Live updates as Reform UK leader Nigel Farage makes major speech in Port Talbot

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage will be in Port Talbot today to give a press conference, laying out his plans for the party in Wales with months to go until a crucial election for his party. The most recent poll for Wales suggests his party is in line to take its first seats in the Senedd at the election in May 2026. Its only representation in Wales at the moment is with councillors, but a YouGov/Barn Cymru poll which asked people their voting intention for the Welsh Parliament in May put Reform UK in second with 25% of the vote. They were only behind Plaid Cymru who were projected to get 30% of the vote and ahead of Labour's 18%. You can read that here. In an opinion piece for WalesOnline, the party leader has given his first glimpses of policies ahead of the election. Mr Farage has said the party would allow coal mining again in Wales and says its long term plan is to "reopen the Port Talbot steelworks". The steelworks, owned by Tata, have not closed but its remaining blast furnaces were closed in 2024, with work now ongoing to build an electric arc furnace which will recycle previously-used steel. Thousands of jobs are being lost as part of the change. The Indian-owned company said the blast furnaces were at the end of their operational lives and too expensive to replace. The Port Talbot steelworks were, the company said, losing £1m a day before the blast furnaces were turned off. Reform UK say it would "use Welsh Development Grants to support real industry. We'll redirect economic funding from consultants and NGOs to actual factory floors, machinery, and industrial jobs in places like Llanelli, Shotton, and Ebbw Vale". Nigel Farage has also said the party would also set up "regional technical colleges" for people to have a "path into proper trade". The party would also, it says, stop any building being used for asylum seeker accommodation, end funding to the Welsh Refugee Council and scrap the Welsh Government's "Nation of Sanctuary". It also vowed to set up an Elon Musk style department to cut costs. "A Reform UK Senedd will also save hundreds of millions each year by cutting bureaucracy, waste and bad management. The establishment of Welsh DOGE will help us uncover where there is woke and wasteful spending and we will make sure those funds are redirected to frontline services," Mr Farage pledges. Inside Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo's huge new family home with renovation woes

Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo delighted fans by announcing they're expecting their first child together. The Made in Chelsea couple, who have been together since 2019, shared a video of their scan and were flooded with well wishes after announcing the happy news. Sophie, 30, and Jamie, 36, are now preparing to move into their first family property in London together after buying their 'forever home' and overseeing extensive renovations on it. The NewlyWeds hosts have been documenting the process with fans and sharing glimpses into the building works on their vlog, The Laings. Sharing the happy news of their purchase with the Times in May 2024, Jamie revealed: 'We've been renting a two-bedroom apartment in Notting Hill for three years. I previously owned an apartment in Chelsea, but I found Chelsea boring. 'We also needed to move out because the flat had a history – Sophie didn't like the fact my ex-girlfriends had lived there.' The FCA does not regulate most Buy to Let mortgages. Your home or property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. The couple bought the huge property last year and have been busy overhauling it, including working with a designer to create their perfect kitchen complete with the latest state-of-the-art appliances. But it turns out the renovation hasn't been as easy as expected, with Jamie listing a number of issues they've encountered along the way. 'Turns out, when you renovate a house, there is always something to do with rotting windows, or there's a leak in the roof, or you've got to remove the shed out of the back or mice chewing through the electrics,' he joked. 'Or our contractor needs more money!' Finding the property wasn't easy either, with Sophie revealing she was 'desperate' to settle down in a quiet area with her husband. The presenter told MailOnline: 'We are desperately looking to move into our family home. 'We are on the hunt… we are looking high and looking low. We can't find anything right now but we are actively looking, which is really exciting. Jamie and I are looking everywhere, we have no set place… it's a tough market out there. 'I want a bit of greenery, I want it to be a bit more residential, we're in a bit of a busy, party area right now and I want to move to where there's greenery around me and it's quiet and people are walking their dogs around me.' She added: 'You do have to think about the future… I am getting excited about it, but nothing has been found yet.' Jamie and Sophie revealed last year that they'll be transforming their new basement into a media room, and their new garden will be fully landscaped to include plenty of roses as well as elderflower and lavender plants. It comes after the duo, who rose to fame on Made in Chelsea, shared a video of their scan on Instagram to reveal their exciting pregnancy news. Speculation about the couple had been at an all-time high as their successful podcast made way for them to step into separate radio presenter positions. In the video, Sophie was seen lying in a hospital bed, smiling at Jamie and overcome with emotion as she said 'oh my god'. On seeing the scan, Jamie gasped 'Are you kidding me?' as the camera panned to Sophie, with her jaw on the floor, staring at the screen and listening to the heartbeat. Jamie and Sophie wed in 2023 after meeting on the E4 reality show, realising their mutual attraction in 2019. Jamie previously explained that they started off as 'best friends' before feelings of attraction began to develop three years into their friendship. He emphasised how much 'respect' they have for each other, despite their playful relationship. The pair were engaged in 2021 and got married in a low-key ceremony at Chelsea Registry Office in April 2023, surrounded by friends and family. More Trending Jamie celebrated with a simple post on Instagram that read 'We got married!! England Wedding done now bring on Spain!! 💍.' They then jetted off to Villa Las Sirenas – in Spain, obviously – a month later to celebrate with a second, more lavish, wedding ceremony. Guests included former co-star Millie Mackintosh, Love Island's Zara McDermott and Spencer Matthews. Got a story?
