Devotees throng Govindaraja Swamy temple for Rathotsavam
Hundreds of devotees on Monday witnessed 'Rathotsavam', the chariot festival, on the eighth day of the annual Brahmotsavam at the Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati.
The 'Rathotsavam' started at 6.15 am at the temple premises, passed through Karnala Street, Beri Street, and Gandhi Road, and returned to the temple's ratha mandapam. A large number of devotees pulled the chariot chanting the name of Lord Govinda.
According to the priests, human body is like a chariot, soul is the owner, wisdom is the driver, mind is the reins, senses are the horses, and the rest everything is compared to the streets. In this way, they explained the philosophy in the chariot festival by saying that the physical body is different from the subtle body, as well as the soul.
From 10.00 am to 12 noon, Snapana Tirumanjanam ceremony was held for the utsav idols of Sridevi, Bhudevi, Sri Govindaraja Swamy and Nammalwar with milk, curd, honey, sandalwood, and various fruit juices.
Pedda Jeeyar Swamy, Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, officers from various departments of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), and a large number of devotees participated in the Rathotsavam.
