Meghan's wine, released today, joins her 'As Ever' lifestyle stable, taking its place alongside some jam, shortbread mix and hibiscus tea. At the time of writing I have been unable to sample the product, so I will have to take her press release's word for it, which is that this 'bespoke blend' will have 'soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality and a lasting finish'.

Of course it hardly matters what the liquid tastes like. For anyone with a glamorous profile and a shrewd business nose, rosé is an easy win, a wine that requires no wine knowledge beyond enjoying its summery ambience. As the Telegraph 's wine correspondent, Victoria Moore, points out, every celeb and multimillionaire worth their salt now sells 'this shimmering, pale-pink liquid in beautiful bottles, like a fragment of a summer dream, to the likes of me and you.' There was once a time when rosé wasn't trendy, and when drinkers looked for qualities other than looks. Today, colour is the main thing. The paler the better, ideally the faintest of touches off fully translucent.
Meghan's wine is made, according to sources, with grapes from Fairwinds Estate in Napa Valley, California, a six-hour drive away from her home in Montecito. Fairwinds produces Barry Manilow's wines and those for the John Wayne family estate. It's behind countless other 'entertainment' wine brands, sports wine brands, fraternity wine brands and sorority wine brands. The Duchess of Sussex will be in excellent company as she seeks to 'bring joy to [us] and [our] loved ones' with the deliverance of her 2025 As Ever Rosé.
Naturally there is a Diana connection, too. The Martha Stewart of Montecito did not get where she is without an eye for the main prize, and she was hardly about to launch her rosé – a blue riband moment for any would-be lifestyle tycoon – on some random day of the year.
July 1 was Diana's birthday. It was also the date that Meghan first made contact with 'H', her shadowy and little-seen husband rumoured to have former connections to the British crown. We cannot say for certain how Diana would have celebrated her 64th birthday, but perhaps she would have appreciated a 'bespoke blend' being launched on it.
To Meghan's credit, she has displayed more prior interest in wine than she has in jam. She has admitted to enjoying a glass to relax. Her now-defunct former lifestyle blog, 'The Tig', was apparently named after Tiganello, a favoured Italian red.
'It wasn't just red or white – suddenly I understood what people meant by the body, legs, structure of wine,' she wrote. 'It was an ah-ha moment at its finest.
'For me, it became a 'Tig' moment – a moment of getting it. From that point on, any new awareness, any new discovery or 'ohhhhh, I get it!' moment was a 'Tig' moment.'
This is an old-fashioned view of wine, where learning to appreciate its richness and depth is part of growing up. Luckily for As Ever, Meghan has 'Tigged' that vibes trump terroir. See a rosé and think of the sea, sunshine and a fledgling lifestyle brand in California. Thanks to her, we can all drink like former royalty.

What the key witnesses at Sean 'Diddy' Combs' sex trafficking trial told the jury
The jury deliberating at Sean 'Diddy' Combs' sex trafficking trial heard testimony from 34 witnesses over the last seven weeks. They included Combs' ex-girlfriends Cassie and Jane, who said he forced them into drug-fueled sex marathons they called 'freak-offs' and 'hotel nights,' a sex worker they knew as ' The Punisher,' personal assistants who said they witnessed his violence and facilitated his sexual exploits, and other women who accused him of abuse. All of the witnesses were called by the prosecution. Combs waived his right to testify — not unusual for criminal defendants — and his defense team declined to call any witnesses of their own. Instead, they sought to undercut the allegations via cross-examination during the prosecution's case. Here are some of the key witnesses and what they said: Cassie Cassie, the R&B singer whose real name is Casandra Ventura, dated Combs from 2007 to 2018 after he signed her to his Bad Boy Records label. Over four days, she told jurors Combs beat her and ordered her to have 'disgusting' sex with male sex workers during multi-day 'freak-offs." She also said Combs raped her after she said she was ending their relationship. In 2016, security cameras captured Combs hitting, kicking and dragging Cassie as she left his room at the Intercontinental Hotel in Los Angeles. The video was shown repeatedly throughout the trial. A hotel guard testified that Combs paid $100,000 to hide the video. It remained secret until CNN aired it in May 2024. Jane Jane, testifying under a pseudonym, dated Combs from 2021 until his arrest last September. The model said she repeatedly told Combs she didn't want to have sex with other men but that he kept pressuring her. She said she felt 'obligated' in part because he paid her rent. Last year, Jane said, Combs put her in a chokehold, punched her in the face and forced her into an encounter with a sex worker. She said he told her: 'You're not going to ruin my night like this.' Both women said Combs threatened to release their sex videos if they refused his demands. Kid Cudi Rapper Kid Cudi testified that Combs broke into his home in late 2011 after learning he and Cassie were dating. His Porsche was firebombed a few weeks later. Cudi, whose legal name is Scott Mescudi, said he knew Combs 'had something to do' with it, but Combs told him he wasn't involved. Cudi said he thought Combs was lying when he claimed he knew nothing about the car. Daniel Phillip Daniel Phillip, an exotic dancer involved in 'freak-offs' from 2012 to 2014, said he was paid $700 to $6,000 to have sex with Cassie while Combs watched and barked orders at them. He recalled the hip-hop mogul telling them: 'You need to rub more baby oil on each other. You don't have enough on.' Another time, Phillip said, Cassie jumped into his lap — her body shaking — after it sounded like Combs was slapping and slamming her around an adjoining room. He said he stopped meeting the couple after seeing Combs throw a bottle at her before dragging her by her hair into a bedroom as she screamed. "The Punisher" Sharay Hayes, an exotic dancer known by the stage name 'The Punisher,' said Cassie used the ruse of a birthday striptease to lure him to his first 'freak-off." He recalled seeing baby oil bottles in bowls of water and getting handed $800 in cash. Later, after Combs watched him have sex with Cassie, he said he was handed $1,200 more. Combs kept his face hidden during their initial meetings, and Hayes said he didn't realize it was him until he saw a message on a hotel room TV screen that said: 'Essex House would like to welcome Mr. Sean Combs.' Capricorn Clark Ex-Combs employee Capricorn Clark said Combs came to her home waving a gun the day of the break-in and demanded she get dressed and go with him because 'we're going to kill Cudi.' After the break-in, Clark said, Combs told her she had to convince Cudi 'it wasn't me.' 'If you don't convince him of that I'll kill all you,' he said, punctuating his threat with an expletive, Clark recalled. Mia A former personal assistant testifying under the pseudonym 'Mia' said Combs put his hand up her dress and forcibly kissed her at his 40th birthday party in 2009, forced her to perform oral sex on another occasion and raped her in 2010. His lawyers say the claims are false. Confronted on cross examination with loving texts she sent Combs long after her employment had ended, she said: 'I was still brainwashed.' Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan Cassie's friend Bryana 'Bana' Bongolan testified that Combs dangled her over the railing of Cassie's 17th floor balcony and threw her onto patio furniture in September 2016, leaving her bruised and traumatized. But defense attorney Nicole Westmoreland exposed holes in her story on cross examination, showing that Combs was on tour on the East Coast in 2016 when she said she suffered the bruises shown to jurors in a picture she had taken of her injuries. George Kaplan George Kaplan said he'd toss out liquor bottles and drugs and clean up baby oil from Combs' hotel rooms. He said he quit after seeing Combs fighting with Cassie but didn't report it to authorities. Kaplan said he still sends Combs birthday greetings and invited him to his wedding. Kaplan told jurors he was grateful to work for Combs and still has 'a great deal of respect' for him. David James David James testified that Combs had him stock hotel rooms with baby oil, condoms, Viagra and other supplies while he worked up to 20-hour days as a personal assistant from May 2007 to May 2009. James said he saw Combs with three handguns on his lap as they drove to confront Combs' record industry rival Suge Knight in 2008. On another occasion, he testified, Combs asked him to bring his iPod from his residence to his hotel and, when nobody answered the door, he went in and saw Cassie on the bed in a white comforter and a 'completely naked' man he did not recognize who walked 'across the room and kind of scurried away.' Brendan Paul Brendan Paul, who worked as a personal assistant to Combs for about 18 months ending in March 2024, said he bought drugs for Combs including cocaine, ketamine, ecstasy and marijuana. His employment ended when he was arrested at a Miami, Florida airport for possession of cocaine, which he testified came from Combs' room. Deonte Nash Combs' lawyers confronted celebrity stylist Deonte Nash with messages he sent expressing love for Combs. Some of them were from 2019 and 2020, two years after their professional relationship ended. A reluctant witness for prosecutors, he nonetheless gave them insight into the relationship between Cassie and Combs, saying Cassie was 'quite often' left with bruises to her legs, arms and neck, besides an incident when Combs left her with a large, bloody gash above her eye during a beating. Dawn Richard Dawn Richard, a singer in the Bad Boy Records groups Danity Kane and Diddy — Dirty Money, testified that she witnessed Combs acting violently toward Cassie, including swinging at her with a skillet and beating her in 2009. She says Combs made a threat, which she took as a death threat, if she didn't keep quiet. Combs' lawyers contend Richard's story has been inconsistent and that she is motivated to speak against him because she is suing him

‘I'm not going back': What it was like to be Jewish at Glastonbury
'A friend had seen Kneecap play at Coachella [the music festival held in California in April] and told me not to go to Glastonbury,' says Suzi Sendama. 'He said he thought it would be more difficult for me than I thought it would be. I didn't grasp what he meant at the time.' After spending the weekend at the festival in Somerset, she now understands what her friend meant. A lawyer by day, Sendama, 42, has been going to Glastonbury for over 20 years. This was the first time she felt uncomfortable. 'What I've always loved about festivals is the ability to leave your life at the gate and enter a complete world of escapism, where it's just silly and fun and full of love and everybody supports each other, and you don't have to think about the horrific outside world,' she says. 'There's always awful things going on in the outside world to escape from. At the start of Ezra Collective's performance they said 'we want everyone to make friends'. Festivals are about those moments of love and unity. The rest of the weekend was not like that. 'I know that I'm part of an ethnic minority but you don't feel the hate every day. This weekend was pretty tough. It felt like a massive wake-up call as to the number of people who really do want to dismantle the state of Israel and that scares me. On Sunday, I had to take myself out of the event because I was so upset. People say 'you shouldn't feel threatened, it's not anti-Semitic,' but they would never dare tell a black person what is or isn't an anti-black racist statement.'' Sendama is not alone. Other Jewish attendees have been writing about the discomfort they felt over the weekend. In The Jewish Chronicle, Elisa Bray wrote that the 'stardust' of Glastonbury 'was lost this weekend.' When Jamie Peston, 44, who works in education, went to the festival for the first time last year, he 'fell in love with the chaos and the joy.' But after his experience this year, he wrote in a Facebook post entitled 'The Last Sunrise at Glastonbury: How a Festival of Freedom Turned Its Back on Jews Like Me' that he will not be returning. 'Before I went last year I was apprehensive and a lot of people thought I shouldn't be going, but I had a great time,' he tells The Telegraph. 'There were loads of Palestinian flags and keffiyehs, but that's not what Glastonbury is about, it's just what is portrayed [in the media]. I loved and enjoyed it this year, as well, but the context and detail and gravity of the anger, and the much more blatant anti-Semitism, had a huge impact on my experience. I'm not going back.' Apart from the general atmosphere around the festival, one incident in particular changed his mind. On Saturday afternoon, before a performance by the Australian punk band Amyl and the Sniffers, 'I realised I was in the middle of all the people who were holding Palestinian flags and wearing keffiyahs,' says Peston, who usually wears a kippah but didn't at Glastonbury. 'I got talking to a woman next to me. She asked if I'd seen Kneecap and I said no, then we had a chat, then suddenly in the middle of the conversation she said ' Oy vey ' at the end of a sentence. I jolted. I said 'What did you just say?' and she said 'it's Yiddish'. I said 'I know, are you Jewish?' and she said 'no.' I remembered in the back of my mind reading about people in these kinds of groups learning Yiddish phrases so they could work out who was Jewish and who was not. I realised then that I didn't want to be there any more.' Peston says his experience at Glastonbury was part of a trend of rising anti-Semitism. 'What we're seeing is a massive shift in what the mainstream thinks is acceptable and OK. It's making me feel significantly concerned and destabilised. While I champion free speech, I think there is a very clear line, which was crossed a long time ago. Part of the problem is the normalisation of extreme language.' Police have launched criminal investigations into the Glastonbury performances by Kneecap, an Irish rap group, and Bob Vylan, a punk duo from London. In May, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, a member of Kneecap who performs as Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence for allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a gig in London last November. Kneecap have been outspoken critics of Israel's war in Gaza. During Bob Vylan's performance on Saturday, singer Bobby Vylan led thousands of fans in chants of 'death, death to the IDF [Israel Defense Forces],' and spoke about working for a 'f------ Zionist.' The BBC, which screened the performance, issued a statement saying the 'anti-Semitic sentiments were utterly unacceptable.' In a separate statement, Glastonbury organisers said they were 'appalled' by the comments, which 'very much crossed a line.' Sir Keir Starmer condemned the 'appalling hate speech.' The chief rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, posted on social media that the 'airing of vile Jew-hatred at Glastonbury' and the botched response amounted to a ' time of national shame.' Bob Vylan have had their US visas rescinded ahead of a planned tour and have reportedly been dropped by their management. 'I'm not scared, and that's the irony of this whole situation,' says Peston. 'Zionism is simply the belief that Jews have the right to self-determination in our ancestral homeland. The existence of Israel means that, if things ever got truly dangerous, I could pack my bags and go somewhere safe – something Jews haven't always had the luxury of doing, often with disastrous consequences. So when I hear 'death to the IDF' it lands as something much deeper. It doesn't mean I support every action of the Israeli government or military. It means that the very idea of Jewish safety and continuity is being rejected, and that's profoundly unsettling.' For at least one Jewish attendee, Glastonbury was an opportunity to openly celebrate his faith. 'I have always worn a massive Star of David necklace,' says Matthew Waxman, 34. 'It's a big part of my identity. For a long time wearing it has been a mixed experience. On the one hand it stops people from making casual anti-Semitic remarks around me, but on the other hand it generates filthy looks from time to time. People who have a problem with it rarely say anything. Glastonbury was in line with that experience. 'The other reason I wear it is because it's not a pleasant time to be a Jew and I know a lot of people who hide their identity in public. I've had many experiences where people come up to me and say seeing someone being proudly visibly Jewish made them feel a bit safer or not alone. Again that was the case at Glastonbury. You can't let the b------- grind you down. There were pockets of genuine anti-Semitism at Glastonbury like there are everywhere, but I don't let anyone intimidate me.' Glastonbury will have a fallow year next year to allow the fields to recover. While war rages in Gaza, organisers of festivals and broadcasters – particularly the BBC – will continue to face the difficult question of where artistic freedom ends. For the Jewish festival-goers put off by their experience this time, that may not be enough. 'I'm sad that this place of unity and love from people from all walks of life felt like it's not for everybody any more,' says Suzi Sendama. 'I'm glad there's a break next year because it gives more of an opportunity for it to be rectified.'
