Inside Taylor Swift's dramatic creative decision over next album The Life Of A Showgirl after Jack Antonoff fatigue

Daily Mail21 hours ago
Taylor Swift left her fans in celebration mode after the surprise announcement of her upcoming twelfth studio album The Life Of A Showgirl after midnight on Tuesday.
But some Swifties got an extra kick out of alleged album leaks that dropped shortly after the blockbuster announcement.
Among them was an alleged track listing for the new album that allegedly indicated the total absence from the new album of one of Taylor's biggest collaborators in recent years: her producer and co-songwriter Jack Antonoff.
According to a photo that allegedly showed credits from the inside of a Gatefold vinyl release, the new album appears to be primarily produced by pop architect Max Martin and Shellback.
DailyMail.com has reached out to Swift's representative for comment.
So far, the 35-year-old hitmaker hasn't officially released any information about her collaborators on The Life Of A Showgirl, and she also hasn't released an official track listing for the album.
Antonoff has been Swift's primary co-songwriter and producer on her most recent albums, 2022's Midnights and 2024's The Tortured Poets Department; pictured in 2023 in LA
But fans were emboldened by a Spotify playlist that Swift shared on Monday.
Eagle-eyed fans noted that every song on the playlist, which included choice cuts from 1989, Reputation and Red, had been produced by Martin.
The pop music maven used to be a major collaborator with Swift, but the two haven't worked together since recording music for 2017's Reputation, and Martin was notably absent from the sessions to rerecord songs he had previously worked on.
Fans were jubilant about Martin's hoped-for return, while others celebrated a potential album free of Antonoff, as many Swifties have blamed him for some of the weaker moments on her albums The Tortured Poets Department (2024) and Midnights (2022), both of which he was the primary producer on.
'Need her to stay away from Jack Antonoff,' wrote one fan on X.
'JACK ANTONOFF ISN'T ON THE ALBUM??? WE WON,' enthused another fan.
'Jack Antonoff the evil you have done has been defeated,' joked one poster.
'FINALLY WE ARE JACK ANTONOFF CURSE FREEEEEE,' wrote a particularly relieved fan.
Swift and Martin last worked together on 2017's Reputation, and he didn't not return to collaborate with her when she rerecorded older tunes that he had worked on; seen in 2016 in Hollywood
Fans were largely positive on rumors that Antonoff was not a collaborator on The Life Of A Showgirl, though Swift hasn't shared any official credits for the album
One fan celebrated Swift allegedly taking 'sound inspo from the best parts of 1989, reputation, and red,' which Antonoff wasn't involved in. 'The woman is locking in,' they added.
Another shared that they thought 'taking [a] break from Jack Antonoff is good,' because 'TTPD was like a rehash of midnight,' though they were complimentary toward Swift and Antonoff's earlier collaborations.
One user joked that learning Max Martin might be back in Swift's orbit felt like drug-induced euphoria.
'jack antonoff im sorry but this just hit me like a line of coke,' they wrote about news of Martin's allegedly involvement.
Prior to Swift's announcement, her website featured a countdown over a glittering orange background and the cryptic text below: 'Expires August 12 at 12:12AM ET' the release date is yet to be confirmed.
The excitement-inducing countdown appeared after Swift left fans convinced that was preparing to release new music after a recent tease from the Empire State Building.
Swift's website crashed immediately after the timer ran out, stymying many of her devoted fans, but the X account for her boyfriend Travis Kelce 's podcast shared a clip of her announcing the new LP.
'So I wanted to show you something,' Taylor said in a clip as she sat next to Travis. Then she pulled out a white case with 'TS' written on the side in orange block letters.

Swift, 35, shocked her loyal fans on Monday with a countdown leading down to the announcement of her new album: The Life Of A Showgirl, which she shared in a preview of her upcoming appearance on her boyfriend Travis Kelce's podcast New Heights (pictured)
'This is my brand-new album, The Life Of A Showgirl,' Taylor said proudly as she held up a vinyl version of the album, which was censored in the video.
Travis' brother Jason Kelce let out a piercing scream of joy as soon as the album title escaped her lips.
'TS 12!' Travis cheered excitedly, referencing The Life Of A Showgirl's status as her twelfth studio album, as the announcement clip came to an abrupt end.
Fans may be forced to wait until the New Heights episode drops on Wednesday to see an uncensored version of the album artwork.
Once Swift's website was back online, it had transformed into a 'pre pre-order' store for the upcoming album.
She was offering a $30 vinyl version of the album, a $13 CD that came with a double-sided poster decorated on either side with photos of the hitmaker and a $20 cassette version designed to appeal to fans with a retro streak.
Each display featured a heavily blurred version of what appeared to be the album cover, and the description promised that the various formats would have unique cover designs.
The vinyl version appeared to be tailored to collectors, as it was described as being printed on 'Portofino Orange Glitter Vinyl,' which was described as translucent orange vinyl decorated with gold glitter.

After the announcement, fans began speculating about possible guest appearances on The Life Of A Showgirl, even though Swift has given any indication of who might join her on the album.
After the announcement, fans shared their excitement on social media.
'OMG OMG TAYLOR SWIFT'S NEW ALBUM — THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL — TS 12!! 🥹❤️ I'm so happy!!!' one user gushed on X.
Another fan posted a clip of Oprah Winfrey being overcome with emotion and juxtaposed it against Taylor's new preorders.
One disappointed Swiftie admitted that they 'missed' the album announcement because they were 'doing mcat practice questions,' adding, 'they really don't tell you about the sacrifices of a premed until you're in it 😔.'
Several fans also noted how different the album release was compared to previous announcements due to Taylor's decision to share the news on her boyfriend's podcast.
'Announcing your album on your boyfriends and his brothers podcast...what's happened to my taylor swift,' wrote one concerned fan.
Several other users poked fun at how Swift's website couldn't handle the throng of traffic it attracted.

On Monday, the official X account for the iconic New York City skyscraper shared an image of the building, seemingly taken in February, with its top part lit up with orange lights, and the caption, 'See you next era.'
Many believed the post signaled Swift's next musical chapter following her extremely successful Eras Tour, and the consistent use of orange suggested a connection with her upcoming website reveal.
The official account for the Eras Tour even commented on the post, writing, 'Yessss' with an orange heart emoji.
Swift's last musical release was her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, which came out in April 2024.
Following the post, excited Swifties took to the comments, with one writing, 'Do you know something we don't, Empire State Building?!'
'Oh that lead single is coming,' someone else chimed in.
'TS12 listening party at the Empire State Building when?' another questioned.

'Guys IT'S HAPPENING,' gushed another overwhelmed user.
'I love New York supporting our beloved @taylorswift13!!!!'
'I LOVE that the Empire State Building is a swiftie.'
The Empire State Building's lights have been changed to different colors to recognize special occasions, holidays, and organizations in the past.
The building was illuminated in orange in February to honor Shiri, Ariel and Kfir Bibas, the Israeli mother and sons who were taken hostage and killed during the attacks on October 7.
Adding fuel to the speculations about Swift's potential 12th studio album was a recent announcement from her boyfriend Travis Kelce, with many fans correctly predicting that Taylor would appear on his podcast for the first time to announce her new music.
Swifties were left convinced that the songstress was finally making a highly anticipated appearance on Travis and his brother Jason's New Heights podcast after the hit show dropped a cryptic clue on Monday morning.

On Monday morning, the pop star's in-house marketing and public relations team, Taylor Nation, posted a series of photos of the singer rocking an array of orange Eras Tour looks
Many Swifties believe that orange will be the new color scheme of the 14-time Grammy Award winner's 12th studio album 'era'
New Heights' official X account shared a post revealing that the podcast would return from its temporary summer break for a one-off episode with a 'VERY special guest' on Wednesday at 7pm ET.
The image they selected happened to feature a black silhouette and a bedazzled orange background, seemingly teasing Swift may be joining them.
Others pointed to a clue in Jason's choice of clothing, as the retired Philadelphia Eagles legend was wearing a T-shirt from Swift's merchandise line.
And, despite the podcast's attempts to protect the guest's anonymity, not only were the pop sensation's fans convinced she would be returning to the public eye on the show but that she has a very specific reason for stepping back into the spotlight.
Some theories suggested she might be announcing a Super Bowl Halftime performance, an NFL theme song, a re-recorded album, or even an Eras Tour documentary, though fans seemed particularly happy to learn that Swift would be releasing a new album.
New Heights' announcement was followed by a teaching post from Taylor Nation — the singer's in-house marketing and public relations team — which read: 'Thinking about when she said "See you next era…"'
The account added fuel to the fire by following it up with four images of the 'Anti-Hero' hitmaker in orange outfits — the same color as the background of New Heights' promo graphic.
Two more batches of four similar photos followed, taking the total to 12, which would be the number of the singer's next album.
Swift's last musical release was her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, which came out in April 2024
'TS12 IS ACTUALLY COMING THIS IS NOT A DRILL WHATS THE PROCEDURE!!,' one fan wrote.
'She's announcing ts12 on the pod isn't she…….,' another social media user questioned.
'travis looking to his left with his Taylor Smile, jason wearing merch, i can see the bangs from a mile away……but most importantly, the background… …..ts12 confirmed to be orange alert the troops,' a third theorized.
'We're gonna get the ts12 announcement on the 13th day of August on an episode of New Heights WHAT IS LIFE,' gushed another fan.

Trump to visit Kennedy Center after hinting at name change as honors announced

Update: Date: 2025-08-13T09:47:20.000Z Title: Trump at Kennedy Center same day that honors are announced Content: Hello and welcome to the US politics live blog. My name is Tom Ambrose and I will be bringing you all the latest news. We start with the news that Donald Trump will be visiting the Kennedy Center on Wednesday, the same day that the recipients of this year's honors are announced. Trump avoided the Kennedy Center Honors during his first term after artists said they would not attend out of protest. This year, he has taken over as the Kennedy Center's new chairman and fired the board of trustees, which he replaced with loyalists. In a Truth Social post Tuesday, Trump teased a name change for the performing arts center and said it would be restored to its former glory, AP reported. 'GREAT Nominees for the TRUMP/KENNEDY CENTER, whoops, I mean, KENNEDY CENTER, AWARDS,' Trump wrote. He said work was being done on the site that would be 'bringing it back to the absolute TOP LEVEL of luxury, glamour, and entertainment.' 'It had fallen on hard times, physically, BUT WILL SOON BE MAKING A MAJOR COMEBACK!!!' he wrote. It is unclear how this year's batch of honorees were chosen, though Trump had indicated he wanted a more active role. Historically, a bipartisan advisory committee selects the recipients, who over the years have ranged from George Balanchine and Tom Hanks to Aretha Franklin and Stephen Sondheim. A message sent to the Kennedy Center press office asking how this year's honorees were selected wasn't returned Tuesday. The Kennedy Center did post this on social media, however: 'Coming Soon ... A country music icon, an Englishman, a New York City Rock band, a dance Queen and a multi-billion dollar Actor walk into the Kennedy Center Opera House ...' In other developments: The DC national guard began deploying on the city's streets Tuesday night, a day after Trump ordered their arrival and took control of the city's police force, calling Washington DC a 'lawless' city, despite official crime statistics saying otherwise. A federal judge ordered the Trump administration to immediately improve conditions at a New York City immigration holding facility, acting on mounting complaints from detainees that the cells are overcrowded, unsanitary and inhumane. The Texas Senate approved a GOP-drawn congressional map that would give Republicans five more House seats ahead of the 2026 midterms. But since House Democrats continue to break quorum, the legislation isn't going anywhere. Speaker Dustin Burrows said the House will adjourn until Friday, at which point the legislature will attempt to reach quorum one more time. President Trump is due to speak with European leaders, including Volodymyr Zelenskyy, today ahead of Friday's meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin. Trump's press secretary Karoline Leavitt characterised Friday's meeting between Trump and Putin as a 'listening exercise' for the president, confirming that Zelenskyy would not be in attendance, but the president has hopes for a trilateral meeting in the future. For more on the upcoming meeting, follow our Europe live blog here. California governor Gavin Newsom says the state will draw new electoral maps after Trump 'missed' a deadline on Tuesday night in an ongoing redistricting battle between Democratic and Republican states. The Trump administration is evidently extending its control of cultural representation at the Smithsonian, the world's largest museum and research complex. In a letter posted on the White House website, the administration told the Smithsonian that it plans a wide review of exhibitions, materials and operations ahead of the US's 250th anniversary celebrations in 2026.

Watch the moment Brooklyn Beckham ‘proposes' to Nicola Peltz before vow renewal as fans demand he drops the family name

BROOKLYN Bekcham was seen in a video proposing to Nicola Peltz before their vow renewal, and fans have demanded he drops the family name. None of the Beckhams were invited to the lavish ceremony on August 2 — presided over by Nicola's billionaire dad Nelson — and only read about it on an American website. 5 5 5 Brooklyn's original wedding with Nicola took place on Nelson's estate in Palm Beach, Florida, with Brooklyn's sister Harper among the bridesmaids, and he proposed to Nicola in 2020 by a lake. But ahead of their vow renewal, which has been branded a 'gratuitous display of wealth,' Brooklyn proposed to his wife for a second time. Nicola shared a romantic clip of Brooklyn getting down on one knee in a white t-shirt and jeans in a summer house by a lake. She captioned the video: 'We showed our friends how he proposed,' and Nicola could be seen in a baggy t-shirt looking delighted at her husband's romantic gesture. But fans were left outraged by the post, as they demand they drop the Beckham surname. One person wrote: 'I don't understand why you have the Beckham name when you hate them so much.' A second penned: 'Drop the Beckham name if you're going to ignore them and snub them from everything.' Someone else questioned: 'Why have you kept the Beckham surname?' A source close to the Beckhams says the family has questioned Brooklyn's need to renew his vows after just three years. Brooklyn Beckham & Nicola Peltz 'renew wedding vows' after 3 years of marriage One friend said: 'They would understand if it was, say, 10 years down the line - maybe even five. But three?! It seems like quite a gratuitous display of obscene wealth. "Also, if Brooklyn wanted to create a really cute memory, why couldn't he have just let his family know their plans first? 'To be honest, although there have been moments of rapprochement, this hostility dates back to 2021, around six months before the original wedding. "The dynamics have just never really gelled. The Beckham Family Feud April 2022: Brooklyn marries Nicola Peltz. Wedding Dress Controversy: Rumours begin circulating that there's tension between Nicola and Victoria Beckham after Nicola chooses not to wear a Victoria Beckham -designed wedding gown. Nicola later clarifies in August 2022 (and again in March 2023) that Victoria's atelier couldn't make the dress in time, but reports in May 2025 suggest Victoria actually changed her mind about making the dress. Post-Wedding (2022 onwards): Minimal interaction between Nicola and Victoria on social media, and noticeable absence of Nicola at key Beckham family events. Alleged Wedding "Hijack": In May 2025, a source claimed Victoria "ruined" part of the wedding by allegedly hijacking a dance with Marc Anthony, which was meant for Brooklyn and Nicola. Nicola reportedly ran from the room crying. March 2025: A resurfaced TikTok of Romeo and Cruz mimicking a "baby voice" (which fans associate with Nicola) sparks speculation of sibling shade. April 2025: Brooklyn and Nicola are reportedly absent from Victoria Beckham's 51st birthday celebrations in Miami and her Paris Fashion Week show. May 2025: David Beckham's 50th Birthday Snub: Brooklyn and Nicola are notably absent from David Beckham's 50th birthday celebrations in London, despite being invited. Reports suggest their absence was due to Brooklyn not wanting to be in the same room as Kim Turnbull, the girlfriend of Romeo who had previously been reported to have been dating Brooklyn, who David allegedly opted to have at the party over Nicola. Rumours emerge of a falling out between Brooklyn and his younger brother Romeo, reportedly due to Romeo's new girlfriend, DJ Kim Turnbull, who allegedly had a past connection with Brooklyn. Reports surface that the Beckham parents are "hurt and disappointed" that Brooklyn is "playing no part in family life." Sources claim that tensions between Brooklyn and Nicola and his parents are "definitely not beyond repair." June 2025: Brooklyn and Nicola reportedly enlist a "crisis team" similar to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for "reputation management" due to the growing media scrutiny. Cruz Beckham posts cryptic lyrics on Instagram that some interpret as a swipe at Brooklyn. July 2025: Reports indicate David and Victoria are "desperate" to reconcile with Brooklyn. Brooklyn publicly wishes his sister Harper a happy 14th birthday on Instagram, tagging Nicola, which is seen as a potential "olive branch" and a rare public message to his family amid the rumored rift. Brooklyn UNFOLLOWS his brothers Romeo and Cruz just 24 hours after his birthday message to Harper. Nicola quickly follows suit and also ditches the Beckham bros from her Instagram following. Romeo and Cruz are now also no longer following Brooklyn. 'Of course David and Victoria want Brooklyn to be happy and clearly he is wildly in love still, but a lot of people have been hurt. "It is a very sad situation and everyone fears there is no way back now. It is done.' It was also revealed that even Brooklyn's grandparents were excluded from the special day - despite their close relationship. This week, a source said: 'This was the final kick in the teeth for David and Victoria. 'Seeing Nelson having such a pivotal role at the ceremony was heartbreaking for David especially. "Not one member of the 30-plus extended family knew about the wedding, or were invited. 'His grandparents are devastated too as Brooklyn has always been so close to them. 'It feels cruel and spiteful. This is no longer a game. It has gone beyond all that. 'This is a family who feel they have lost their precious boy - and see no way back. "Honestly, they are now questioning why he even wants to keep the 'Beckham' surname - will he revert to Peltz? August 2nd 2025 - is this the day Brooklyn formally declared himself no longer a part of the Beckham family? 'It certainly feels like it.' 5
