Gold Price Prediction: How to trade ahead of Fed chief Jerome Powell speech
After an overall decline in the last week,
Gold August futures
contracts at MCX opened higher by Rs 243 or 0.25% at Rs 96,118/10 g after uncertainties around US President Donald Trump's tariffs linger.
Supported by safe-haven buying, silver July futures contracts also opened slightly higher by Rs 164 or 0.17% at Rs 97,179/kg.
On Friday, gold and silver settled on a weaker note in the domestic and international markets. Gold August futures contract settled at Rs 95,875 per 10 grams with a loss of 0.61%, and silver July futures contract settled at Rs 7,015 per kilogram with a loss of 0.83%.
Gold and silver showed very high price volatility and plunged last week amid a rebound in the
dollar index
and the U.S. President Trump's statements on China, trade tariffs and the Russia-Ukraine war. The dollar index rebounded from 1-month lows last week and pushed gold and silver prices lower.
Today, the US Dollar Index, DXY, was hovering near the 99.31 mark, falling 0.02 or 0.02%.

U.S. President Trump said in his tweet that China is violating trade agreements and also issued a threat to the Russian President for their aggression against Ukraine. The Federal court order for blocking Trump's tariff plan was also stayed by a 9-judge bench, which also pressured precious metal prices.
'Investors and traders are also looking cautious amid global uncertainties and ahead of the U.S. Fed Chairman's speech on Monday,' said Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvifinmart Commodity Research.
'We expect gold and silver prices to remain volatile this week amid volatility in the dollar index, geo-political tensions and ahead of the U.S. Fed Chairman's speech; gold prices could hold its support level of $3,180 per troy ounce and silver prices could also hold $31.80 per troy ounce levels on a weekly closing basis this week,' he added.

Manoj Kumar Jain suggested the following ranges for gold and silver on MCX:
Gold has support at Rs 95,440-95,100 and resistance at Rs 96,250-96,660
Silver has support at Rs 96,350-95,500 and resistance at Rs 97,800-98,450
Jain cautioned that he expects very high price volatility in gold and silver in today's session ahead of the Fed Chairman's speech.

The appointment of Rev. Dr. Johnnie Moore, a former evangelical adviser to the White House during Trump's first term in office, came as health officials said at least 27 people died and more than 150 were injured trying to reach a GHF aid site. "GHF is demonstrating that it is possible to move vast quantities of food to people who need it most — safely, efficiently, and effectively," Moore said in the foundation statement. "GHF believes that serving the people of Gaza with dignity and compassion must be the top priority." The GHF began operations one week ago under a distribution model criticized by the United Nations as the militarization of aid. The GHF says so far it has given out seven million meals from so-called secure distribution sites. It uses private U.S. security and logistics companies to get aid into Gaza. The U.N. and aid groups have refused to work with the GHF because they say it is not a neutral operation. U.N. aid chief Tom Fletcher has said it "makes aid conditional on political and military aims" and uses starvation as "a bargaining chip." The appointment of Moore could fuel U.N. concerns, given his support for the controversial proposal Trump floated in February for the U.S. to take over Gaza and develop it economically. After Trump proposed the idea, Moore posted video of Trump's remarks on X and wrote: "The USA will take full responsibility for future of Gaza, giving everyone hope & a future." 'BAD GUYS' The U.N. did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the appointment of Moore, who has accused the U.N. of ignoring "bad guys" stealing aid in Gaza. The U.N. has long-blamed Israel and lawlessness in the enclave for impediments getting aid into Gaza and distributing throughout the war zone. President of Prayagraj Navik Sangh, Pappu Nishad, told TOI, "The ongoing summer season has hit the turnout as there is limited attendance of devotees and pilgrims flocking to Sangam and hiring boats to take holy dips and perform rituals. In the current scenario, a limited section of devotees travelling to Sangam are from Varanasi or Ayodhya. Those arriving in Varanasi or Ayodhya to seek blessings of Lord Shiva and Lord Ram often plan their tours to Sangam in Prayagraj to take holy dips and perform rituals. " However, the strength of such devotees is very limited and directly impacting the income of boatmen. In the current scenario, a boatman is charging Rs 50 for a devotee to ferry a pilgrim from Quila Ghat to Sangam, and the rate from other ghats to Sangam is more or less. Shantanu, a boatman, told TOI, "Around 75% of all around 1,500 boatmen in and around Prayagraj earn their livelihoods by catering to the pilgrims at the limited attendance of visitors who arrive at Sangam to take holy dips, boatmen are fighting to earn big earnings. The strength of devotees has declined since the temperature crossed 42 degrees Celsius." Rakesh, another boatman, asserted, "We are hardly able to manage better earnings by catering to the few visitors who arrive either to take holy dips or to immerse the mortal remains." A section of boatmen who were earlier engaged in ferrying pilgrims during the season are planning to do some other work to earn a livelihood.

Nashik civic body starts repairing city roads, fills over 6,000 potholes in a week
Nashik: With the rain taking a break, the Nashik Municipal Corporation's (NMC) public works department has commenced extensive road repair operations across the city. The civic administration announced on Tuesday that it had successfully filled 6,226 potholes across the six divisions within the last week alone. These crucial road repair efforts began ahead of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis's two-day visit to Nashik city on Sunday and Monday. During his visit, the chief minister travelled through various city roads while attending multiple programmes. The condition of roads in Nashik had significantly worsened due to continuous heavy rainfall last month, posing considerable risks to motorists. Furthermore, roads excavated by Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL) for laying piped natural gas pipelines added to the deterioration. While the NMC had initially planned to begin repair works from May 15, persistent showers prevented these efforts. Now, with the rainfall having ceased, the civic body has been able to fully embark on its road repair agenda. An NMC official, while talking to TOI, said they conducted a fresh survey of the city roads and found around 9,000 potholes in various parts of the city.
