Trump rips into 'real loser' Fox News host after NYC shooting comments

Daily Mail6 days ago
President Donald Trump insulted Fox News host Jessica Tarlov on Wednesday after she reacted to the Midtown Manhattan shooting and called for more gun control.
Trump weighed in on Tarlav's comments on the Fox News show 'The Five' as he returned home from Scotland aboard Air Force One.
'I can't stand Jessica Tarlov of THE FIVE. A real loser!!! DJT,' wrote Trump at 5:13 pm on social media.
Tarlov is a former political strategist for the Democratic party and appears on the network as the 'token liberal' to share her left-of-center opinions about politics and current events.
The president commented on Tarlov after endorsed Gov. Kathy Hochul 's reflection on gun control, calling for an assault weapons ban.
'We did have an assault weapons ban from 1994 to 2004, we saw a decrease in mass shootings in this country, 70 percent less likely to happen. And then when the ban sunsetted, it spiked back up,' Tarlov said, referring to Hochul's remarks.
Tarlov also suggested that someone with a 'documented mental health history' should have not had a concealed carry license for a gun.
'How are these things happening? And I don't think that it hurts the conversation or takes us backward at all to consider how we might prevent one of these things from happening,' she said.
Tarlov also defended CNN's Erin Burnett who was criticized for describing the now-deceased shooter, Shane Tamura, as 'possibly white' in the initial reporting from the shooting, even as the photo showed a man with dark hair and complexion.
'I saw all over social media that the perpetrator was of Middle Eastern descent, and people were jumping to that before we found out that actually it wasn't the case at all. He's an American, half black, half Japanese,' Tarlov said.
'Yeah, that's social media though. CNN should know better,' co-host Greg Gutfeld replied.
Tamura drove across the country with an M4 semiautomatic rifle and entered the Midtown Manhattan office building and opened fire in the lobby before taking the elevator to the 33rd floor, according to officials.
He killed four people including a NYPD police officer and injured one other person before turning his rifle on himself and committing suicide.
It's not the first time the president has criticized Tarlov, as he appears to be an avid watcher of 'The Five' Fox News program.
In June, the president complained about Tarlov after she brought up the president's negative poll numbers on the show.
'Why does Fox News allow failed TV personality Jessica Tarlov to 'soil' The Five?' Trump wrote on social media. 'Her voice, her manner, and above all else, what she says, are a disgrace to television broadcasting.'
Trump added that 'people like Jessica Tarlov make MAGA absolutely hate Fox!'
'Nobody can stand Tarlov!' he continued. 'She lies over and over again, and MAGA is complaining, BIG LEAGUE, that she's all over Fox. Watch their ratings go down by keeping her on the show — nobody wants to listen to her.'

City manager filmed trying to fire cop after being pulled over for speeding

An angry Oklahoma lawmaker was filmed trying to fire a police officer after being pulled over for speeding. Konawa City Manager Daniel Bruton launched into a tirade after he was stopped by a local police officer on July 14 for racing his truck down the road. The bodycam footage showed the officer, only identified as Johnathan, pulling up behind Bruton's car as he stood on the road and screamed: 'I'm trying to get the water back on.' SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO Bruton, 52, later revealed he was on his way to a water emergency in the city, but the officer continued with the traffic stop. 'OK, but let's slow down. Let's do it safely,' the officer told Bruton. 'This is my job, this is what I was hired to do.' 'Well, this is my job and I'm your boss! And I'm in a hurry,' Bruton replied. 'It doesn't matter, you have to obey the law like everybody else,' the officer said as Bruton went threatened him: 'You're about to not have a job.' He then got back in his truck and continued to scream at the officer. 'Now, go get your a** back in the truck and go back to town,' he said, still pointing his finger at the officer. 'I'm trying to be respectful here,' the cop said as Bruton cut him off and shouted: 'I'm not being respectful!' After his outburst, the officer let Bruton leave - but that was not the last he saw of the city manager. Bruton found the officer back at the station, where he continued to tell the cop off. Further body cam footage showed Bruton in the doorway of the police station continuing to complain and threaten the officer. 'So, when these firemen and police officers are in a hurry to get somewhere - they're speeding. I was in a hurry to get somewhere,' Bruton said, adding: 'So, let me tell you something. When I got out of the truck and told you there was a water emergency, that's when you should've ended it.' The officer responded: 'OK, not gonna end it right there. Listen to me, just because you're city manager...' Bruton responded: 'I'm not saying that. I had a water emergency, OK? I promise you. me driving 35mph up a 25mph road is not that big a deal to me when the people in Konawa don't have no water. 'I'll explain this to you and I'll explain this to Bryan. If you have a problem with that, then you might as well pack your s*** and head out the door right now.' 'Listen to me,' the officer said before Bruton shouted: 'I'm not gonna listen to you! I'm your boss! You do what I say.' 'It doesn't matter, you can't break the law like that,' the cop responded. 'People break the law! If you got a problem with it then write me a f***ing ticket and then I'll deal with you in there,' Bruton went on. The city manager then called someone to inform him he was going to fire the cop 'right now', adding that the officer 'still continued to run his mouth with me'. The video ended with Bruton storming off after the officer said 'we're done'. Bruton later told News4 he was 'ashamed' and 'embarrassed' of his actions that day. He told the outlet: 'He just caught the brunt of that from a situation that day. I didn't mean anything towards him. He does a good job and I apologized to him, and I'm making a public apology to him now. 'I'm embarrassed by it, I'm ashamed of it. My family, I put them in this and I'm ashamed that the city had to even endure it. So I'm hoping that we can get past it and I can grow from it as well.' Despite his apology, locals are livid with the way Bruton acted that day, with some calling for his resignation. 'He was only embarrassed and ashamed when it was made public we still need a new city manager,' one wrote on Facebook. Another commented: 'It's funny how he's embarrassed now that the whole world can see what an absolute jerk he is. What a pathetic excuse for a human!'

Clip of glam Sydney Sweeney expertly shooting targets goes viral as her ‘secret MAGA life' emerges after anti-woke ad

A CLIP of Sydney Sweeney blasting targets at a shooting range has gone viral - as she's adopted by the MAGA movement and praised by Trump. The video resurfaced after President Trump heaped praise on the actress's "anti-woke" American Eagle jeans advert and she was revealed to be a registered Republican. 9 9 The clip from 2019 shows a younger Sydney expertly burying rounds into a series of human-shaped dummies at the firing range. She appears well-practiced, skilfully banging two bullets into each in quick succession without so much as a flinch. At the end, she flashes a smile to the camera and holsters the weapon. Since Sydney starred in the controversial American Eagle jeans ad, clues that point to her living a secret MAGA life have emerged. The 27-year-old grew up in a small, Catholic, Trump-supporting town in Washington with her father, mother and younger brother Trent - and has previously said she had a "religious" upbringing. After accepting her breakout Euphoria role, Sydney revealed she had been nervous about how her community would react. She told Stylecaster in 2021: "What's crazy - and this is going to sound really bad- is when I first got sent the audition, I was too nervous to go do it. A surprise party she threw for her mom's 60th birthday drew considerable attention when pics were shared of the guests wearing MAGA-style hats and "Blue Lives Matter" shirts. And now, she has starred in the American Eagle ad which has seriously riled voices on the left, who claim it promotes a racial ideal, but delighted the right who hail it as the "end of woke advertising". Trump pours praise on Sydney Sweedy amid 'good jeans' American Eagle ad storm as her voter registration revealed The ad makes a play on the words "jeans" and "genes" - and the main tagline is "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans". It's been claimed that the promotion of Sydney's blonde hair and blue eye traits suggests they are superior to alternative genes. Sydney hasn't publicly commented on the furore stirred up by the ad, but made her first appearance at a screening of her upcoming film "Americana" on Monday. She was heckled by a fan who shouted: "Stop the ad, that is being racist," according to TMZ. 9 9 9 However, she got into her vehicle without responding. American Eagle defended its advertisement, but removed the video from its social media accounts. It then emerged over the weekend that the actress has been a registered Republican since June 2024 - and she soon received praise right from the top. President Trump was delighted when a reporter told him about Sydney's political leanings, and promptly declared that he "loves" her "fantastic" ad. He said on Sunday night: "That's one I wouldn't have known but I'm glad you told me that. 9 9 'If Sydney Sweeny is a registered Republican, I think her ad is fantastic.' Trump then doubled down on his enthusiastic support and cemented the American Eagle ad as a bastion of the "anti-woke" agenda. He declared in a Monday morning Truth Social post that the campaign is "the HOTTEST" and went on to slam "woke" companies like "stupid" Jaguar and Bud Light for their own advertising. Jaguar recently put out an ad with models dressed in brightly-coloured, flamboyant clothing - but no cars or the brand's logo. Trump insisted the British manufacturer, whose CEO resigned on last week, should have learned from Bug Light - which suffered a boycott and major losses after an advert featuring a transgender influencer. The President's conclusion: "Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be." What is the American Eagle controversy? JEANS brand American Eagle sparked a social media frenzy and intense controversy with its latest ad campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney. The series of ads make a play on the words "jeans" and "genes". Their most controversial element is the tagline: "Sydney Sweeney has great jeans," which some have interpreted as implying her blonde hair, blue eye traits are superior to others. Critics claim that the ads glorify a specific beauty standard and racial ideal. TikTok videos commenting on the campaign have racked up millions of view, and some of the ad clips have been removed from the brand's official accounts. However, American Eagle released a statement defending its campaign, insisting: "'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans." Right-wing figures have hailed the episode as a triumph for the "anti-woke" movement. The Euphoria star has not commented herself on the controversial ad.

Trump firing of statistics chief puts US data credibility at risk, experts warn

Donald Trump's firing of the head of the main agency for producing jobs figures risks propelling the US into the same category as countries notorious for 'cooking the books' such as Argentina and Greece, experts have warned. Donald Trump fired Erika McEntarfer, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) commissioner last Friday, after accusing her agency of 'faking' the latest employment figures for 'political purposes,' which showed the US economy adding a lower-than-expected 73,000 jobs in July. The BLS, the US government official source for labor statistics since 1884, also revised down the estimates of new positions created in May and June by a combined 258,000. Trump provided no evidence for his accusations against McEntarfer, which he reinforced in social media posts on Monday, calling the bureau's latest reports 'rigged' and concocted. But his decision jeopardizes the US's tradition of impartial and reliable statistic collection on which the country's economic stability and international reputation depends, specialists have told the Guardian. Erica Groshen, McEnterfer's predecessor as BLS commissioner during Barack Obama's presidency, warned earlier this year that an impending civil-servant rule change that presaged last Friday's sacking could usher in a 'politicization' of government statistical bodies – whereby experts are pressured to produce massaged numbers that fitted an incumbent president's agenda. She raised the specter of Greece and Argentina, where official statistics became discredited as a result of government-instigated misrepresenting of figures. The International Monetary Fund stopped accepting the Argentinian government's inflation figures in 2013 after officials were found to have deliberately understated the rate for the previous six years. After threatening Argentina – historically one of the IMF's biggest borrowers – with expulsion, the organization did not extend another loan to it until 2018. In the case of Greece, government statisticians were accused of having made inflation and soaring budget deficits 'disappear' in the 1990s as the country sought respectable-looking numbers that would enable to qualify for the single European currency, the euro. Greece subsequently joined the currency, but at an exorbitant long-term price. The 2008 global financial crash plunged its economy into a deep recession, and the government was forced to accept multi-billion dollar bailouts from the IMF and European Union – at the cost of painful cuts to social services. Andreas Georgiou, who became head of Greece's main statistics agency during the crisis, even faced prosecution after he discovered that authorities had been dramatically understating budget deficits for years. Both countries experienced severe political backlashes. In Argentina, after two further IMF loans failed to stabiliize its economy, Javier Milei, a populist economist and ally of Trump, was elected in 2023 promising to take a chainsaw to the governing bureaucracy and many public services. In Greece, a succession of left and rightwing governments have taken office amid a rise in support for radical and populist parties, giving rise to concerns for the health of the country's democracy. Talking to the Guardian, Groshen warned of comparable scenarios following a rule change rolled by the White House's office of personnel management in April. 'Bureau of Labor Statistics leaders could be fired for releasing or planning to release jobs or inflation statistics unfavorable to the president's policy agenda,' she wrote in a briefing paper. The revision altered the category of about 50,000 permanent civil servants to 'policy/career' status, making their removal easier. Originally tabled in April to allow 30 days for comments, it gave agencies the right 'to expeditiously remove career employees in policy-influencing positions for poor performance or misconduct, such as corruption or for injecting partisanship into the performance of their official duties'. The precise roles of officials affected were not defined, but Groshen pointed out that, if implemented, the president would determine who would be reclassified. The change stemmed from an executive order Trump issued on his first day back in the White House on 20 January. It stated that the power of 'policy-influencing' civil servants is 'delegated by the president, and they must be accountable to the president'. Groshen, now a specialist in government statistics at Cornell University, said the changes in civil servant status would make it easier for the government to tamper with numbers it disliked. 'There are a number of changes to the civil service that makes it much easier for the administration to interfere with the activities of statistical agencies and that worries me,' she said. Under increased threat of removal, civil servants in federal statistics bodies 'might also face pressure to change methodologies or reveal pre-release information', she wrote. 'By making it easier to remove employees if a president determines that they are interfering with his or her policies, it increases the potential for passivity or political loyalty to be prioritized over expertise and experience.'
