MN: Jovic shines and gives Conceicao clear instructions – 'Play with another striker'

Yahoo06-04-2025

Luka Jovic has been one of the best AC Milan players in the last few games, bagging two goals, and he has sent a clear message to the head coach Sergio Conceicao.
Following an early substitution of Yunus Musah last night, in the 2-2 draw against Fiorentina, Conceicao decided to put Jovic on the pitch as second striker. He ended up scoring the deicisve equaliser, bagging his second goal in as many games.
As highlighted by MilanNews, it was a sublime performance from the Serbian, who found space between the lines and often dropped down to help. It was a match that displayed all the (hidden) talent of Jovic who, let's remember, played for Real Madrid five years ago.
He will be decisive for Milan in the season finale, above all in the Coppa Italia, as Santiago Gimenez has struggled to have the desired impact. Furthermore, Jovic seems to be working very well alongside Tammy Abraham, who has been in great form lately as well.
'I feel better when I play with another striker, because I can act as a second striker, with more freedom of movement. I don't have the physical structure to carry the attack alone. I'm not that type of player. I can attack the depth five times in a game, but not twenty-five times. And this is precisely one of the aspects that put me in difficulty at Fiorentina,' he said to MozzartSport recently.
In other words, Jovic has provided Conceicao with the recipe and now it remains to be seen if the Portuguese manager will continue on this path. It would certainly make sense to give the Serbian more time from start as well.

Viktor Gyokeres could join Man United to live near Erling Haaland

Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres is likely to move to the Red Devils so he can live near Erling Haaland, it has been claimed. That's the view of musician Tom Grennan, who says he knows the Swedish striker well from his time playing for Coventry City, the club he supports. Advertisement Gyokeres is right at the top of United manager Ruben Amorim's wishlist for the summer transfer window after bagging over 50 goals last season and 43 the year before under his tutelage for Sporting CP. For comparison United's current squad managed only 44 league goals between them last season, so it's little wonder the Portuguese boss is looking at a reunion with his prize striker from his time in Lisbon. The 27-year-old is said to be furious that Sporting CP reneged on the gentleman's agreement to let him leave the club for less than the €80m they are now demanding, and has even told them he will never play for them again as a result. With his future seemingly away from Portugal, United are a distinct possibility for his next destination, especially with Arsenal's priority striker signing now looking like RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko. Advertisement And according to Grennan, Gyokeres will be delighted with a move to Manchester as he can live next door to his best friend, Manchester City striker Haaland. The musician told the BBC podcast You About?, via the Daily Mirror: 'I know him well. I actually messaged him and he said that there's different conversations going on. 'Do you know who his best friend is? Haaland. That is why I think he'll go to Manchester United because he'll be next door to Haaland.' Should he end up becoming a Red Devil, the Old Trafford faithful will be hoping he emulates the towering Norwegian's performances in England where he has 121 goals in 142 matches for City. Advertisement Since missing out on Haaland things haven't quite worked out for United's reinforcements at centre-forward, with Rasmus Hojlund the highest-profile arrival in that position. After a dismal campaign saw him on the scoresheet in the Premier League just four times, he may be set for a summer move to Inter Milan as Amorim looks for reliable goals up front. Exclusive: Chelsea reject €30m bids for midfielder from Premier League teams

Chelsea are getting their squad sorted for the Club World Cup and next season, and that means a busy few weeks. Chelsea dealing with their loan army one by one Andrey Santos in Strasbourg training. There are transfers incoming – Liam Delap has been signed and various others are being strongly linked. But there's also the question of what to do with all of the players returning from loan. Advertisement It's felt like the giant squad of last summer was a problem of the past, but so many players who were 'out of sight, out of mind' are now back and will need to find a new home once again. Many of them – Raheem Sterling, Armando Broja, Lesley Ugochukwu, the list goes on – we expect to be sold. But there are others who feel like they have a strong chance of staying. Chief among that group is Andrey Santos. His second half of last season was impressive enough that there some some consideration of him staying for this season just passed, so after a brilliant 12 months on loan with Strasbourg, we're sure he's joining the squad. Chelsea reject €30m offers out of hand We've heard whispers about the club considering selling him, but our sources have told us exclusively that that's not on the cards. Verbal offers of €30m were rejected out of hand by Chelsea, who probably wouldn't even sell for double that. He's just joined up with the Brazil squad, hoping to add a second cap and another chunk of change to his value. It's not clear who those bids came from – but Arsenal, AC Milan, Juventus and PSG are all apparently interested. From what we can see, Santos looks ready to be a key part of our squad, and nobody is ready to make us an offer we can't refuse.

Sporting president issues shock Viktor Gyokeres statement amid transfer uncertainty

Sporting president Frederico Varandas has issued an extraordinary statement regarding the future of Viktor Gyokeres. According to reports in Portugal, the 27-year-old Swede believes he has a deal with his current employers that will let him depart the Jose Alvalade Stadium should an offer of €60million plus €10m (£58m) arrive. That, however, has now been publicly disregarded by Sporting chief Varandas, which has reportedly left Gyokeres feeling 'furious' that a promise to him made at the beginning of the season has been broken. After 'days' of speculation, Varandas has moved to clarify the club's stance and asking price for Gyokeres, and taken aim at the player's agent. Threats, blackmail and insults do not work with me. And I can guarantee one thing: Viktor will not leave for €60m plus €10m Sporting president Frederico Varandas "I tried to take three days off, I came back yesterday,' he said, via Portuguese journalist Sebastiao Sousa-Pinto. 'I saw so much information and counter-information that it is only fair to come and explain the process. 'It started last year, when the season ended and Sporting became national champions. During the transfer market we saw that he was going to stay because there was no offer. The agent spoke to us to add some clauses. [Sporting's former sporting director] Hugo Viana, as he always did, and very well, managed the relationship with the agents. 'One of the agent's biggest concerns was whether we would demand the termination clause. Hugo Viana negotiated with the agents over several meetings until the agent demanded the presence of the president. At this meeting, which included the president, the agent and Viana, Gyokeres was not present. He wanted to guarantee certain things. 'And what was agreed? That Sporting would not demand a release clause now. For one reason: he was going to be 27 years old and no player leaves Portugal at 27 for 100 or 90 million. With this game that the agent is playing, the situation is only getting worse. To date, Sporting have not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres. Not today or last summer Sporting president Frederico Varandas 'In that same meeting, the agent wanted to anchor the exit to a value. I said this sentence: 'It's not worth us setting a value because I don't know what will happen in a year's time. I don't know if it will be €40m, €60m or €80m. What I can guarantee is that I will not demand €100m.' 'From then on, I never spoke to the agent again, I never spoke to the player about departures or values. Now I see the agent in the press releasing information. 'I want to make one thing clear: Sporting has common sense and keeps its word. 'Gyokeres scored 63 goals and 10 assists. Fantastic performance. Certainly one of the best players to have ever stepped onto Portuguese turf. And even so, Sporting will not demand the release clause. 'They should know me better by now. Threats, blackmail and insults do not work with me. And I can guarantee one thing: Viktor will not leave for €60m plus €10m. I never promised this. 'With this game that the agent is playing, the situation is only getting worse. To date, Sporting have not had an offer for Viktor Gyokeres. Not today or last summer. 'Viktor Gyokeres is one of the best footballers in the history of Portuguese football, he is a fantastic professional, to date he has had zero offers and has a three-year contract.'
