After Mahavatar Narsimha, Hombale Films' Chaluve Gowda confirms Mahavatar Chapter 2 to release by 2027
Riding the wave of success, Chaluve Gowda, co-founder of Hombale Films, the banner behind Mahavatar Narsimha, along with Kleem Productions, spoke with LiveMint in an exclusive interview, confirming the release date of the second instalment of the Mahavatar Cinematic Universe.
Chaluve Gowda: It feels immensely gratifying to present Mahavatar Narsimha. When director Ashwin Kumar and Shilpa (Kleem Productions) first met us, we knew we had something powerful, but we never imagined it would resonate at this scale. The love from the audience has exceeded all expectations. As a studio, we believed in the storytelling and the vision, but the way it has connected across generations has been deeply humbling.
Chaluve Gowda: Yes, it crossed the Kantara Hindi version. It's a proud moment for Hombale Films either way. Both Kantara and Mahavatar Narsimha come from very different creative spaces, Kantara rooted in folklore, Narasimha in epic mythology. The comparison is natural, but for us, it's about pushing boundaries with every film and we're grateful that audiences have embraced both so wholeheartedly.
Chaluve Gowda: It started with Ashwin Kumar's passion for Indian mythology and his vision of telling these stories in a format that today's generation can relate to, animation with cinematic depth. We instantly saw the potential for a larger universe. It is going to be something timeless, culturally rich and visually global.
Chaluve Gowda: Of course, there will be challenges for creating high-fidelity models of divine figures, to ensure the cultural and visual accuracy. But Ashwin Kumar, Kleem Production and the entire team worked closely to get every frame right.
Chaluve Gowda: Let the film speak for itself. We don't want to fixate on numbers, but I can say this: it was a deeply ambitious project and the investment reflects that. Quality comes at a cost and there should not be a compromise on that, especially when presenting a revered character like Narasimha.
Chaluve Gowda: It means a lot. When industry veterans and legends appreciate your work, it validates the years of effort put in by the entire team. Prabhas and Prashanth Neel have been part of the Hombale journey, so their support means a lot. Subhash Ghai's kind words were special, coming from someone who has shaped Indian cinema for decades; they were truly encouraging.
Chaluve Gowda: The team learnt a lot during the making of the first film; technically, creatively and logistically. The next chapter will certainly come faster. Ashwin Kumar is already deep in development, and I can assure fans that Chapter Two will be coming within two years.
Mahavatar Narsimha was released in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam in 2D and 3D formats.

West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Slams Akshay Kumar's Kesari 2 For Calling Khudiram Bose ‘Singh'
Last Updated: Mamata Banerjee slams Kesari Chapter 2 for calling Khudiram Bose 'Khudiram Singh', calling it an insult to Bengal's revolutionary hero. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has hit out at the makers of Kesari Chapter 2, accusing them of disrespecting Bengali revolutionary Khudiram Bose by calling him 'Khudiram Singh" in the film. Her sharp criticism came on the freedom fighter's death anniversary, as she paid tribute to one of India's youngest martyrs. In a social media post, Banerjee called the change an 'attack on the Bengali language" and questioned why the legacy of those who died for India's independence was being altered. 'My respectful obeisance on the death anniversary of revolutionary Khudiram Bose. Let me write something. Recently, in a Hindi film, revolutionary Khudiram was called 'Singh'. Why are those who gave their lives for freedom being insulted? Will language terrorists even hold onto the immortal revolutionary Khudiram?" she wrote. FIR Already Filed In Kolkata Against Filmmakers The controversy has been brewing for weeks. Back in June, an FIR was filed at Bidhannagar South police station against the producers for allegedly misrepresenting Khudiram Bose as 'Khudiram Singh" and portraying Barindra Kumar Ghosh as 'Birendra Kumar" from Amritsar. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, has now drawn fresh backlash following Banerjee's remarks. Bose, remembered for his role in the Muzaffarpur bomb case, was just 18 when he was hanged to death on 11 August 1908. Banerjee accused the film of erasing his roots. 'Our indomitable teenager from Midnapore has been shown as a son of Punjab. Unbearable! But we have always paid tribute to this man, a symbol of patriotism and supreme sacrifice," she posted. Bengal Government's Efforts to Honour Khudiram Bose The Chief Minister also detailed how her government has worked to preserve Bose's memory. 'For the further development of Mahabani and the adjacent areas, which are associated with the birth anniversary of Khudiram Bose, the Mahabani Development Authority has been established. Apart from this, everything has been done, from installing a statue of Shaheed Khudiram in Mahabani to renovating the library, a new spacious auditorium, conference room. An open stage has also been set up. In addition, modern cottages have been built for visitors, and the traditional Khudiram Park has been revived. The entire area has also been decorated with lights," she said. She added that Kolkata now has a metro station named after him, underlining the state's commitment to honouring his sacrifice. Coolie vs War 2 advance booking: This week is set to witness a massive box office clash, with Rajinikanth's much-awaited film Coolie releasing on the same day as Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2. With advance bookings for both films now underway, the competition has grown even more fierce. For now, Coolie holds the lead in advance booking sales. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, War 2 has secured more screens than Coolie across India. While Rajinikanth's Coolie has 7,338 shows pan-India, War 2 will be screened at 8,510 shows, as of 9 am, 12 August. Despite leading with a larger number of shows, Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2 has sold 1,26,287 tickets in advance booking sales for day 1. Comparatively better, Coolie has sold a whopping 8,35,850 tickets for day 1, which is about 561.7% more than the YRF's spy-thriller. Coolie is likely to have a bigger opening day business than War 2. However, there's still time for Hrithik and Jr NTR's film to catch up with Coolie's numbers. In terms of revenue, War 2 has raked in ₹ 4.11 crore from advance booking sales for its release day. Considering the blocked seats, it is set to premiere with a business of ₹ 8.54 crore. On the other hand, Rajinikanth's Coolie has minted ₹ 17.72 crore alone from day 1 advance booking, which is already higher than the total estimated business of War 2. Considering blocked seats, Coolie is eyeing a debut with ₹ 24.28 crore, which is an impressive figure. War 2 will release in Hindi (across 2D, IMAX, DOLBY, 4DX, and other formats), Tamil (2D), and Telugu (2D, 4DX). Coolie will release originally in Tamil with dubbed versions in Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada languages, in 2D formats. While the Hindi 2D format of War 2 leads with the highest number of Day 1 tickets sold, Coolie has recorded the maximum sales among its Tamil audience. War 2 is directed by Ayan Mukerji. It stars Hrithik, Jr NTR alongside Kiara Advani. The film marks Jr NTR's Bollywood debut. War 2 was passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A 16+ certificate.
