Newcastle 'looked a really good side'
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy was impressed by Newcastle's performance in their 1-1 draw against Brighton, despite a lack of clinical finishing. The Magpis needed a late penalty from Alexander Isak to rescue a point at Amex Stadium but Murphy says that was the least they deserved."Eddie Howe said in one of his post match interviews that their problem was they just weren't clinical enough, which is right, but actually it was an accomplished performance," he told Match of the Day 2. "They were better than Brighton."They looked a really good side. The only thing that was lacking, which is unusual with the quality forwards they've got, was that bit of calmness and decision making in the final third. Other than that, Howe should be really pleased with the level of performance."They controlled the game for long periods, and had a lot of joy down the left side. It's just about finding the right option."Ex-Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney added: "I think Newcastle are a really good team and a good watch as well. They dominated the game. They were unfortunate to go a goal behind, but what I liked about them was that they kept pushing. "They kept finding themselves in the right areas and doing the right things - it was just their little details. They have to get those right and then they win games comfortably."Catch up on Match of the Day 2 here

Brentford next manager odds: New favourites revealed as Tottenham close in on Thomas Frank
JUSTIN COCHRANE is favourite for the Brentford job. That's according to the latest odds from talkSPORT BET, who've installed Cochrane at 4/7 to replace Thomas Frank at the Gtech Community Stadium. Frank, who took over at Brentford in 2018, looks increasingly likely to join Tottenham following their decision to sack Ange Postecoglou. The Dane, 51, guided Brentford into the Premier League, winning the Championship play-off final at Wembley in 2021. But reports suggest his seven-year stay is close to ending with Spurs set to make a formal approach in the coming days. Brentford would be entitled to compensation for Frank, with sources suggesting it will cost upwards of £10million to get him before his contract expires in 2027. With those inside Tottenham reportedly "positive" that a deal can be struck - Brentford will have to begin the task of searching for his replacement? But who are the leading candidates? talkSPORT BET have Cochrane as the early frontrunner at 4/7. Cochrane, 43, is currently an assistant coach at Brentford and was recently appointed to a dual role with England's senior men's team under Thomas Tuchel. A former player who retired in 2013, he began his coaching career at Tottenham, working with young talents like Noni Madueke and Kyle Walker-Peters. He later joined the FA, progressing from England U16s to U17s head coach. In 2021, he became Manchester United's head of player development, playing a key role in their FA Youth Cup win featuring future stars Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo. Cochrane joined Brentford in 2022. Kieran McKenna is next in the betting markets at 7/2, with a big jump to third-favourite Danny Rohl at 8/1. Michael Carrick is priced at 12/1 followed by several high-profile bosses including the likes of Steven Gerrard, Sean Dyche, Edin Terzic, Marco Rose and Gary O'Neil. ‘He's going to call it a day' – Ex-Red Bull mechanic claims Max Verstappen will quit F1 THIS YEAR
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MAX VERSTAPPEN has been sensationally tipped to QUIT Red Bull at the end of the season by a former team mechanic. The Dutchman has won four drivers' titles in a row and is hunting for a fifth this year - which would see him match a feat only achieved by Michael Schumacher in Formula One history. Verstappen has continued winning races despite the issues and even the power struggle which hit the team last year. He has been linked with an exit from the Racing Bulls, with a team transfer to the likes of Mercedes or Aston Martin. But ex-Red Bull mechanic Calum Nicholas believes Verstappen - who became a dad for the first time last month - could QUIT F1 entirely, if he wins a fifth World Drivers Championship. He gave his answer before revealing what he thought lay ahead for the 27-year-old. Nicolas said: "Five. I think Max is going to win the Drivers' this year, and then I think he's going to call it a day." Despite his answer, the mechanic insisted he didn't "know anything" extra about Verstappen's career plans. "Not in terms of just his technical skill and his talent, but I've watched Max grow into this guy that can do everything. Lewis Hamilton hit with grid penalty at Monaco Grand Prix after blunder saw him forced to apologise to Verstappen "He does everything well now." Verstappen's last race win this season came at the Imola Grand Prix on May 18. He finished fourth at the Monaco Grand Prix a week later before inexplicably ramming his car into George Russell at the Spanish Grand Prix. That earned him a 10-second penalty - demoting him from P5 to P10 - and three penalty points on his licence to put him on the brink of a race ban. Verstappen has 11 out of 12 points needed to earn a race ban across the 12-month rolling system for the penalty points. He will need to be on his best behaviour at the Canadian and Austrian Grand Prix to avoid a ban in the following race before he sees two penalty points expire on June 30. SunSport looked at five potential replacements for Verstappen if he is banned from competing for one weekend. Names include impressive F1 rookie Isack Hadjar, Red Bull flop Liam Lawson and F2 prodigy Arvid Lindblad, who recently raced against Leeds United stars on the Elland Road pitch.
