Umbrellas distributed
Rajamahendravaram: Rajamahendravaram city MLA Adireddy Srinivas appreciated the thoughtful initiative of Swarnandhra Seva Samiti for distributing umbrellas to small traders and street vendors in Rajamahendravaram, offering them protection from harsh sun and rain.
The distribution event was held on Friday at MLA's office, where umbrellas were handed over to roadside vendors, cycle mechanics, and other workers engaged in petty trades.
Swarnandhra's coordinator Dr Gubbala Rambabu praised the support of TDP city general secretary B Radhakrishna for this programme. He also informed that any small vendor in need of an umbrella can approach their office near Lala Cheruvu with an Aadhaar card and photograph for assistance. TDP leaders Chapala Raju, Ajjarapu Ramesh, Dasyam Prasad, and Surya Naidu were present at the event.

Early onset of monsoon may impact TDP's Mahanadu in Kadapa
Tirupati: While the stage is set for the grand conduct of the TDP's maiden Mahanadu at Kadapa from Tuesday, the early onset of the Southwest monsoon in the Rayalaseema region of the state on Monday poses a litmus test for the ruling party's annual conclave. Following the Indian Meteorological Department's announcement of the Southwest monsoon setting in the state on Monday, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu expressed great joy over the advanced arrival of the Southwest monsoon in the state in May itself. But back in Kadapa, where arrangements for the TDP's annual conclave were in full swing, tension gripped the committee members and organisers following a short spell of rain reported near the venue at Pabbapuram village in the outskirts of Kadapa, as rains coinciding with Mahanadu could prove to be a dampener. State irrigation minister Nimmala Rama Naidu sported a shovel and got into the act with other party workers to level the ground near the venue which was dampened due to the sudden rains on Monday. While German sheds have been erected, covering most parts of the venue and could provide comfortable shelter despite isolated rainfall during the first 2-days of the Mahanadu on Tuesday and Wednesday, the ruling party will face a major challenge on the final day if there is a cloudburst as more than five lakh people from across the state are expected to take part in the final day's proceedings followed by Chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu's public meeting on May 29. With the IMD predicting thundershowers accompanied with isolated heavy rainfall for Kadapa district on all the three days coinciding with the TDP's Mahanadu dates between May 27and May 29, it remains to be seen how the ruling party would handle the on-ground situation.

Soaring temperatures prompt heat awareness drive in Swarnandhra campaign
Tirupati: District Collector Dr S Venkateswar on Saturday urged people to stay cautious in view of the soaring summer temperatures, which have prompted authorities to choose 'Beat the Heat' as the theme for this month's 'Swarnandhra – Swachh Andhra' campaign. Participating in the programme at Naidupet in Sullurpet constituency, the Collector reminded that the campaign has been held on the third Saturday of every month since January, with a new theme each time to address local and seasonal issues. He said, 'May has seen an alarming rise in temperatures, often crossing 42°C in several regions. With heatwave conditions intensifying since April, we are taking special measures to ensure people, especially children and the elderly, are not adversely affected. As part of the campaign, Dr Venkateswar noted that initiatives such as planting saplings, setting up free drinking water kiosks, and placing water troughs for birds and animals under the employment guarantee scheme were being actively pursued. Distribution of ORS packets to households is also underway to help prevent dehydration. He called on citizens to participate actively in door-to-door waste collection to ensure effective waste segregation. Sullurpet MLA N Vijayasree, who also took part in the event, stressed the importance of public participation in maintaining cleanliness. 'If everyone keeps their surroundings clean, we can prevent many health issues,' she stated. Ahead of the main programme, the District Collector and the MLA planted saplings along both sides of the road near Gomati Centre. Later, they inaugurated facilities for bird care – providing millets, drinking water, and shaded shelters at Gandhi Municipal Park. Former MP Nelavala Subrahmanyam, Naidupet Municipal Chairperson Katakam Deepika, Vice-Chairman Sheikh Rafi, Municipal Commissioner Fazlulla, Tahsildar Rajendra, and several other officials took part.
