Fashion Network15-05-2025

The sports company Puma has appointed Dominique Gathier as vice president of its Teamsport business unit, effective May 15. He succeeds Matthias Bäumer, who assumed the position of chief commercial officer earlier this year, and will report directly to chief product officer Maria Valdes.
The 45-year-old executive, who holds both French and German citizenship, has been with the Herzogenaurach-based company for 19 years.
Over nearly two decades, Gathier has held several key roles in marketing and product development. Most recently, he served as senior director of product line management for Teamsport footwear and equipment. In this role, he oversaw the development of Puma's top-performing football boot models, including the Future, Ultra and King lines. He earned a degree in management from Kedge Business School in Bordeaux, France.
'With Dominique, an experienced leader will take over our Teamsport business unit, as he played a key role in developing some of our most successful performance products,' said chief product officer Maria Valdes. 'I'm confident that Dominique will continue to build on Puma's strong momentum in the Teamsport segment and bring exciting new products to market—products that will inspire athletes, whether professional or amateur, as well as teams and fans around the world.'
Gathier will lead the entire product team within the business unit in his new role. 'He will be responsible for ensuring the successful development and execution of product strategies, working closely with Puma's many external partners, including clubs and associations,' the company stated.
Puma's Teamsport unit produces footwear, apparel and accessories for football, as well as other regionally significant sports, such as handball, rugby and cricket.

Paris AirShow opens with 2,400 exhibitors amid Airbus-Boeing rivalry

The Paris AirShow opened on Monday at Le Bourget airfield, with more than 2,400 exhibitors from 48 countries set to display their latest innovations during the week-long showcase. The event is the world's largest and most prestigious showcase for the aerospace and defence industry. The ongoing rivalry between Europe's Airbus and US-made Boeing aircraft manufacturers is set to further intensify at the event as both companies announce significant new orders. Boeing expects global demand for air travel to increase by more than 40% by 2030. However, global tensions, trade tariffs and the Air India crash have cast a shadow over the event. Last week's crash of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner passenger jet minutes after takeoff put the spotlight back on the beleaguered US manufacturer. However, it was not immediately clear why the plane crashed. Meanwhile, France has shut down the four leading Israeli companies' stands at the Paris show for apparently displaying offensive weapons, a decision Israel has condemned. 'The French are hiding behind supposedly political considerations to exclude Israeli offensive weapons from an international exhibition — weapons that compete with French industries,' Israel said in a statement on Monday. Three other Israeli stands, which are not showing weapons, remain open. A French appeals court had ruled Friday against activist groups who sought to block Israeli companies from participating in the show due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in Gaza. Europe's fading Green parties met in Brussels to learn from their electoral setbacks and prepare for a comeback. Speaking about their future, they said they wanted to focus on a "just transition" that responds to citizens' concerns, and to support a green investment plan at the European level. "What we definitely need is to give concrete answers to people's everyday concerns about the cost of living," Vula Tsetsi, co-president of the European Green Party, told Euronews. "We think it is very important not to pit the defence and security budget against the just transition, the cost of living and a more social Europe. But this requires investment and political courage", she added. Meanwhile, at a time when "simplification" is the watchword of the European Commission, Ciarán Cuffe, co-president of the European Green Party, said he is "concerned" about the future of the Green Pact, the EU's roadmap for achieving climate neutrality by 2050. He warned against "throwing the baby out with the bathwater". "If we simplify European legislation, we cannot lose sight of why these laws are there. So, for example, on corporate sustainability due diligence, it's about trying to stop modern sweatshops in Bangladesh and elsewhere," he said. The Greens have suffered several electoral setbacks over the past year. While they were the fourth largest group in the European Parliament during the previous legislature (2019-2024), they lost 18 seats in June, dropping from 71 to 53 MEPs. In the German federal elections in February, the Greens led by Robert Habeck obtained 11.61% of the vote, losing 33 seats in the Bundestag. Meanwhile, the Greens have also seen a decline in Austria. After being part of the country's government with the Austrian People's Party (ÖVP), they received 8.24% of the vote in the 2024 parliamentary elections and lost 10 seats in the National Council. "When you're in government, you have to make compromises. So it's not easy to win over voters," said Tsetsi. Cuffe blamed the defeats on the party's inability to grasp the issue of defence.

France blocks access to ‘offensive' Israeli arms stands at Paris Air Show

France on Monday blocked access to the stands of four Israeli arms manufacturers at the Paris Air Show for displaying "offensive weapons", according to a French government source. A black wall blocked off stands run by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), Rafael, Uvision, Elbit and Aeronautics for showing "offensive weapons", including those used in Gaza, which allegedly violated terms made with Israel, said the source. The stands were those being used by Elbit Systems, Rafael, IAI and Uvision. Three smaller Israeli stands, which didn't have hardware on display, and an Israeli Ministry of Defence stand, remain open. Rafael, Elbit and IAI produce guided bombs and missiles, while Uvision and Aeronautics produce drones. Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the move on Monday as "outrageous" and called for it to be "immediately corrected". "Israeli companies have signed contracts with the organisers... it's like creating an Israeli ghetto," he said on French television channel LCI. The Israeli Ministry of Defence also denounced the decision in a statement, calling it a form of "segregation" against the Israeli companies. "This outrageous and unprecedented decision reeks of policy-driven and commercial considerations," it added. IAI's president and CEO, Boaz Levy, said the black partition walls were reminiscent of "the dark days of when Jews were segmented from European society". Rafael described the French move as "unprecedented, unjustified, and politically motivated". Two US Republican politicians attending the air show also criticised the French move. Talking to reporters outside the blacked-out Israeli defence stalls, US Republican Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders described the decision as "pretty absurd", while Republican Senator Katie Britt criticised it as "short-sighted". The French prime minister's office did not immediately return a request for comment. Some 75 companies related to weapons production were set to participate at the show which opened on Monday, with military jets, helicopters and drones on display. Nine Israeli companies – fewer than in the past – were expected to have displays after a French court rejected a bid by NGOs to ban them over their alleged role in the Gaza conflict. More than 2,400 companies from 48 countries are showing off their hardware at the weeklong event at the Le Bourget airfield on the outskirts of the French capital. The air show's organiser said in a statement that it was in talks to try to help "the various parties find a favourable outcome to the situation".
