‘Take On Me' singer Morten Harket diagnosed with Parkinson's disease
Morten Harket shared that he was working on completing a song but didn't know if he could continue his singing career.
A-ha frontman Morten Harket, the voice behind the 1985 megahit Take On Me, was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, the Norwegian band's website confirmed in a Wednesday article.
The 65-year-old said that he had 'no problem accepting the diagnoses' and stressed, 'With time, I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: 'I use whatever works'."
"I'm trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline. It's a difficult balancing act between taking the medication and managing its side effects,' he shared.
Harket also revealed that he had undergone two different brain surgeries. Last June, he underwent deep brain stimulation, which saw "electrodes were implanted deep inside the left side of his brain." In December, he underwent a similar procedure on the right side of his brain.
While the singer is revealing his diagnosis now, the news is not new to him, and it took some time before he was able to share the details of his diagnosis with fans.
"Part of me wanted to reveal it," Harket told band biographer Jan Omdahl. "Like I said, acknowledging the diagnosis wasn't a problem for me; it's my need for peace and quiet to work that has been stopping me.
While Harket's voice has been enjoyed by fans for decades, the star affirmed that now might be the time he put away the microphone for good.
"The problems with my voice are one of many grounds for uncertainty about my creative future," he said. '...I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign.'
"I see singing as my responsibility, and at certain moments I think it's absolutely fantastic that I get to do it,' he shared "But I've got other passions too, I have other things that are just as big a part of me, that are just as necessary and true."
While his future in music remains unclear, Harket shared that he was working on a song at the moment. "Time will tell if they make it. I really like the idea of just going for it, as a Parkinson's patient and an artist, with something completely outside the box. It's all up to me, I just have to get this out of the way first," he shared.
Parkinson's disease is a condition in which parts of the brain become progressively damaged, according to Britain's National Health Service. The process happens over several years and progressively worsens in most cases.
A loss of nerve cells the substantia nigra reduces dopamine in the brain, which causes the body to struggle to regulate body movement.
The main symptoms of Parkinson's disease include involuntary tremors, slow movement, and stiff or inflexible muscles.
While experts remain divided on the causes of Parkinson's disease, it is thought to be the result of a mix of genetic and environmental factors.

'There is an entire generation of people who are watching 'Young Sheldon' for the first time, and then they realize there is an entire 12 years of a show after 'Young Sheldon,' so it's the greatest gift,' Nayyar gushed, 'and it was one of the greatest periods of our life, and we are all so lucky to have lived it.' That's the family, and the family always stays together,' the actor told The Post. Looking back at his time on set, the comedian admitted that it was hard to stay in character while dealing with a room full of hilarious stars. And one funny man, in particular, is to blame. 'You know, Simon Helberg, who played Wolowitz, is still the funniest human to have ever lived,' Nayyar stated. 'Any time I'm in a scene with him, he would just do something that would set me off. 'And every time I needed to book a flight for my parents to come visit me, it's like, 'Can you please scan your passport? Can I get your license? I've got to fill this out. So, I was like, why don't we have one place, a digital storehouse for the family, where we can create a place that is safe and encrypted for us to share sensitive documents.' 'It's not just a digital storehouse for sensitive, familial documents; it's also a place [where] you can upload photographs and memories. I hope ultimately it becomes a digital file you can then hand down to generations in the family.'

The Peach Milkshake is returning to Chick-fil-A! The popular seasonal dessert is returning to the chain for its 16th anniversary and will be available nationwide beginning Monday, June 9. They are available for a limited time at participating restaurants nationwide starting June 9 through Aug. 16. You can now pre-order Pokémon Legends: Z-A for the Switch and Switch 2
Pokémon Legends: Z-A , the much-awaited follow-up to 2022's P okémon Legends: Arceus, is now available for pre-order. You can get the digital version for the old Switch for $60 or for the new Switch 2 for $70 from Nintendo's website. In case you have no plans to get the Switch 2 anytime soon and you do get the game for the first Switch console, you can purchase an upgrade pack for $10 to get access to better graphics and higher frame rate for Nintendo's new system later on. Pre-ordering lets you pre-load the game so you can play it as soon as it becomes available on October 16. The action role-playing game is not just a follow-up to Arceus , but also a sequel to Pokémon X and Y . It's set in Lumiose City, introduced in X and Y over a decade ago, and features three available starters: Chikorita and Totodile from Gold and Silver , as well as Tepig from Black and White . Its gameplay is a mix of the real-time capture mechanics on Arceus and the old-school turn-based gameplay of traditional Pokémon titles.
