Edinburgh 'fire festival' in pictures as Scots celebrate start of summer
A unique festival took place in Edinburgh this week that celebrates the beginning of summer.
The Beltane Fire Festival is an annual event that takes place on April 30 at Calton Hill. It takes the form of a procession that starts at Edinburgh's National Monument - and the one-of-a-kind festival involves acrobats, dancers, musicians, puppeteers, and more.
It is an immersive and interactive experience, with no barriers between the audience and performers. The Beltane Fire Festival tells the story of the May Queen and the Green Man.
The pair lead the procession, which also includes a wide variety of other colourful characters, joined by other performers painted in bright colours, with many semi-nude.
Over the course of the festival, guests will observe the death and rebirth of the Green Man - and this symbolic ritual signals the beginning of summer.
Here the Record takes a look at the best pictures from yesterday.

This blackboard puzzle reveals if you have teacher level attention skills
At first glance, everything looks correct, but those with a sharp eye will be able to spot the error As we live our lives more and more online, we find our attention span decreasing dramatically. We are inundated with short, social media clips, news soundbites, and instant messaging, which can cause a brain overload. However, there are certain tasks you can do to keep your brain ticking over. Puzzles and brainteasers are a great way to keep the mind active, and ensure you don't hit a mental slump whether that's at your desk or at home. One classic classroom-style brainteaser, created by brainbusters from Piktochart is testing students and professionals alike. It's not just a fun distraction, but a reminder of how important attention to detail can be, especially when working with numbers. The blackboard is full, every line packed with the number 4502 written neatly in chalk. But one of them doesn't belong. The challenge is to spot the imposter number faster than 99 per cent of professionals can. Hidden among the rows of identical figures is a single imposter. At first glance, everything looks correct, but those with a sharp eye (and maybe a teacher's instinct) will be able to spot the error. So, grab your (imaginary) red pen, channel your inner teacher, and see if you can find the odd number out! Can you make the grade? Commenting on the brain teaser, Ai Ching Goh, co-founder of Piktochart said: "We designed this to reflect real-world learning scenarios. "Just like in a maths class or when proofreading data, the smallest difference can have the biggest impact. "It's a fun way to test observation skills, and a good reminder that visuals can be powerful tools for learning." Got it yet? Be warned - we are about to reveal the solution down below. So, if you don't want any spoilers, scroll back up and try again. Otherwise, if you think you've got it, read on. If you want to keep the conundrums going, the Record has a festival inspired brainteaser that is sure to get the cogs turning. The challenge is inspired by one of the most relatable festival problems. That problem is finding your friends in a packed crowd. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Donald Trump's Air Force One makes guest appearance in couple's wedding photoshoot
The US President made an appearance in the couple's photographs as his impressive jet Air Force One flew over their heads. This is the moment Donald Trump featured in a Scots couple's pre-wedding photo shoot. The US President made an appearance in practice snaps for a bride-and-groom-to-be as his impressive jet Air Force One flew over their heads. The iconic plane carrying the world leader was coming into land at Prestwick Airport on Friday. Thousands had gathered to watch the historic moment as the president arrived for a whistle-stop five-day visit to Scotland to visit his two golf resorts. And as the mega Boeing-747 made its final approach it was captured at nearby Enterkine Country House Hotel by the couple's wedding photographer, who caught stunning images. Koren McGreever, 29, and future-husband, Aaron Davis, 32, were down on ground level posing amongst scenic fields when they heard the huge jet fly over. They quickly rushed to get a perfect spot with wedding snapper Gavin Macqueen snapping the world's most famous aircraft above them. Koren, who lives with Aaron in Stirling, told the Record: 'We're not getting married until next July but we wanted to do a practice shoot this summer to try and replicate the same lighting and background. 'We never expected that background to include the President of the United States. 'We never actually realised he was arriving that day until we heard this loud plane over our heads. I looked up and it was the biggest jet I've ever seen. 'We only had a few seconds to get a shot with it in, the photographer was scrambling about trying to get it. 'We ran to another spot in the middle of a barely field and Gavin managed to get this incredible pic with Air Force One up above us. 'The end result is amazing, it is definitely getting framed.' The couple say they have had a great response to the pictures which was shared on social media by Gavin. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! 'Our friends and family have found it hilarious, some of them have asked if he's going to be getting an invite to the wedding. 'Another friend shared a picture of us and put the caption 'Love Trumps All', which we absolutely loved.' Glasgow photographer Gavin Macqueen admitted the appearance of President Trump's plane caught him by surprise. He said: 'I drove round from Prestwick to Enterkine House and the airport perimeters were mobbed with people and the police. 'I had a feeling I was going to see Air Force One but I hadn't anticipated that it would be during the shoot. I thought it would be on the drive back to Prestwick where I was staying for the night. It was surreal how it happened. 'We heard the low drone of the plane before we saw it. We were right on the flight path. And then I got the pictures. It all happened so fast - instinct took over.' Trump touched down last Friday at the Ayrshire travel hub before heading along to his golf resort in Turnberry where he spent a few days. He then travelled to his Meine Estate golf course in Aberdeenshire where he had dinner with First Minister John Swinney and held crunch talks with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. Trump's presence in Scotland was met with protests in both Ayrshire and Aberdeenshire.
