Pavilion REIT's Net Profit Rises To RM78.66 Mln In Second Quarter

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 (Bernama) -- Pavilion Real Estate Investment Trust (Pavilion REIT) posted a higher net profit of RM78.66 million in the second quarter ended June 30, 2025 (2Q 2025) compared to a net profit of RM67.12 million in the same quarter the preceding year.
Revenue also increased to RM213.34 million from RM201.30 million last year, it said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia today.
It said the increase was mainly contributed by Pavilion Bukit Jalil, driven by higher occupancy rate and income generated from its exhibition centre and advertising spaces.
For the first half of 2025 (1H 2025), Pavilion REIT's net profit rose to RM169.08 million against RM150.28 million a year earlier, while revenue also improved to RM441.52 million versus RM419.82 million previously. It said the improved performance was driven by improved advertising revenue generated from the upgraded LED screen at Elite Pavilion Mall.
On its prospects, Pavilion REIT said the resilient domestic demand is expected to anchor its growth, driven by labour market improvements, accommodative policy settings, and tourism recovery.
"Businesses in the retail industry adopt a cautious stand, given that cost pressures remain elevated with service tax imposed on rental and leasing of commercial spaces, higher minimum wages and subsidy rationalisation measures, which will reduce operating margin.
"Despite these factors, Pavilion REIT Management Sdn Bhd will continue its proactive management of Pavilion REIT's investment properties to give its unitholders steady distributions," it said.
Meanwhile, in a separate filing, the company announced an interim income distribution of 0.32 sen per unit for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2025, comprising a taxable 0.31 sen per unit and a non-taxable 0.01 sen per unit.

RM2 billion flood mitigation project in Kuching under 13MP

KUCHING: The Kuching City Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) will cost approximately RM2 billion, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. The project, divided into three main packages, includes constructing a canal, a bridge, and a barrage along Sungai Salak. Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, stated that the tender process will begin this year, with construction expected to start in 2026. 'This RTB will channel excess water through Sungai Salak. Similar to Sungai Sarawak, a barrage will be installed to prevent seawater intrusion and allow better water control during high tides,' he explained after the opening of the He Medical Clinic. The Kuching RTB is part of a nationwide effort under the 13MP (2026–2030) to improve flood resilience and public infrastructure. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim recently announced a RM20 billion allocation for 103 RTB projects across Malaysia. Key locations include Sungai Langat and Sungai Buloh in Selangor, Sungai Golok in Kelantan, and Sungai Johor Basin in Johor. - Bernama

Strong response for TVET courses with 60,000 applicants, says Wong Kah Woh

TAIPING, Aug 2 — Approximately 60,000 applications have been received so far for enrolment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses at vocational colleges nationwide. Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said the strong response reflects the growing appeal of these courses as a pathway for skills development among young people. 'We currently have a capacity of 17,000 places across 86 vocational colleges nationwide. Various programmes are being developed from time to time to strengthen vocational colleges, enhance practical skills, and expand on the job training opportunities for TVET graduates,' he told reporters after officiating the Taiping Air Festival 2025 at Tekah Airport here today. Wong, who is also the Taiping member of parliament, said the employability rate of TVET graduates has reached 99 percent in recent years, based on available reports. 'This is a remarkable achievement. We want our vocational graduates to have the opportunity to further their studies or secure stable employment based on the skills they have acquired,' he said. — Bernama

US tariff rate won't affect Malaysia's commodities market, says Johari

JOHOR BAHRU: The United States' decision to impose a 19 per cent reciprocal tariff on Malaysian goods will not affect the competitiveness of Malaysia's commodities in the global market, according to Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani. He stated that the tariff rate remains competitive compared to other ASEAN nations, including Indonesia, which faces the same rate. 'We're almost on par with the lowest rates in ASEAN. For example, Indonesia is the world's top producer of oil palm, and we're number two. 'They are also subject to the 19 per cent rate, so for us, 19 per cent is fair. It's not a problem,' he said. Johari made these remarks after attending the Pasir Gudang UMNO Division delegates meeting earlier today. The US announced the new tariff rate yesterday, reducing it from the previously proposed 25 per cent. The revised tariffs, effective August 1, 2025, will apply to imports entering the US seven days after the announcement, as stated on the White House's website. - Bernama
