Reinier's contract runs until June 2026, with talks between the club and player's side expected to take place this month to resolve his future. He is not expected to be counted on by Castilla head coach Alvaro Arbeloa this season. Arbeloa took up the role in May after the departure of Raul, who had wanted to keep Reinier ahead of his loan move to Granada last season.
Reinier played in the academies of Vasco de Gama, Botafogo and Fluminense before joining Flamengo in 2014, making his senior debut with the club as a 17-year-old in 2019.
He was subject to interest from Manchester City and other English clubs, as well as Atletico Madrid, though Madrid won the race for his signature in January 2020, paying his €30m release clause. 80 per cent of the fee went to Flamengo, 10 per cent to the player's family and the remaining 10 per cent went to the player's agent.
Reinier signed a six-year contract in the Spanish capital and made three appearances for Castilla, scoring twice. He joined Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan deal in August 2020, with the German club paying a €5m loan fee. He appeared 39 times for Dortmund, scoring once and providing one assist.
Loan spells at La Liga side Girona in the 2022-23 season and at Italian team Frosinone in 2023-24 followed, before Granada in Spanish second tier in August last year, where he featured in 25 games and provided four assists.
Reinier was capped by Brazil at under-17 level and represented the nation at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, winning a gold medal.
