The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Coimbatore branch office organised a 'Manak Manthan' programme on Wednesday on the draft of Indian Standard FAD 1 (28325) WC for neem-based pesticide. Over 176 stakeholders participated and gave their suggestions. G. Bhavani, branch head, highlighted the critical role of neem-based formulations in organic farming due to their natural origin, low toxicity, and effectiveness as broad-spectrum pest control agents.
In another event, the BIS Coimbatore branch office conducted a two-day capsule course in Coimbatore on Quality Control Order for viscose staple spun yarn industry (IS 3566:2023). As many as 20 quality control personnel from different parts of the State took part.

BIS training for TNUHDB engineers gets under way

A two-day capacity building programme, organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Coimbatore Branch, for engineers of the Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) got under way in the city on July 29. This initiative is part of BIS's ongoing efforts to promote the implementation of Indian Standards across State government departments, with special focus on urban planning, construction, water systems, and sanitation. The programme aims at strengthening understanding of national standards and encourage their practical application for safe, sustainable, and high-quality infrastructure. Balamurugan, Superintendent Engineer, TNUHDB, inaugurated the programme. It was attended by 28 assistant engineers, assistant executive engineers, and junior engineers, according to a BIS release.

Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organised a two-day capacity building programme for engineers of Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board that concluded in the city on Wednesday. A press release said the initiative was part of BIS's efforts to promote the implementation of Indian Standards across government departments, with a focus on urban planning, water systems, and sanitation. With these being key operational areas of TNUHDB, the programme covered topics, including urban land development and sustainability regulations, geospatial technologies in resource management and piped drinking water. Meenakshi Ganesan, Deputy Director General (Southern Region), BIS, said it would help engineers to integrate standards in project design and implementation.
