Cap-Saint-Jacques beach: Police may resume search for person possibly lost in water
Montreal police (SPVM) says it may resume its search for a possible missing person at Cap-Saint-Jacques beach in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough. Officers received a 911 call Tuesday at 6:40 p.m. about a person who was potentially in distress in the water. The beach was completely cleared to make way for an operation, including searches on the ground and water, but officers did not find any signs of a body or a person in need of help. 'We're still not sure if it's true,' said Julien Lévesque, a spokesperson with Montreal police, adding the force is still determining whether or not to continue its investigation. This comes after a man died Monday in a suspected drowning at Verdun Beach. On June 7, Montreal police also recovered the body of a 20-year-old man who had drowned there. So far this year, there have been 25 drownings in Quebec, compared to last year's 24. There was a total of 60 drownings in the province in 2024, down from 85 in 2023.
