2025 Twelve Hours of Sebring starting lineup: Vanthoor, BMW win second consecutive pole
Dries Vanthoor got off to a fast start in the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, earning the second consecutive pole position for BMW in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
For his qualifying debut at Sebring International Raceway, Vanthoor turned a 1 minute, 47.091-second lap in the No. 24 BMW M Hybrid V8 for Team RLL BMW and backed up the pole position that he won for the Rolex 24 at Daytona season opener.
After Daytona, we knew we had a good qualifying car, but it's the first time here,' Vanthoor told NBC Sports' Kevin Lee on Peacock. 'So it's really cool to be on pole the first time here. The comeptition is very hard, so it's never easy to do but very happy we got a lap in and get ourselves on pole.'
The No. 24 BMW, which is co-driven by Vanthoor, Philipp Eng and Kevin Magnussen, finished fourth at Daytona after leading 90 laps. The Sebring pole was another indicator that BMW is emerging as a premier class contender after winning only twice in the past two seasons of Grand Touring Prototype category.
'So far it's looking quite good but still a long ways to go,' said Vanthroor, a 26-year-old from Belgium in his first season of full-time racing in IMSA's top division. 'It's a long ways to go tomorrow, that's first on our list, and we can see after that how it goes.'
Tom Blomqvist qualified second at 1:47.116 in the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-06, coming up just 0.025 seconds short on his final qualifying lap of knocking Vanthoor off the pole.
Felipe Nasr qualified third in the No. 7 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 that opened the season with its second consecutive victory in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
The GTP qualifying session was abbreviated by a 6-minute red flag after the No. 31 Whelen Action Express Cadillac V-Series.R stopped on track. That left Vanthoor and other drivers with one last shot at the bumpy and challenging 17-turn, 3.74-mile road course.
'On a normal qualifying session, you maybe get two chances, now you only had one,' said Vanthoor, whose car is sporting a special livery to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW North America and the automaker's 1975 win at Sebring. 'It makes a bit more pressure to get that lap together. It makes it a bit more difficult. But yeah, it makes me a bit fired up or nervous at the same time. Looks like it's working.'

NASCAR to have podium celebrations for top three finishers in Cup, Xfinity races in Mexico
For the first time after a Cup points race, NASCAR will honor the top three finishers with a podium celebration next weekend in Mexico. While podium celebrations are common in other forms of racing, including Formula One and IndyCar, NASCAR celebrates only the winner in its U.S.-based series. The only time NASCAR has had a podium celebration in Cup was for the Clash at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum exhibition races from 2022-24. That was done in a nod to the historic venue having hosted the Olympics. The top three drivers received medals — gold for the winner, silver for second place and bronze for third place. NASCAR will have podium celebrations for the top three finishers for its Xfinity Series and Cup Series races June 14-15 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. That weekend will represent the first international Cup points race since 1958. 'For this historic weekend, it felt appropriate to recognize the heritage of Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez and give a nod to the traditional international motorsports celebrations,' NASCAR stated to NBC Sports. 'There are currently no plans for podium-style celebrations following the Mexico City event.' The NASCAR Mexico Series also will have podium finishes after its races June 13-14 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as it does for all its races. Dustin Long, While podium finishes are not an official statistic for NASCAR, Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson each have had the most top-three finishes this season. Both have six in the first 14 Cup points races of the year. Bell has three wins, two runner-ups and a third-place finish. Larson has three wins, one runner-up and two third-place results. Denny Hamlin and William Byron are next with five podium results each. Hamlin has two wins, two runner-ups and a third-place finish. Byron has one win, three runner-ups and a third-place result. Ryan Blaney, who won last weekend's race at Nashville Superspeedway. completes the top five. He has three podiums, scoring one win, no runner-up results and two third-place finishes.

Accidents: Accident damages three parked vehicles
Jun. 4—No citations were issued Monday in a domino-effect accident involving four vehicles in Creston. According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 9:49 p.m. a 2008 Pontiac G6, driven by Jason A. Lohoff, 52, of Creston, was southbound on Elm Street when Lohoff says three people ran into the street and caused him to swerve. As Lohoff swerved, the Pontiac clipped the driver's side mirror of a 2021 Cadillac CT4, then struck a 2013 BMW 328XI, both legally parked on the west side of the street. The BMW was pushed forward causing it to hit a 2022 Hyundai Kona, parked in front of it. Damage to the Pontiac was estimated at $1,500; damage to the Cadillac was estimated at $300; damage to the BMW was estimated at $1,500 and damage to the Hyundai was estimated at $400. — — — — — No injuries were reported in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday in the Iowa State Savings Bank parking lot off of Taylor Street in Creston. According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:17 a.m. a 2023 Chrysler Voyager, driven by Ashely M. Hysell, 38, of Corydon, was exiting the parking lot when Hysell realized she had forgotten something. Hysell put the van in reverse and began backing up through the lot and struck a concrete pole. Damage to the Chrysler was estimated at $2,500. No damage was caused to the pole.
