Emmerdale star teases soap crossover with real-life Coronation Street siblings

Daily Mirror15 hours ago

Emmerdale actress Amelia Flanagan addressed whether it's possible her character will feature in scenes with her real-life Coronation Street brother and sister amid a crossover
There's a soap crossover on the way, and one Emmerdale star is hopeful it will mean she gets to team up with her real-life Coronation Street siblings.
Amelia Flanagan spoke exclusively to The Mirror about her excitement for the big soap twist, confirmed by ITV recently. With Amelia, who plays April Windsor on the soap, having siblings on Corrie it could well mean they feature in scenes together for the first time ever.

Nothing has been revealed yet in terms of which characters from both soaps will be in the episodes, but we know at least one star from each show will interact. With talks of a public vote, it's not known who will be in those scenes.

With Amelia hoping to film with her her fellow soap stars and brother and sister William and Isabella Flanagan in what would be an epic opportunity for the talented siblings, could we see the trio on the same episode at the same time? Amelia certainly would love to see it happen, with fans also questioning whether they might get the go ahead.
Amelia told us at The British Soap Awards 2025: "I think everything is still in the pipeline at the moment, so we will have to watch this space and see what happens. It would be brilliant to explore that crossover because there's three of us in the soaps.
"It would be incredible, and it's very exciting. So fingers crossed we get some scenes together. It's never been done before, the crossover, and so much could happen."
At the awards, Amelia burst into tears as she was awarded the trophy for Best Young Performer, a category her younger brother William was also nominated for in his role as Corrie's Joseph Brown. William gave his sister a standing ovation and applauded her when the result came in.
In a sweet moment she supported him right back, mentioning him in her winners speech. Sobbing as she clutched the award, she told the audience: "This means everything. I just want to say, my little brother who I love so much."

Amelia went on to thank everyone at Emmerdale, before concluding with tears in her eyes: "Thank you so much, this means the world to me." The siblings later hung out together and with their co-stars at the afterparty, also joined by their parents.
Amelia also spoke to us about what's ahead for her character after a huge year on the show. With a return on the cards for character Dylan Penders, Amelia told us: "April has had an incredibly tough year with what she has been through, with the pregnancy and the homelessness storyline. April and Dylan didn't leave things on the best terms, but I think what is important now is that he's back.
"Who knows what will happen. It will be great to explore that relationship further, I think fans want to see that which is great."
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.

Presenter who was one of the most recognisable faces on TV quit for 'normal' job

Michael Underwood was a mainstay of children's TV in the 1990s and 2000s, presenting shows like Jungle Run, Ministry of Mayhem and Xchange A beloved figure in children's television during the late 90s and early 00s, took an unexpected turn when his presenting roles became scarce - he courageously decided to retrain and embark on a drastically different career path. Initially stumbling into the world of presenting after discovering a callout for audition tapes during his time at a radio station, Michael Underwood carved out a niche for himself, hosting a range of iconic kids' shows like Jungle Run and Ministry of Mayhem, as well as becoming a familiar face as an entertainment reporter for GMTV and Good Morning Britain. ‌ Beyond his presenting credentials, at age 39, Michael has also participated in high-profile reality shows such as Dancing on Ice, Celebrity MasterChef, and All Star Mr and Mrs with his partner, fellow presenter and Celebrity Big Brother star Angellica Bell. She too is known for her work with classic children's programmes like Xchange, 50/50, and That's Genius! ‌ He and Angellica lead a comparably ordinary life in their five-bedroom Victorian semi in Kingston-upon-Thames, London, with their son and daughter. However, when Michael's opportunities began to wane, he found himself at a crossroads. Speaking to The Mirror, he disclosed: "The phone stopped ringing. It's just not a nice place to be in. I needed to make a decision." "I thought you know what, I've got my teaching degree, I've got 20 years in broadcasting behind me, maybe I can take that skill set and put it to good use. Help build children's confidence, help them with their oracy, and their presenting skills. That's when I thought: 'Yeah, let's grab the bull by the horns and maybe take a step out into a different career'." He first took up a part-time drama teacher position at Surbiton High Boy's Prep School, peppering Year 4 classes with his broadcast experience, until he stepped up as a form teacher in 2019. Last September, with a full teaching degree under his belt, he embraced a full-time position at King's College School in Wimbledon. Reflecting on his earlier ambitions, he shared: "I never grew up wanting to be a television presenter, acting's what I loved but my family could never afford to send me to drama school." Recounting familial influences, he continued: "My mum was a nursery nurse, my sister was a nursery nurse, so working with children was in the family. It was my mum who actually said: 'Why don't you think of doing drama as a teaching degree, specialise in that and you've got something to fall back on if the acting doesn't work out.'".

EastEnders cast had no idea about big return until it aired - and one star cried

EastEnders legend and Doctor Who favourite Anita Dobson has shared the challenge of keeping her soap comeback as Angie Watts a secret from her close friends, and why she agreed to return Soap legend Anita Dobson didn't immediately agree to her EastEnders comeback in February, in an incredible soap moment that has now won her her first British Soap Award. The Angie Watts star, who recently proved a hit in Doctor Who as Mrs Flood AKA a new incarnation of the Rani, had to really think about the genius comeback that left viewers, and cast members, reeling. It was kept top secret with late character Angie appearing in the 40th anniversary episodes. ‌ Very few people knew it was happening until it aired during the BBC soap's big week a few months back. Even Anita's co-stars and close friends, including Kathy Beale actress Gillian Taylforth, were kept out of the loop. ‌ They didn't know until they saw the scene that Anita was back as Angie for the first time in decades, and years after she was killed off offscreen. Gillian confessed she was left emotional watching Angie return to the show to save her dying daughter Sharon Watts, who had been injured in The Queen Vic explosion. The moment left viewers with goosebumps as Angie urged her daughter to fight and stay alive, there for her in her time of need. But this wasn't the first time Anita had been asked to reprise the role. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the British Soap Awards, Anita revealed how she'd been asked before but it never felt right. This time around, Anita gave it some consideration and the rest is history. She spilled: "I did have to think about it. I wasn't sure because they'd asked me to come back a couple of times before and it never seemed quite right but I do think it's divine." But Anita confessed it was so hard to keep it a secret, filming the scenes two months earlier with barely anyone knowing. Anita said: "It was very difficult. We filmed it before Christmas. Gillian [Taylforth] didn't even know. I had to keep it a secret until February, that was a challenge. but it was worth it. The reaction was so good." ‌ It's then that Gillian told us she had no idea her close friend and former colleague had reprised her iconic role for the special episodes. The moment she saw Anita back onscreen left her and other co-stars in shock, with Gillian super emotional too. She told us: "We didn't know. It was an amazing moment. We were all like so shocked, we couldn't believe it. We had no idea, Letitia [Dean] didn't tell us. We really had no idea it was happening, it was amazing and such an amazing scene. "It was so emotional and I was so teary. The way Angie came back and got Sharon out of that, you know, on her way out [meaning Sharon was dying]. Mum came back and saved her." ‌ She went on: "Kathy has mentioned Angie a few times, 'your mu, used to say this', we still mention her. I love this girl I really do." But Anita says now was the right time, and it gave her the closure she needed years on from Angie's exit. Anita said: "It was perfect and it felt like closure for Angie and for me." With Anita returning to the set to film a special episode with Ross Kemp for the 40th, and a podcast with Lacey Turner, the actress revealed all about being welcomed back by the cast. ‌ She said: "They took me into The Queen Vic and everyone was going crazy. It was so lovely." Gillian added: "It brought back so many memories from 40 years ago. It was gorgeous together, we had a wonderful time." Anita also told us about her Doctor Who role, and the moment onscreen that sparked "a riot". She said when asked about the reaction to her reveal as being the Rani: "It actually wasn't as crazy as when Mrs Flood looked at the camera and winked, that caused a riot! "That didn't because a lot of people are thinking, ''where is she going to go from here?''. That sister of mine is so bossy but the outfit was great."
