Presenter who was one of the most recognisable faces on TV quit for 'normal' job

Michael Underwood was a mainstay of children's TV in the 1990s and 2000s, presenting shows like Jungle Run, Ministry of Mayhem and Xchange
A beloved figure in children's television during the late 90s and early 00s, took an unexpected turn when his presenting roles became scarce - he courageously decided to retrain and embark on a drastically different career path.
Initially stumbling into the world of presenting after discovering a callout for audition tapes during his time at a radio station, Michael Underwood carved out a niche for himself, hosting a range of iconic kids' shows like Jungle Run and Ministry of Mayhem, as well as becoming a familiar face as an entertainment reporter for GMTV and Good Morning Britain.

Beyond his presenting credentials, at age 39, Michael has also participated in high-profile reality shows such as Dancing on Ice, Celebrity MasterChef, and All Star Mr and Mrs with his partner, fellow presenter and Celebrity Big Brother star Angellica Bell. She too is known for her work with classic children's programmes like Xchange, 50/50, and That's Genius!

He and Angellica lead a comparably ordinary life in their five-bedroom Victorian semi in Kingston-upon-Thames, London, with their son and daughter.
However, when Michael's opportunities began to wane, he found himself at a crossroads. Speaking to The Mirror, he disclosed: "The phone stopped ringing. It's just not a nice place to be in. I needed to make a decision."
"I thought you know what, I've got my teaching degree, I've got 20 years in broadcasting behind me, maybe I can take that skill set and put it to good use. Help build children's confidence, help them with their oracy, and their presenting skills. That's when I thought: 'Yeah, let's grab the bull by the horns and maybe take a step out into a different career'."
He first took up a part-time drama teacher position at Surbiton High Boy's Prep School, peppering Year 4 classes with his broadcast experience, until he stepped up as a form teacher in 2019. Last September, with a full teaching degree under his belt, he embraced a full-time position at King's College School in Wimbledon.
Reflecting on his earlier ambitions, he shared: "I never grew up wanting to be a television presenter, acting's what I loved but my family could never afford to send me to drama school."
Recounting familial influences, he continued: "My mum was a nursery nurse, my sister was a nursery nurse, so working with children was in the family. It was my mum who actually said: 'Why don't you think of doing drama as a teaching degree, specialise in that and you've got something to fall back on if the acting doesn't work out.'".

Stacey Dooley slammed by fans as Lily Phillips stars in her new TV series

OnlyFans star Lily Phillips will star in the first episode of the sixth season of Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over - and some fans of the TV presenter have expressed their disappointment Stacey Dooley has been criticised by some fans after it was announced that Lily Phillips will be starring in the new season of her TV show. The presenter 's show Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over, which sees her spend 72 hours in the company of a wide range of characters and families, is returning for a sixth season. It will air on U and U&W later this year, with 23-year-old OnlyFans star Lily - known for having sex with 100 men in a day - starring in the first episode. ‌ As part of the series, Stacey will meet Lily in her London home to learn more about her career and what the content creator does. As news of the new season was announced this week, Stacey, 38, said: "I'm thrilled to be back for another series of Sleeps Over! ‌ "Truly, it's such a loved format and people always remind me of their fave moments when I'm out and about. We've got another 3 episodes that you're gonna love! The themes we touch on feel incredibly timely. As always, a sincere thank you to those families who agree to open their doors. Strap in!" U&W director of programming Adam Collings added: "Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over has become a U&W audience favourite, no doubt due to the array of families and their stories, but of course Stacey being at the heart and gaining unprecedented access to their homes. Her warmth and compassion allow for a safe judgement-free environment, giving viewers an open and honest conversation, which is what makes this series so special." After news of the upcoming season was shared on social media, many fans congratulated Stacey, but others expressed their disappointment at the fact that Lily will be starring in it. One wrote on Instagram: "Pretty grim giving that deviant airtime, not a single positive thing can come from the trainwreck of her life, screams if the worst click bait, expected better tbh." Another said: "Really disappointing, just don't think Stacey Dooley should be promoting or giving this girl a platform. Lowest derivative entertainment, a real regression in content from you Stacey." Someone else joked: "If she is sleeping over at Lilly Phillips' gaff I strongly suggest she gets the sheets fumigated!" ‌ However, some people were more supportive with one saying: "Omg wow this will be so interesting!!!!" Someone else added: "Can't wait. Love these shows x." Another praised Stacey for giving Lily a platform to talk about herself, writing: "This is so exciting! I was so touched by the documentary that came out about her and have been wanting to hear more about her. Stacey is the perfect person for this I absolutely love the compassionate and thoughtful way she covers sex workers." The Mirror has contacted Stacey Dooley's representative for comment.

Beyonce's Cowboy Carter tour hailed 'flawless' and 'show-stopping' by critics

While there may only be five UK dates left, fans can secure last-minute tickets by scouring resale platforms - and some may even bag a bargain Beyoncé has taken London by storm with the launch of her Cowboy Carter tour earlier this week. Queen Bey kicked off the series of six electrifying performances at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium - and the reviews are in. Following her first show on Thursday (June 5), critics have showered the superstar with praise, with The Mirror awarding the Single Ladies singer a dazzling five stars, hailing her as being in 'top form.' Our reviewer wrote: 'From flawless vocals and choreography and a seamless blend of bold stunts and spectacular visuals. In one section, the Texas native climbs on top of a gold-plated bucking mechanical bull as she gyrates and gets thrown from side to side without missing a note." Meanwhile, Wales Online lauded the show for its 'intense dance routines, emotional moments, nine quick changes and a flying car,' adding: 'Beyonce's Cowboy Carter is likely the most complete performance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this season." The Telegraph described the concert as a fusion of 'spectacle and seduction,' elaborating: "It was a show of spectacle and seduction, of bone-rattling volume and heart-beating musicality, of surprisingly hard-hitting politics and uplifting emotion." viagogo and resale tickets Sites such as viagogo, Stubhub, and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that ticket conditions often prohibit resale after initial purchase. Those tickets may not be valid for admittance to gigs. Fans intending to buy tickets for live events through resale websites should check the ticket terms and conditions, to confirm whether resale is prohibited, before they buy. Ticket terms and conditions can be checked with the original seller, such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation. If resale is prohibited, tickets bought second-hand could be voided and admission to the event refused. Writers at The Guardian were impressed by her rendition of Dolly Parton's Jolene, sang 'as if were a prelude to murder rather than a plea.' However, not all feedback was glowing, reports MyLondon. The Independent suggested Beyoncé leaned too heavily on her stage production. They said: "Ultimately it's left to a few show-stopping stadium gimmicks to make the evening: Bey flying over the crowd on a neon horseshoe on a thumping Jolene, or in a classic American car for 16 Carriages." For those who prefer to make up their own minds rather than rely on reviews, there are still tickets up for grabs – if you know where to look, including on resale sites. Cheapest Beyoncé London tickets available now Right now, Beyoncé tickets can be snapped up from several online resale outlets. These include viagogo, Vivid Seats and StubHub. Holly Willoughby's plans unveiled as she's left without upcoming TV show

Holly Willoughby has been an ITV staple for the last few decades but it looks like she won't be on our screens in the near future Holly Willoughby's career plans for the future have reportedly been unveiled as she's been left without an upcoming TV show. The star has been a staple on our screens for years but it seems that she hasn't got any upcoming projects for us to look forward to. The 44-year-old is now at a point in her career where she hasn't got a programme lined-up for the first time in 21 years. This comes as her usual presenting gig on Dancing On Ice has come to an end as the show has been axed. ‌ Holly's other job hosting Bear Hunt with Bear Grylls also won't be happening again as that's been axed as well. She has also chosen to leave You Bet! which means Stephen Mulhern will be hosting the show alone. ‌ It has been reported that Holly's husband Dan Baldwin is working on a reboot of Record Breakers which means Holly could be in with a chance of a presenting job. The Sun reported that a source said it would make "perfect sense" for Holly to be up for the role. They said: "Record Breakers is likely to be a prime time hit and it would make perfect sense for Holly to take the reins. She has worked alongside Dan before and the pair know what it takes to make great telly." Holly has also been in amongst a few names that could be hosting the reboot of Cilla Black's Blind Date. Other celebs that could be up include Claudia Winkleman and Davina McCall. Another show Holly is being looked at for is a new Channel 4 programme where new undiscovered singers are found. Holly first returned back to TV last year after taking an 18 month break. ‌ It has also been reported that ITV are keen to keep Holly as she recently met with Katie Rawcliffe, director of entertainment and daytime about future opportunities. An insider revealed: "Holly always intended to lock in new presenting roles for ITV, which has been her home for so long. She didn't have anything confirmed earlier this year just due to the way the cards had fallen, but there are a string of exciting projects on the table and 2025 is looking good for Holly. "Holly is looking to the future and this week's meeting was a big part of that. It won't be a return to daytime programming but new entertainment formats." The meeting coincided with a documentary about Holly's kidnapping airing. ‌ Holly declined to participate in Channel 5's documentary, The Plot To Kill Holly Willoughby, which told the story of the plot by obsessed security guard Gavin Plumb to kidnap, rape and murder her. The traumatic experience is what led her to step down from her role on ITV1's This Morning and take a break from television altogether.
