Alabama Lands Major Transfer Portal Addition on Wednesday
When the 2025-26 college basketball season begins, one of the teams to keep an eye on is the Alabama Crimson Tide. Nate Oats and his squad have been flirting with cutting down the nets for the ultimate prize of winning an NCAA Tournament title.
The last two seasons saw the Crimson Tide fall short, first in the Final Four, and then last season in the Elite Eight. After winning 84 games over the past three seasons, Oats and his staff remain determined to assemble the best roster in college basketball.

Oats got great news out of the NCAA transfer portal news on Wednesday as he picked up his fourth transfer of the spring.
Brett Greenberg of 247 Sports announced the latest addition to the Crimson Tide, Keitenn Bristow.
Bristow, who comes to Tuscaloosa from Tarleton State, was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year after averaging 11.3 points per game across 23 appearances.
The 6-foot-8 forward led all freshmen with 10.1 points per game during conference action. Before going to Tarleton State, he played high school basketball in Holliday, Texas.

Bristow joins three other spring transfer additions: Noah Williamson (Bucknell), Taylor Bol Bowen (Florida State) and Jalil Bethea (Miami). Each brings unique experience and production to Alabama's growing roster.

Williamson is a center out of Bucknell, and he was the first portal pickup for Oats and staff. He played three seasons with the Bison and appeared in 81 games. In his final season with Bucknell, he scored 17.6 points per game.
Bol Bowen comes to Alabama from Florida State. He played 24.9 minutes per game for the Seminoles last season. During that time, he scored 8.0 points per game and picked up 5.2 rebounds per game.
Bethea comes from the University of Miami. With the Hurricanes, he made 16 starts over 31 games during the 2024-25 season and scored 7.1 points per game.
Oats is ready to start his seventh season at Alabama. The Crimson Tide are 145-63 in his tenure and have five straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

One specific area Alabama's defense must address to be a contender in 2025, expert says The start of the 2025 college football season is 78 days away, and 85 days remain until the Alabama Crimson Tide open the season against the Florida State Seminoles in Tallahassee. While SEC commissioner Greg Sankey and others are still trying to re-legislate Alabama's absence from last year's College Football Playoff, only 12 Saturdays remain until Alabama-FSU. Both teams are looking for bounce-back years in 2025. The Crimson Tide want to improve on a 9-3 regular season in Kalen DeBoer's first year, which included a blowout loss to Oklahoma in Week 13 that ultimately kept Alabama from reaching the first-ever 12-team playoff field. Florida State is in need of a hard reset. Mike Norvello's Seminoles followed up their 12-0 regular season and ACC championship from 2023 with a woeful 2-10 record last year that featured only one win vs. a Power Four school. One potential concern for Alabama heading into 2025? CBS Sports and 247Sports analyst Brad Crawford believes it's on defense -- more specifically, the need for Kane Wommack's unit to establish a pass rush. Per Crawford: "Make no mistake -- this should be a stout defense for the Crimson Tide, especially considering cornerbacks tandem Zabien Brown and Domani Jackson are being discussed as one of the best in the conference. But if there's one area of concern, it's the ability to produce havoc numbers on the interior and edge since Alabama's inexperienced beyond James Smith and nose tackle Tim Keenan III. The Crimson Tide need a difference-making campaign out of LT Overton, who has best-in-the-conference type of potential." Overton was recently named to the 2025 Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List, along with linebacker Deontae Lawson. Lawson's 76 tackles were second on the team last year behind linebacker Jihaad Campbell, who departed for the NFL after a terrific junior season. Alabama's pass rush generated 25 sacks for 172 sacks yards. That ranked only 69th in FBS and was 14th out of the 16 SEC schools. Year 2 of the DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa will coincide with Alabama's first ever visit to Doak Campbell Stadium on Aug. 30. The Crimson Tide and Seminoles will kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Alabama is No. 9 in Crawford's post-spring top 25 rankings. ESPN and USA TODAY Sports also have the Crimson Tide at No. 9 in their respective post-spring rankings.

USC baseball ace Caden Aoki granted extra year of eligibility, enters transfer portal On Monday, USC baseball's season came to an end in the NCAA Tournament. After making their first postseason appearance in 10 years, the Trojans fell to Oregon State in the final of the Corvallis Regional. On Wednesday, the Trojans got more tough news when it was reported that their top pitcher, Caden Aoki, will be entering the transfer portal. Aoki was a senior this past season, but was granted an additional season of eligibility by the NCAA. However, it now appears as though he will spend that season elsewhere. After spending his freshman year at Notre Dame in 2022, Aoki transferred to USC prior to the 2023 season. He emerged as the Trojans' top starting pitcher over the better part of the past three seasons. In 2025, he went 6-4 with a 3.99 ERA. However, it was the NCAA Tournament where Aoki forever etched himself into Trojans lore. In USC's tournament opener against TCU, Aoki allowed just one run over eight innings, throwing 114 pitches. For his performance, he was named to the all-Corvallis Regional team. While the Trojans were likely expecting to lose Aoki anyway, seeing him hit the transfer portal would be a tough loss. Given that USC lacked pitching depth behind Aoki in 2025, it will be critical that head coach Andy Stankiewicz address the position this offseason.

Chase Burns projected to start at Knoxville
Chase Burns projected to start at Knoxville Knoxville (25-28) will continue its home series Friday against Chattanooga (26-24) at Covenant Health Park. The Lookouts lead the series, 2-1, against the Smokies. Former Vol Chase Burns (5-1) is projected to start for Chattanooga on Friday. Nick Dean (1-0) is also listed as Knoxville's projected starter for Game 4 of the Double-A Southern League series. First pitch between the Smokies and Lookouts is slated for 7 p.m. EDT on Friday. Burns played for the Vols from 2022-23 before transferring to Wake Forest in 2024. He was selected No. 2 overall in the first round of the 2024 MLB draft by Cincinnati. Burns (13-5) appeared in 35 games, including 22 starts, at Tennessee. He recorded a 3.54 ERA, 217 strikeouts and two saves in 152.1 innings. Tennessee (57-9) won the SEC regular season and tournament championships in 2022. The Vols were a No. 1 overall seed in the 2022 NCAA Tournament and were eliminated in super regional play by Notre Dame. Tennessee advanced to the College World Series in 2023.
