35 mark in June and approached $40 in July — its highest since 2012. Gold has climbed about 30% since January, driven by record central bank purchases and inflation fears, with silver catching up in the second quarter, supported by strong industrial fundamentals and notable inflows into silver-backed ETFs. Major institutions have echoed this outlook. HSBC raised its 2025 silver forecast to $35.14, while noting its close correlation with gold's performance. Bloomberg warned that the high gold-to-silver ratio seen in the spring signals a potential economic slowdown but could set the stage for silver's relative outperformance if the Fed begins cutting rates. The World Gold Council stressed that factors such as a weaker real U.S. dollar, lower real interest rates, and ongoing trade tensions remain supportive of both gold and silver prices. While analysts caution that a sharp drop in gold could weigh on silver's gains, the white metal's outlook for 2025 remains positive if accommodative monetary policies persist and inflation stays elevated — particularly with the ongoing global shift toward clean energy, which is expected to underpin industrial demand and provide a strong base for prices over the medium term. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 Videos & Features Story behind Trending Jessica Radcliffe Death Video News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters Arts & Culture "Jurassic World Rebirth" Gets Streaming Date News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia Business Egyptian Pound Undervalued by 30%, Says Goldman Sachs Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Arts & Culture South Korean Actress Kang Seo-ha Dies at 31 after Cancer Battle Arts & Culture Lebanese Media: Fayrouz Collapses after Death of Ziad Rahbani
