‘Know your numbers' to promote women's wellness
Organised by the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecological Societies of India (FOGSI), LUM is a national health endeavour that gathers vital health data such as weight, blood pressure, blood sugar level, and hemoglobin level from women across India. By focusing on these key health indicators, the project aims to foster a proactive health management culture among women.
In connection with 'WAVES 2025,' a KYN camp was inaugurated at Andhra Medical College.
Speaking on the occasion, organising chairperson of the conference Dr. T Radha stressed on how important the KYN programme is for every woman and conveyed her gratitude to the defence forces in these challenging times.
Organising secretary Dr MNV Pallavi spoke about how these numbers are not just statistics but are indicators of women's wellbeing. 'By identifying health issues early, we can prevent complications, promote timely care, and help women lead longer, healthier life,' she stressed.
Vice president, FOGSI Dr Palaniappan spoke about how a woman can take care of her health and how many path breaking initiatives were taken up by the FOGSI to promote women's health.
President of the Navy Welfare and Wellness Association (NWWA) Sandhya Rao Pendharkar, who participated as chief guest, emphasised the need for women to put their health above everything.
Medical students who participated in the event had an opportunity to interact with experts.
Principal of Andhra Medical College Dr KVSM Sandhya Devi talked about health challenges and how they need to be tackled.
Superintendent of KGH Dr P Sivanand, among others, spoke. About 200-250 students were screened at the programme and their vital health data collected.

Privatisation of public healthcare in Andhra Pradesh denounced
VIJAYAWADA: Under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the coalition government's proposed health sector reforms in Andhra Pradesh are facing sharp criticism from public health activists, who warn they will make healthcare unaffordable for the poor. Concerns centre on the reported plan to hand over 10 under-construction medical colleges to private entities and to establish super-specialty hospitals in every MLA constituency under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Activists point out that in other states, PPP-run facilities have led to soaring medical costs, restricting access for disadvantaged patients. GOs 107 and 108 sparked outrage by enabling costly self-finance seats in medical colleges, prompting Praja Arogya Vedika's (PAV) statewide drive with seminars, and drives across districts. Speaking to TNIE, PAV State President MV Ramanaiah said, 'As part of the campaign, a National Health Seminar titled 'Privatisation of the Healthcare Sector—Impacts and Solutions' will be held on August 24 at MB Vignana Kendram Auditorium, Vijayawada.'

Worlds Oldest Baby? Boy Born To Ohio Couple From Embryo Frozen Over 30 Years Ago
In a remarkable and heartwarming event, a baby boy was born from an embryo that was frozen over 30 years ago. The child was born to Lindsey and Tim Pierce, a couple from Ohio, United States, on Saturday. The embryo, preserved since the early 1990s, marks an impressive milestone for reproductive medicine. According to a BBC report, this is believed to be the longest an embryo has been frozen before leading to a successful live birth. The rare case highlights the remarkable achievement and advancement in fertility science. Adoption Of 30-Year-Old Embryo Lindsey and Tim Pierce had been trying to have a child for seven years before deciding to adopt a frozen embryo. The BBC further reported, the embryo was created in 1994 through IVF by Linda Archerd (62). She and her then-husband had created four embryos, one of which led to the birth of their daughter, now 30 years old. The remaining three embryos were frozen and stored for decades, one of which has now resulted in the birth of Lindsey and Tim's baby boy. Linda separated from her husband; however, she wanted to be involved with the baby that would be born from her embryos. Thus, she kept the embryos in storage until she found a Christian embryo adoption agency. According to the BBC, Linda told MIT Technology Review that she wanted her embryos to be adopted by a Caucasian married and Christian couple from the US. The baby boy has been named Thaddeus Daniel Pierce. The birth of Thaddeus could bring hope to countless families seeking alternative paths to parenthood. Significance of IVF Treatment The IVF treatment has, for a long time, made the dreams of many people of becoming parents come true. Speaking of the treatment's procedure, according to an ANI report, the In-vitro fertilization means that eggs are taken from the ovaries and fertilized with sperm outside of the body in an IVF centre lab. Meanwhile, as per IANS, scientists in the UK used a three-person IVF technique to bring to life eight children and spared them from genetic mitochondrial disease. The infants, four girls and four boys, including one set of identical twins, were born using DNA from three people.
