‘Minister, not monarch': Asaduddin Owaisi slams Kiren Rijiju over ‘minority benefit more' remark

Mint11 hours ago
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on July 7 slammed Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for the latter's comments, saying that India is the only country where the minorities get 'more benefits and protections' than the majority community.
The Hyderabad MP countered Rijiju's remarks given to a newspaper by claiming that India's minorities are not even second-class citizens anymore and are, in fact, 'hostages.'
"You are a Minister of the Indian Republic, not a monarch Kiren Rijiju. You hold a constitutional post, not a throne. Minority rights are fundamental rights, not charity," Owaisi wrote in a post on X, quoting Rijiju, who had shared his interview with the Indian Express.
'INDIA is the only country where the minorities get more benefits and protections than the majority community,' Rijiju wrote in the post sharing the interview.
Owaisi asked if it was a 'benefit' to be called Pakistani, Bangladeshi, jihadi, or Rohingya every single day? 'Is it 'protection' to be lynched? Is it protection that Indian citizens were kidnapped and pushed into Bangladesh?,' the AIMIM chief asked.
Rijiju said in the interview that in the last 11 years, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government has championed the principle of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas'. Following this principle, he said, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has adopted the mantra of 'bhagidari se bhagyodaya (participation to good fortune)' to a result-oriented and empowerment-driven framework focused on education, skilling, entrepreneurship, and inclusion.
'The approach has ensured that minority communities are active and equal participants in India's growth story. The main point we have to understand is that minority communities are receiving more funds and support from the government than the majority community, the Hindus. Whatever the Hindus get, the minorities also do. But what the minorities get, the Hindus don't,' Rijiju told the newspaper.
Owaisi reacted by asking, if it was an 'honour' "to be the target of hate speeches from no less than the Prime Minister of India?'
'India's minorities are not even second-class citizens anymore. We are hostages. If you want to talk about 'favours', answer this: can Muslims be members of Hindu Endowment Boards? No. But your Waqf Amendment Act forces non-Muslims onto Waqf Boards — and allows them to form a majority,' Owaisi said.
Muslims, Owaisi said, are now the only group whose numbers have fallen in higher education. Their presence in the informal economy has gone up. They have been among the worst-hit by your economic policies, he said, adding 'this is your own govt's data.'
You are a Minister of the Indian Republic, not a monarch Kiren Rijiju. Minority rights are fundamental rights, not charity.
Indian Muslims are the only group whose children are now worse off than their parents or grandparents, the Hyderabad MP said. 'Intergenerational mobility has reversed. Muslim-concentrated areas are the ones most starved of public infrastructure and basic services,' he said.

Minister Bandi Sanjay Attacks Congress, Alleges Special Treatment To Akbaruddin Owaisi

Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched a scathing attack on the Telangana government on Monday, questioning alleged special exemptions granted to AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi's family and condemning alleged threats against media houses. Speaking to reporters in Jagtial district after inaugurating Central development projects, the Union minister alleged double standards and demanded a clarification from the Congress-led Revanth Reddy government in Telangana. Bandi Sanjay specifically questioned the Hyderabad Development Authority (HYDRA), stating, "Are the HYDRA authorities demolishing the houses of the poor in the name of encroachments, but giving exemptions to Akbaruddin Owaisi's family, who have built buildings in lakes and ponds and are running colleges and businesses there?" He cited claims by HYDRA that they cannot demolish illegal constructions at Mr Owaisi's college due to the presence of 10,000 students, contrasting this with the demolition of "small houses and huts built by poor people in the Musi river catchment areas, who have no source of livelihood or shelter". "Do only the lives of Akbaruddin Owaisi's family have value? Don't the lives of poor people matter? Are they not human?" the minister asked, accusing the government of turning a blind eye to alleged transgressions by AIMMIM leaders, including non-payment of electricity bills and encroachment. The Union Minister also strongly criticised the alleged preparations by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders to attack the offices of Andhra Jyothi and other news outlets for publishing critical stories. "When media houses are being attacked, what is the chief minister doing? What is the government doing?" he demanded. Reminding Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of the time he was jailed, Mr Sanjay asked, "Weren't you jailed unjustly and denied bail? Have you forgotten all that and now joined hands with them (the BRS)?" The BJP, he said, would "always stand at the forefront in protecting democracy and press freedom". Daring BRS leaders, he added, "Attack the media houses and see what happens. Within two hours of your attack, our BJYM (BJP youth wing) activists will take care of your BRS office and the TV channel in it. Telangana is no longer BRS' fiefdom."

BJP MLA seeks closure of meat, liquor shops along Kanwar Yatra route

BJP MLA from Jangpura Tarvinder Singh Marwah has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah requesting him to temporarily shut all liquor and meat shops along the Kanwar Yatra route in Delhi. The MLA said in his letter that a temporary ban on liquor and meat shops will 'respect the sanctity of the Yatra' and prevent any possible 'untoward incident'. This year, the Yatra will begin from July 11. Speaking to the press on Monday, Mr. Marwah said, 'During Navratri, we achieved great success with 70-80% of shops remaining closed for all nine days.' Mr. Marwah, a member of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee, said the Sri Guru Singh Sabha is a religious body that honours all religion. The Sabha will approach the owners of meat and liquor shops, urging them to respect the religious sentiments of the devotees, he added. Drinking water, medicines and resting camps for kanwariyas will also be arranged by gurdwaras, he said.

BJP's ‘leadership training camp': Nadda leads closed-door event

Raipur: In a strategic mix of political training, tribal outreach, and cultural promotion, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) began a three-day leadership training camp on Monday in the picturesque hill town of Manpat, often called "Chhattisgarh's Shimla. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now " The event is being held at the Tibetan Monastery Hall in the tribal-dominated Surguja district and was formally inaugurated by BJP national president , who arrived at Darima's Maa Mahamaya Airport via special aircraft before traveling to the venue under heavy security. The camp will conclude on July 9 with a closing address expected to be attended by Union home minister . The gathering has drawn the party's top brass, including chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, deputy CM Vijay Sharma, ten state cabinet ministers, 44 MLAs, and ten BJP MPs. Senior leaders like Union ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dharmendra Pradhan, B.L. Santosh, Vinod Tawde, and Shiv Prakash will lead twelve training sessions spread across the three days. According to party officials, the sessions are strictly closed-door and restricted to BJP MPs and MLAs, focusing on improving governance, public engagement, and upcoming election strategies. CM Sai, while arriving in Ambikapur on Sunday night, stated that the training will open "new dimensions of development" in the state and help representatives connect better with the grassroots. The opening day featured the first two training sessions led by Nadda himself. Nadda's special address aimed to sharpen the effectiveness of BJP leaders in governance and public outreach. Speaking to the media, BJP's Chhattisgarh in-charge Nitin Nabin took a direct swipe at Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi. "They should learn from the BJP," Nabin said. "Rahul Gandhi hasn't even mastered basic political etiquette. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Teaching others is also part of the BJP's job." The training camp will continue over the next two days, with sessions led by Union ministers and senior BJP strategists. The training sessions will cover a range of governance topics including the responsibilities of elected representatives in a 'double-engine' government, methods for enhancing public confidence, effective delivery of welfare schemes, and strengthening the organizational role of lawmakers. Emphasis is also being placed on refining public conduct and aligning elected officials with local expectations. Participants will be served traditional Chhattisgarhi cuisine, including millet-based dishes and the indigenous Lakda flower chutney, as part of "vocal for local." The opposition Congress party has strongly criticized the event, dismissing it as political theatre. State Congress communication head Sushil Anand Shukla accused the BJP of misusing public funds and claimed the training was not about public service but about teaching leaders "how to hide corruption." He described the event as a drama intended to distract from the alleged failures of the BJP govt.
