CM Nitish Kumar conducts aerial survey of flood affected areas in Bihar
Mr. Kumar inspected Raghopur Diara of Vaishali district, Kala Diara, Rupas Mahaji, Ramnagar, Kasaha Diara of Patna district and the taal (riverine) area of Mokama, Barh and Fatuha.
He also took stock of the situation by conducting an aerial survey of the flood affected areas of Begusarai and Munger districts.
While giving instructions to the officials during the aerial survey, the Chief Minister said that the Water Resources Department should be fully alert and keep monitoring the water level in the low lying areas continuously.
He also instructed that the District Magistrates of the concerned district should keep a close watch on the situation and engineers should remain alert and senior officials should continue camping at the site.
'The Disaster Management Department should keep monitoring continuously so that the flood affected people do not face any problem. In case of flood, keep providing full assistance to the affected people as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Do relief and rescue work with full alertness and sensitivity,' Mr. Kumar said after the aerial survey in a press statement.
The Chief Minister asserted that according to the SOP, detailed guidelines have been given to all the districts and related departments, which should be followed strictly.
'Full arrangements should be made like operation of boats, distribution of polythene sheets, availability of relief material, medicines and animal food. Flood shelter, community kitchen and District Emergency Operation Center should remain functional round the clock so that immediate relief can be provided to the people,' Mr. Kumar said.
Chief Minister's Principal Secretary Deepak Kumar and Disaster Management Department's Secretary Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh were present with the CM during the aerial survey.
On Wednesday (August 14, 2025), Mr. Kumar held a high level review meeting with the District Magistrates of all ten districts to get the updates and had given instructions to ensure all help to the people affected due to flood.

No damage to Polavaram upper cofferdam: Officials
VIJAYAWADA: There is no damage to the upper cofferdam of the Polavaram Irrigation Project as projected in a section of media and social media, clarified senior engineers of the Water Resources Department. In a post on X on Saturday, BRS working president KT Rama Rao alleged that the Polavaram cofferdam, part of the national project under the NDA government, had collapsed for the second time. He claimed it sank 7–8 feet over a 10-foot width, and was being repaired covertly on a war footing. He also questioned whether the National Dam Safety Authority was aware of the issue, implying oversight failure. When contacted by TNIE, Polavaram project officials denied any damage to the upper cofferdam, calling the claims grossly misrepresented. They explained that on August 15, the river water level stood at 28.5 metres, while the cofferdam's top stands at 44 metres. A minor mass slide occurred on a 3-metre by 2-metre section on the downstream side of the cofferdam's top portion, which was unrelated to water flow, according to an official. The affected section was promptly repaired, and vehicle movement on the cofferdam, which doubles as a road, continued without disruption. They emphasised that this minor incident has no bearing on the project works, which are progressing at a brisk pace.

‘Investigate, don't intimidate': Congress on Election Commission press conference
Shortly after the Election Commission held a press conference defending the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, the Congress on Sunday asked the poll panel to 'investigate' the allegations raised by Opposition parties and not to 'intimidate' them. Jairam Ramesh, the party general secretary in charge of communications, also claimed that the Election Commission stood ' thoroughly exposed ' for its 'incompetence and blatant partisanship'. He also said that no political party had lodged objections so far after the draft roll was published on August 1. Kumar added that the main purpose of the revision exercise was to 'purify' the voter list, adding that it was carried out after receiving several complaints from political parties. Party workers had told the newspaper that when they flag the deletion of names of eligible voters through complaints, the electoral registration officers tell them to ask the voters to submit Form 6, which is for the registration of new voters. As part of the exercise, persons whose names were not on the 2003 voter list needed to submit proof of eligibility to vote. The draft voter roll was published on August 1 ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls expected to take place in October or November. The list will be revised by September after the Election Commission assesses objections and claims about the exclusion and inclusion of voters in the draft roll. Justifying its decision to undertake SIR exercise in Bihar, EC said all the political parties had, for the past two decades, been demanding that imperfections in electoral roll be corrected. "Acting on this demand, EC decided to take up SIR, starting with Bihar," he told a press conference here, while adding that the timeline for SIR in other poll-bound states will be announced "at the appropriate time". Slamming the "vote theft" allegations levelled by opposition parties and their chiefs, EC said the electors, party representatives and booth level officers on the ground are working in a harmonious and transparent manner, endorsing the exercise with their signatures and video testimonials.
